I have every reason not to pursue healthcare. I have witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made by both nurses and their families, the physical toll, the mental strain, and the failures of the healthcare system. I tried to convince myself to find a different career. I considered engineering because of my excellent aptitude for math and science. I pursued the process of auditioning for college BFA programs because of my consistent involvement in musical theatre throughout high school; but I quickly realized that although I deeply love performing, I want theatre to be my escape, not my livelihood. A small voice kept tugging me towards nursing. I am fulfilled when working directly with other humans in a personal capacity and believe that empathy is my strongest character trait. I can clearly picture myself confidently reassuring scared patients who trust me with their lives in their moments of vulnerability.
