1. Outside of golf, I enjoy nature and animals. I have rescued over 10 cats in my lifetime, nursing them back to health. While most of these cats were given away, I still have two of them. I also grew up playing the piano, but as I became more focused on golf, my piano playing faded. However, I still enjoy playing the piano from time to time, especially when I’m around family. 2I am currently a biology major and, while I’m not yet certain which direction I want to take, I am maintaining a 3.4 GPA despite a rigorous golf practice schedule at the Division 1 college level. I appreciate the flexibility this degree provides and am considering either a management position at a hospital or a research role. I am particularly interested in being at the forefront of cancer research and contributing to finding a cure for this devastating disease. I may continue my education beyond my bachelor's degree, aiming to gain enough knowledge and experience to avoid having to start at an entry level position. I plan on starting internships as soon as time permits so I can narrow down my focus and hone in on what I ultimately want to do. 3.Since my dad serves as an official, I have been involved in benevolent activities through his office for most of my life. Whether it was giving out turkeys every year or helping at-risk youth, I have always been by his side during these endeavors. During my freshman year at Texas A&M University, I volunteered at an animal shelter, where we helped rescue and nurse animals back to health. I am committed to continuing these types of benevolent activities in my community because I realize the impact they have on others. I believe in the principle that when you give, you receive it back tenfold. The biology degree I am earning will also enable me to give back, hopefully contributing to finding a cure for cancer and helping people through my knowledge, particularly within the African-American community. I have seen my father give free legal advice to those in need, and I hope my education will allow me to be a vessel of information to help bridge the resource and information gap in my community. 4.Being awarded this scholarship will definitely help ease the burden of being a college student. As you know, golf scholarships are very limited and do not provide 100% assistance. Typically, I lean on my parents and the little money I receive to bridge this gap. This scholarship will enable me to have some freedom and be a bit more independent and self-sufficient. Scholarships like these are very inspirational because they represent something I plan on doing in the future once I start earning a living on my own. I realize the importance of benevolence and following God’s word, and I believe scholarships like this are truly doing God's work. People and relationships are what I cherish, and I hope the relationships I am building now through golf and these scholarship opportunities will allow me to be successful once I finish school. I would be very honored to carry the torch as Hulede scholarship recipient.
