What motivated me to pursue a higher education was my parents and the thought of one day becoming a citizen. Although, my parents aren’t really involved in my education, they trust me enough that I will do well in my studies. My family risked their lives just to give me and my older sister a better life. From middle school to sophomore year of high school I didn’t take school seriously. Mostly because the thoughts of being undocumented, messed with my mentality, negatively. I would always think, “why am I even studying if I can’t even work”. I realized that by the end of sophomore year how wrong I was. Which is why I am acting now, in my last two years of high school pursuing an education. Also, I like being persistent with my time. I look at my long term goals. For example, becoming a citizen. I think that’s a big motivation of mine. I want to get my education done early so I can still have fun while I’m still young. If I ever become a citizen, I wouldn’t have to worry about getting a degree when I already have it. I want to be ready for anything that has to come. I am also money driven. You might be thinking, “she’s greedy”. You’re half right. I want to get money so I can sustain myself and have some extra money on the side, but I also want to help out my parents. Especially, my dad. I want to repay them. They did everything they’ve can to sustain me and my 4 other siblings. I want to help gain money do buy them gifts. Maybe, they won’t want gifts, but I will help them gain money and maybe even help parents pay for my younger siblings education, if they ever decide to go to college or trade.
