Bob Deats Memorial Scholarship for Education
Since I was a little child it has always been my dream to be a teacher, throughout my studies, I have had teachers passionate about teaching and showing interest in their students, Mrs.Schmitz my ESL (English Second Language) teacher is a clear example of this. Teachers transmit academic knowledge, mentors, role models, and emotional support to their students. When I arrived in this country, it was very difficult to adapt to a new culture, and a new way of life and even to learn the language. However, meeting her was a blessing, Mrs. Schmitz was always motivating me in those difficult years. A very special memory is when she was willing to go over my essays with me after school for both my graduation requirements and college admission. Moreover, she always gave me words of encouragement and motivation when I thought I couldn't go on. For all the above reasons, I am pursuing a major in Linguistics with minors in Social Work and Spanish for several reasons. First of all, by the example of my beloved teacher, I would like to demonstrate my passion for teaching and helping others. I know that education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and empower people to achieve their goals and dreams. As I was accepted to my desired college called Montclair State University, I could see in Mrs. Schmitz's face the excitement and happiness she had remembering all that we did together to accomplish this goal. On the other hand, by volunteering to teach English to young people at school I was able to know that I desire to obtain my ESL certificate, as I discovered that through teaching one can have a positive impact on the lives of young people and contribute to the development of society. As a teacher, I can influence the way my students view the world, inspire them to pursue their passions and foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment. Being a linguistics teacher and obtaining my English as a Second Language (ESL) certificate, I would like to facilitate further language learning for future generations who have migrated from their countries and share my experience in learning English with them to motivate them to never give up. Mrs. Schmitz not only shared her deep knowledge and passion for English but also believed in the potential of each of her students and motivated them to achieve their goals. In addition, I now have the opportunity to be on the Community Relations Committee of the Hackensack Board of Education trying together with other young people to make positive changes so that these future generations can have a better education. In conclusion, I am interested in pursuing a career in teaching because I believe in the transformative power of education and the positive impact that teachers have on the lives of their students and society. I want to be that source of inspiration and support for my students, just as or more than my ESL teacher was because, teaching is a noble and rewarding profession, full of challenges but also of great satisfaction that is why I have no doubts in pursuing this career.

Destiny can change our lives in a moment Change can be hard, but it can make our lives better. By facing it, we can become better people. I am a first-generation non-US citizen student who has the opportunity to study in the United States. It has not been easy, but I have goals and try to accomplish them. Five years ago, I made the hardest decision in my life, together with my family decided to come from Ecuador to this country for a better future and I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me . My experiences in high school and my first year at the university have further motivated me to pursue my desired degree in education. Nevertheless, there are always obstacles that we must overcome, including the cost of studying at a university. For this reason, I am applying for this scholarship because it will help me pay for the next semesters of my degree. As an immigrant student, I unfortunately do not qualify for certain financial aid, so through scholarships and a part-time job I try to pay for it. On the other hand, this scholarship provides an opportunity to pursue my academic and professional aspirations, to become an exemplary teacher. Teaching offers the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of young people and contribute to the development of society. As a teacher, I will influence the way my students view the world, inspire them to pursue their passions, and foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment. I would like to share my experience with them to motivate them to never give up. I want to convey to them that there will always be opportunities in life, as long as they believe in themselves. Although the potential financial and emotional challenges that may arise are acknowledged, it is understood that every effort is rewarded in some way. Book Lovers Scholarship
Books are a refuge, a paradise in the midst of chaos. As I read different types of books, there is one that stands out from this list, since I started reading it, I always repeat it and read it again to interpret it in a different way. This book is called The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. This book is special for me because I can find peace, happiness and God's love for me while reading it. The Book of Mormon is a religious book and is the foundation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since, I was a child I have had the opportunity to study it with my parents and it's amazing to look through it, to understand the lives of ancient prophets and ancestors in America. Also, the main reason I wish everyone would read this book is because of its advice, one as a reader can take refuge and we even relate to the different trials these people had and how with the Lord's help they were able to overcome them. A favorite part that I like very much is found in Mosiah chapter 2, verse 41: “And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.” I feel that this verse helps us to better understand our purpose here on earth and how we can find happiness. In conclusion, in my personal experience this book has become essential in my life and I would like for other people that it is the same. Each verse contains the answer to questions I have, this book demonstrates God's love for his children, since we can find guidance to make decisions in daily life. Life is complicated but thanks to this book it becomes easier, that is why I love to read it and I have a strong testimony about The Book of Mormon and I know that it contains words from God and that makes it a very special book.

Embracing change is essential for personal growth and professional advancement. By setting goals and objectives, we can become better versions of ourselves. However, many people do not prioritize this aspect of life, believing that simply wishing for things will lead to success. Being an immigrant student is a unique and challenging experience. Every effort has its reward, which is why I try to do my best in everything I do to achieve my academic and professional goals. Four years ago, my parents made the decision to from Ecuador to the United States, with the intention of providing my brother and me with enhanced opportunities. Over time, it has proven challenging to adjust to the climate, culture, and especially the language. As an immigrant student, access to higher education became a challenge. I will always be grateful for the preparation I received in high school that enabled me to succeed in college. With the assistance of highly skilled instructors, I was able to overcome mental barriers such as self-doubt. I lack the financial resources to pursue my aspirations. I am grateful to them for enabling me to pursue my studies at a university, with the goal of one day becoming an exemplary teacher and passionate about teaching. To achieve goals, it is essential to have a clear vision and to dream big. My primary professional objective is to become a ESL teacher. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to teach English to ESL students, which inspired and even motivated me to pursue a career in linguistics. Additionally, I intend to leverage the ESL certificate to facilitate further language learning and share my experience as an immigrant student with my students to motivate them to persevere. Furthermore, I will reassure them that they will be able to overcome any challenges they face and pursue their academic dreams. In conclusion, my experiences as an immigrant student and future linguistics teacher have shaped my goals and motivations. By overcoming obstacles and dedicating myself to my passion for teaching, I have gained valuable skills and a unique perspective that will serve me well in my future career. As a teacher, I will have the opportunity to influence the way my future students view the world. I am aware that achieving these goals will not be straightforward, but with dedication, effort, and determination, it will be possible to reach the end of the road.

Teachers play a foundational role in the development of students, exerting a positive influence on their lives. From an early age, I have aspired to become a teacher. Throughout my academic career, I have had the privilege of studying under educators who are deeply passionate about their profession and genuinely interested in their students. In my personal experience, Mrs. Schmitz, my ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, is a clear example of this phenomenon. In addition to the transmission of academic knowledge, teachers serve as mentors, role models, and emotional support for their students. Upon my arrival in this country, I found it challenging to adjust to a new cultural environment, a different way of life, and even to learn the language. Nevertheless, the opportunity to meet her proved to be a fortuitous occurrence. Mrs. Schmitz consistently motivated during the challenging period of my academic career. A particularly memorable experience was when she was willing to review my essays after school, both for the graduation requirement and for college admission. Conversely, she consistently offered words of encouragement and motivation when I felt overwhelmed or incapable of continuing. A passion for transmitting knowledge and skills, or a commitment to education as a tool for social transformation. I am motivated to pursue this academic career for several reasons. First and foremost, I wish to demonstrate my passion and share my knowledge with others, following the example of my esteemed teacher. I believe that education is a powerful instrument that can transform lives and equip individuals with the tools to achieve their goals and aspirations. Upon acceptance to Montclair State University, I observed the elation and gratitude on the face of Ms. Schmitz. Similarly, as a future educator, I would be delighted to play a role in this process of transformation and assist my students in identifying their potential and achieving success in their lives. In addition, teaching offers the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of young people and contribute to the development of society as a whole. As a teacher, I can influence the way my students view the world, inspire them to pursue their passions and foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment. As a linguistics teacher and holder of an English as a Second Language (ESL) certificate, I am motivated to facilitate further language learning for future generations who have migrated from their countries. I would like to share my experience in learning English with them to motivate them to never give up. Mrs. Schmitz not only imparted her profound knowledge and enthusiasm for the English language but also fostered a belief in the potential of each of her students and encouraged them to pursue their aspirations. In conclusion, I am interested in pursuing a career in teaching because I believe that education has the potential to transform lives and that teachers can play a pivotal role in this process. I aspire to serve as a source of inspiration and support for my students, just as my ESL teacher did. I believe that teaching is a noble and rewarding profession, one that presents both challenges and satisfactions. For these reasons, I am confident in my decision to pursue this career.

Change is not always straightforward, but it can enhance our lives. By confronting these challenges, we can become more effective versions of ourselves. My experience as an immigrant and as a first-generation student who has the opportunity to study in the United States has not been straightforward. However, I have objectives and goals that I endeavor to achieve throughout my life. Five years ago, my parents and I decided to immigrate to this country to secure a better future and to have access to a superior education. Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to engage in a multitude of experiences that have shaped my identity and outlook on life. These experiences include community service and participation in ceremonies. My experiences at the university have reinforced my desire to obtain my long-held goal of becoming a teacher. Having completed my first year of studies, I am motivated to persevere in this endeavor. Nevertheless, one will inevitably encounter obstacles in the pursuit of higher education. One such obstacle is the financial burden of attending university. For this reason, I am applying for this scholarship because it will assist me in covering the costs of the next few semesters of my degree. As an undocumented and immigrant student, I am unfortunately ineligible for certain forms of financial aid, necessitating that I pursue employment to defray the costs of my education. Furthermore, the receipt of this scholarship would allow me to concentrate more fully on my studies, while also allowing me to continue my voluntary work at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where I assist young women in developing their talents and organizing activities. On the contrary, this scholarship affords me the chance to pursue my aspirations and, in the future, to become an exemplary teacher. Teaching offers the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of young people and contribute to the development of society as a whole. As a teacher, I will be able to influence the way my students view the world, inspire them to pursue their passions and foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment. By becoming a linguistics teacher and obtaining my English as a Second Language (ESL) certificate, I aspire to facilitate further language learning for future generations who have migrated from their countries. I aim to share my experience with these individuals to motivate them to persevere and never give up. I hope to instill in them the belief that there will always be opportunities in life, provided they dare to believe in themselves. Despite the potential financial and emotional challenges that may arise, I am aware that every effort is rewarded in some way. This is why I consistently strive to achieve my academic and professional objectives to the best of my abilities. I aspire to become an exemplary educator and to serve as a model of resilience for my future students. This scholarship would greatly facilitate the achievement of this goal.

Joseph F. Smith said: "A mother's love is closer to God's love than any other kind of love. This quote reflects how my mother has impacted my life, and because of the love she gives me every day, I have more strength and motivation to achieve my goals.  Since I was a little girl, she has taught me principles that are essential for me today when I face challenges and problems. The best teaching she can give me is her example as a courageous, loving, respectful, persevering woman who is always faithful and trusting in the Lord. On the other hand, my mother left me a very powerful phrase for the rest of my life. In difficult moments, when I thought that the things I was doing were not appreciated, she would tell me: "Every effort has its reward, don't give up, keep trying, there will be help and happiness later. Remembering this phrase makes my days more joyful and reminds me that I have goals and purposes to achieve.  Likewise, thanks to my mother, I was able to recognize my future vocation to be a teacher. Watching her teach the young people in the church we attended and the passion she had for teaching them, over time I had the opportunity to teach young people in the same way in my youth, and this wonderful experience confirmed to me that I would love this career.  On the other hand, a mother's love is essential for a son, she shows me her affection and deep love in the moments when she stops doing things to listen to how my day went, telling me jokes, and the best demonstration is when she hugs me and gives me a kiss. I have a lot of admiration for the warm love she shows not only to me but also to her family, she is always looking out for them and if she sees them in any difficulty she helps them to find a solution. In addition, she is a persevering woman who has taught me that God knows the plans of our lives and that blessings will come in His time. We just have to have faith and hope in our hearts. With much effort and determination, my mother along with my father got us through this country and allowed me to go to the university that I so desire, Montclair State University, and pursue my dream. Finally, I thank God for giving me an exemplary mother, who does everything possible so that I can be well, who supports me both in my studies and emotionally. I know that without her I could not be here. I love her very much and I hope she will be in my life so that she can see my achievements and feel more proud of me.

Transformation can be difficult, but it has the potential to improve our lives. By confronting challenges, we can become better versions of ourselves. Being a first-generation student is a unique and challenging experience. Leaving my native country of Ecuador with my family was complicated, as adjusting to the language, culture, and educational system was difficult. As a first-generation student, applying to the university was challenging. I was unsure about the requirements, costs, and necessary paperwork. Fortunately, teachers from high school generously shared their knowledge and supported me throughout the process. Thanks to their help, I discovered that Montclair State University was the right choice for me. Furthermore, I was aware that Linguistics would be my area of expertise, allowing me to instruct English as a second language (ESL) to students who are undergoing the same experience I had, and have a meaningful impact on their lives. On the other hand, the transition from high school to college is a personal struggle that I am having right now. Since this is my first year and I don't have any family members who have gone to college, I have to be aware of what classes to take, how to apply for financial aid, how to find out about programs or scholarships that exist in college. Likewise, I have more responsibilities on how to organize my time to attend activities, go to work and at the same time do the assigned homework. On the other hand, it is a little stressful because as the first in my family to obtain an advanced education, I must continue to strive to achieve all the goals I have set for myself as I value the sacrifice and work that my parents did and are currently doing for me. Thanks to my experience as a first-generation student, I have developed confidence in myself. I am confident that I will be able to finish college, just as I did in high school, with effort and dedication to overcome any obstacles that may come my way. As the first person in my family to earn a college degree, I am grateful for the support of those who have stood by me throughout this process. Despite the challenges that come with being a first-generation student, I am proud to have gained valuable experiences and knowledge. I can assist my future first-generation students by providing them with guidance to help them continue to excel in life. Additionally, I can support them in their studies, just as they are supporting me.

The teaching career is the noblest profession having a significant influence on society. As a teacher, I believe my role goes beyond teaching concepts and theories. My role as a future teacher is about reaching out to students, getting to know them, and transmitting teachings with love, understanding, and patience. In my personal experience, I had the opportunity to have excellent teachers who transmitted their support and knowledge during a difficult stage in my life when I was getting used to the culture of this country. They had a passion for teaching and I saw their dedication to inspire their students to consider advanced study. I hope that in the future I can do the same, that my students can remember the wise advice their teacher gave them and leave a lasting impression in the lives of young people. I believe that access to quality education is a fundamental right. As a teacher, I have a responsibility to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow. I hope to inspire young people to become lifelong learners and make a positive difference in the world. I aim to lead by example and share the lessons I have learned from facing challenges in my life. Most importantly, I want to support youth during the most critical stage of their lives and help them realize their potential to achieve their goals. I firmly believe that teachers have a significant impact on young people's lives. That is why I am confident that becoming a teacher is the right decision for me.

A person's knowledge can positively influence society. My goal is to obtain a certificate in Linguistics and a master's degree in teaching to help my native country, Ecuador. With my future degree, I hope to promote the learning of English, facilitate cultural exchange, and provide advice on scholarship programs and studies in the United States. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. However, when I immigrated to the United States and had to adapt to a new culture, learning the language proved to be difficult. This experience motivated me to major in Linguistics. My goal is to make a positive impact on education in both the United States and Ecuador by actively collaborating with local communities and organizations to support language education initiatives. By partnering with these groups, I aim to provide students with opportunities to practice and develop their language skills beyond the classroom. Additionally, I plan to promote the significance of language through workshops, programs, and activities that inspire people to study a second language and improve their oral and written fluency in English. This endeavor and dedication would not only benefit students but also adults seeking international job opportunities. As a linguistics teacher, I aim to promote language education and contribute to the intellectual and cultural development of Ecuador. I encourage students to explore new ideas and perspectives and facilitate cultural exchanges between students from the United States and Ecuador. This fosters a spirit of critical thinking and creativity that can enrich the cultural landscape of the country. I hope to train Ecuadorian teachers in innovative pedagogical methodologies and language teaching techniques. This will raise the quality of language education in my country, benefiting future generations of students. They will become active participants in shaping their society. Additionally, I would like to share my experience with other Ecuadorian students interested in studying here. I can guide you through the university application process, advise you on available scholarships to provide financial support, and help you prepare for standardized tests. My goal is to help you achieve your dream of studying abroad. I am committed to using my education and experience as a linguistics teacher to contribute to the development of Ecuador. I will inspire students to value linguistic diversity, support language education initiatives, and promote intellectual and cultural growth. My goal is to leave a lasting impact on education in both Ecuador and my home country. I believe that by making these efforts, we can create a more inclusive and vibrant society that celebrates and respects language and culture.

Each goal is met with persistence, effort, and a lot of discipline. Being part of a foreign country and having arrived in the United States of America, a very different country, both in its habits, education, and way of life, it was not easy for me to adapt. However, I had the pleasant opportunity to meet professional, kind, and experienced people who supported, motivated, and guided me to obtain scholarships and thus achieve one of my goals, which is to study at Montclair State University following the career of my dreams. . being a first generation immigrant student. Furthermore, I have big goals that I am now striving to achieve. I am studying higher education and graduating with honors obtaining my certificate in Linguistics with a master's degree in education in that way I want to become an excellent teacher having a strong desire to teach, serve, and help all the children, and young people in my community. We are currently living in a chaotic world, where it is very easy for young people to lose the purpose of their lives and end up following a path where making wrong decisions can cost them their future, even their lives. The future of the world is children and young people, they play an important role in the society in which we are living today. So, through my improvement and dedication to my education, my greatest desire is to become a teacher who influences the life of each student for good, and by proudly obtaining my Linguistics certification I will help all the students who participate in the ESL (English Second Language) who for any reason or circumstance come to America with the aim of improving themselves and making their dreams come true. Mastering the English language is one of the important aspects in this country to obtain more opportunities. Having the privilege and motivation to help, teach, and guide them will be a reminder of what my appreciated teachers did for me when I arrived in this country. It is my desire to have an impact on their lives and inspire them to achieve what they want as long as they fight, persevere, and with diligence and effort fight for their dreams. On the other hand, I will have the challenge of sharing, searching, and finding various methods to improve education and have a positive impact on teaching techniques so that there is better educational development. In the same way, I will continue to update myself with the change that will always exist technologically in education in terms of all the methods that are developed for teaching, this will allow me to practice my profession in an effective way. In conclusion, maybe I can't change the whole world, but by achieving these goals and desires I will know that I can help a small part of society and this will be rewarding and I will even feel proud to have an impact, especially on the lives of children—and young people from my community.

We are all leaders in our lives. It is incredible how leadership can influence our personal and student life. When I came to this country I had the example of great leaders, who showed me that developing leadership is something virtuous and that with time and experiences acquired helps us to maintain a clear focus and motivate us to achieve our goals. On the other hand, we can also have an impact on our community by leading activities or supporting programs to improve the quality of life. It is not necessary to occupy a leadership position and have authority, but the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve a common goal. Since my youth, I had the opportunity to be president of the young women's class in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and together with my leader, we plan activities for young people. That way, they share and enjoy it with other young people who have the same beliefs. Also, in our young women's class, we share the challenges we have, with the objective of knowing that we can reach each proposed goal and together we try to support each other to achieve it. On the other hand, by giving the lessons I try to build them up and at the same time remind them that their actions and deeds can make the world a better place. Being a leader goes with our attitude, with the way we relate to others and with our personality. When we belong to a team, the leader must be an example to follow. Being vice president of the Spanish National Honor Society was a great experience in my life since it helped me to develop responsibility, organize activities and learn to listen to the ideas of others to improve as a society. Thanks to the hard work, and leadership demonstrated with my classmates, we can feel joy and happiness in sending the money raised through the TEEM program to people in Peru who have a shortage of essential resources to live on. In conclusion, day-to-day leadership is an important skill that can have a significant impact on our daily interactions. The ability to positively influence others and motivate them to achieve common goals is critical to personal success. However, it is important to remember that leadership is not just about being in a position of power, but also about being in a position of service and compassion for others. Finally, leadership in everyday life allows us to grow and develop as individuals and to contribute to the collective well-being.

Destiny can change our lives in just a moment I have been able to see how destiny can change our lives in just a moment and if you see things positively, you will be fine. My parents once told me, “If you give up when the going gets tough, you'll never achieve anything worthwhile. Don't give up, keep walking, keep trying, there will be rewards and happiness later on." At the time I didn't understand what exactly they were saying to me, but I knew they were trying to prepare me for my future with these words. However, not even my parents’ wise words could have prepared me for the dramatic experience of leaving my country of origin, Ecuador, when I moved to the United States on May 21, 2019. Yet, the first values and principles I obtained in Ecuador were fundamental because they are always guiding me to have a clear vision to form the right decisions for my life. In my early years, I had the opportunity to be raised by supportive parents, who taught me to choose the correct principles when making my daily decisions. From applying these principles, I have learned confidence, courage, and firmness in the face of problems. When I arrived in the United States, even though I was with my parents and my brother, I felt insecure, since I had never left my hometown before. I was afraid to study in high school where I didn’t know the main language of English, and the method of teaching was completely different from what I was accustomed to. Also, I learned how difficult it is to get used to the climate, the food, and the culture of the United States. However, over time I was able to see every blessing in my life. When I needed guidance, there were always people willing to give me their advice and guide me. In the 4 years lived in New Jersey, every experience helped me to be grateful for the memorable moments like when I started taking violin courses and having performances, sharing with young people from the church I attend, seminary, tutoring and advising students from ESL who are students who don’t know the education system as I was one day. By helping other people I was able to have a different perspective of what it means to be able to serve others. Furthermore, one of them was when I served my community, completing volunteer and leadership hours I received a reward for being part of the National Honor Society. Furthermore, after graduating from university I want to transmit all the teachings to young people. To be a chemistry teacher who guides and helps them so that they can be successful in their lives like my teachers once did. Finally, with the memories, challenges, and advice from the people who love me, I have been able to be a better person; my character is more mature when making my own decisions. Now I live my youth living more experiences that will continue to prepare me to face new challenges, opportunities, and goals. Likewise, in the future one day, I will teach my family how important it is to trust in God and in oneself, and never give up because changes are good, they help you grow as a person and shape your character for the better.

Arriving in an unknown country is very hard. Getting used to their culture and language is very difficult. 4 years ago I came to the United States with my parents and my brother. Throughout this journey I have felt the love of God and the guidance he has given me. Going to a new school and not knowing the language discouraged me a lot. Since, I had no hope if I could move on. However, my parents reminded me that with the effort that one makes and faith in God, He rewards and blesses you. Some of the ways I feel God's love is that people always come into my life who are willing to give me their support and love. In the same way, the Lord reminds me that I have all the potential to achieve great things. Every achievement I had in High School I was able to obtain it thanks to the company and guidance that I always had from my Heavenly Father. Now at this time, my next step is to start university. But I really know that God will accompany me, guiding me, protecting me and putting angels in my life. Being the first generation to study at the university is not going to be easy, but I know that with faith in the Lord and have faith in myself I will be able to obtain my certificate in education. All things are possible if God is with you. The faith that I have will strengthen me daily, any difficulty or trial the Lord will be with me and I will be able to overcome it. The Lord will be with me to meet my proposed goals. Having faith in him I will be able to continue growing and continue learning from life. In this way, fulfill my greatest goal, Become a bilingual teacher and help young people who come from other countries by guiding them, giving them advice and trying to have an impact on their lives like my teachers did to me. In conclusion, in these years I have been able to feel more the help and blessings of God. My faith increased and now I know that I should never hesitate to ask him for guidance, as well as never give up when facing every trial I have because God is with me.
