Rev. and Mrs. E B Dunbar Scholarship
Growing up as the daughter of a starving artist and a minister who instilled a strong faith in me has profoundly shaped my outlook on life and my aspirations for the future. My childhood was a juxtaposition of creativity and spirituality, where my father's passion for art often clashed with the financial struggles we faced, yet my mother's unwavering faith provided a constant source of strength and guidance.
From a young age, I learned the importance of obedience to a higher calling. My father taught me that sometimes, obedience means letting go of everything when God directs, even if it means facing hardship. This lesson instilled in me a deep respect for faith and a belief that challenges are opportunities for growth and learning.
Education has been my beacon of hope amidst these challenges. It has empowered me to dream beyond our circumstances and equipped me with the knowledge and skills to make a difference. As I pursue my education, I am driven by a strong desire to give back to my community in meaningful ways.
I envision using my education to uplift and empower those around me. Through my studies, I aim to gain expertise in fields that can directly impact my community—whether through education, healthcare, social work, or the arts. By acquiring knowledge and skills, I hope to address the pressing issues that affect marginalized groups, including poverty, access to quality education, and healthcare disparities.
My upbringing has ingrained in me a sense of responsibility towards my community. I am motivated by a desire to create opportunities where there are few, to inspire hope where there is despair, and to advocate for justice where there is inequality. I see education not only as a personal achievement but also as a tool for societal change.
Moreover, my upbringing has taught me the value of resilience and perseverance. It has fueled my determination to overcome obstacles and to be a role model for others facing similar challenges. By embracing my roots and drawing strength from my faith, I am committed to making a lasting impact in my community.
In conclusion, my journey as the daughter of a starving artist and a minister has shaped my educational pursuits and aspirations. I am driven by a deep-seated desire to use my education to give back to my community, to embody the values of faith, obedience, and perseverance instilled in me, and to make a positive difference in the lives of those around me.
B.A.B.Y. L.O.V.E. Scholarship
When thinking about how I embody the B.A.B.Y.L.O.V.E spirit, I tend to think about being obedient within knowing my purpose and why I want to further my education. I not only want to further my education, but I also desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around me. It is not only noble, but it is also admirable to have an awareness of what my purpose is and where it was created. I know that before I was yet created in the womb of my mother, God had already designed, shaped, and molded my purpose for me and me for my purpose. Having been born of African American descent, I believe that I was innately given responsibility as well as an honor to uphold and continue to carry the torches of greatness. My passion for furthering my education is a commitment to myself, my ancestors , to the those that come behind me, and especially others around me to show a sense of compassion that the wickedness of the world does not allow to be seen by others . In the legal field it is all about the people, and that is the reason I have chosen be to a part of this prestigious and honorable realm of assistance and protection for others. To be another person of color, to change history, and not just change history but to navigate the narrative for the negative stereotypes that many people tend to enjoy labeling the black and brown community with is an honor that I would not take lightly.
Growing up in a devout Christian household, faith has always been the cornerstone of my identity. Faith has shaped my worldview; instilling in me values of compassion, justice, and morals . My upbringing has taught me the importance of standing up for what is right and advocating for those who may not have a voice. It is because of the principles of my faith that I have heavily influenced my decision to pursue a career in the legal profession. I see law as a tool for upholding justice and defending the oppressed and defenseless, mirroring the teachings of Christ to love thy neighbor and seek righteousness. My faith guides me in navigating the complexities of the legal system with empathy and a commitment to fairness, reminding me that each case presents an opportunity to make a positive impact and uphold the principles I hold dear. Proverbs 29:18 states “Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
My intent upon joining in unison with other attorneys is embody this verse by making the vision of a lawful society clear, thus decreasing people from perishing without just necessity, and ultimately encouraging atmosphere of peace, fairness, and happiness.
