Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
Hello, I’m Allison Moore. As a student at Lake Superior State University in the small town of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, my academic journey is infused with the essence of the surrounding natural beauty. Majoring in Criminal Justice with a concentration as a Conservation Officer, I have a passion for environmental preservation with a dedication to maintaining law and order. In the heart of the Midwest, where the seasons change with undeniable grace, my affinity for fall-inspired drinks at Starbucks has grown to embody more than just a seasonal treat. As a Conservation Officer major, my chosen path demands a unique blend of dedication and appreciation for the outdoors. Pursuing a career in law enforcement as a Conservation Officer not only requires a commitment to protecting the environment but also an inherent love for coffee, a sentiment shared by many in the profession. Enter the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, my iced favorite and a refreshing reminder that, much like the changing seasons, the challenges I face in my academic journey are best met with adaptability and a cool-headed approach. The crispness of the cold brew mirrors the precision needed in law enforcement, while the pumpkin cream signifies the warmth and empathy required in my conservation efforts. Simultaneously, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, a hot indulgence, serves as a metaphor for the warmth and tradition I hope to bring to my future career. The aromatic blend of espresso and pumpkin spice mirrors the delicate balance needed in navigating the complexities of criminal justice and environmental conservation. Being a student at Lake Superior State University, where the natural surroundings serve as both inspiration and classroom, has intensified my connection with these seasonal Starbucks delights. The aroma of a Pumpkin Spice Latte becomes intertwined with the scent of pine trees, creating a unique sensory experience that mirrors the multifaceted nature of my academic pursuits. In my pursuit of becoming a Conservation Officer, my love for coffee has become more than a simple preference; it's a shared ritual with colleagues and a symbol of the camaraderie inherent in the law enforcement community. Just as a Starbucks cup provides warmth during the brisk fall mornings, I aim to bring a sense of security and protection to the environments I serve. As I apply for this scholarship, I carry with me not only the academic ambitions fostered at Lake Superior State University but also the flavor of determination and the aroma of passion cultivated through my love for fall-inspired Starbucks beverages. This scholarship is not just a financial stepping stone; it is an acknowledgment of the unique blend of skills, values, and experiences I bring to my journey toward becoming a Conservation Officer in law enforcement. In essence, just as I savor the changing seasons and the aromatic notes of a Starbucks drink, I eagerly anticipate blending my skills and passion to create a narrative that transcends the boundaries of academia and contributes to the greater good.

    NE1 NE-Dream Scholarship
Hello, my name is Allison Moore, and I am a current freshman at Lake Superior State University, pursuing a major in criminal justice with a concentration as a conservation officer. I grew up in Fenton Michigan and went to Lake Fenton Community Schools. I actively participated in various activities, such as being a part of the track and field team where I competed in shot put and discus. Additionally, I pursued the role of junior co-editor for the yearbook my junior year, and by my senior year, I became co-editor and business manager. In my junior and senior years, I also took on dual enrollment with the local community college to get ahead. My commitment extended beyond academics, as I also contributed to the community by being a member of the National Honors Society and volunteering at the local food bank, a local animal rescue, and the Lake Fenton Athletic Boosters Concessions stands. Growing up with grandparents and a dad who took me hunting and fishing, I developed a profound appreciation of Michigan’s great outdoors. I also in the last few years began kayaking and hiking. It became evident to me early that a conventional desk job was not in line with my aspirations. I wanted a career where I could make a tangible impact. Since middle school, I have had a strong desire to pursue a path in law enforcement. As I progressed through high school, my interest in law enforcement solidified. I saw TV shows centered around police officers, with a particular focus on conservation officers, also known as game wardens. The intersection of my passion for the outdoors and law enforcement led me to identify my dream job. In my junior year of high school, I began researching colleges and found Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. When the time came to apply, I directed all my efforts toward LSSU, confident that it was the perfect fit for my educational journey. The role of a conservation officer captivated me, offering a unique opportunity to blend my love for the outdoors with my commitment to upholding the law. The prospect of protecting Michigan’s natural resources for current and future generations fueled my ambitions. I envision a future where children can experience the joys of the outdoors, disconnected from the distractions of phones and TVs. My dedication extends beyond the conservation of nature; I aspire to actively contribute to the protection of the commuting where I may work and live. Through my chosen career path, I aim to make a lasting impact, ensuring the preservation of both nature and the well-being of the community. Once I become a conservation officer, I want to start a program for young girls aspiring to become police officers and conservation officers. This initiative aims to empower and inspire the next generations of female law enforcement officers, providing them with mentorship, resources, and opportunities to explore their passions in a supportive environment. By fostering inclusivity and breaking gender stereotypes, I hope to contribute to a diverse and dynamic future for law enforcement, where individuals of all backgrounds can pursue their dreams without limitations. Through this program, I aim to make a lasting impact on the field and encourage more young women to pursue fulfilling careers.

Carole Willis Criminal Justice Reform Scholarship
As a sophomore student at Lake Superior State University, majoring in Criminal Justice with a concentration as a conservation officer, I have seen significant social issues within the criminal justice field, more specifically as a law enforcement officer. There is the perception that women may face obstacles or limitations more than their male colleagues in pursuing a successful career in law enforcement. Throughout high school and in my year in college I have been doubted by professors and peers. In response to this challenge, I have always wanted to meet female officers who are successfully making an impact in this field. I want to initiate a program aimed at empowering girls interested in criminal justice, demonstrating a commitment to breaking down gender barriers and promoting diversity within the field. Launching such a program involves careful planning and thoughtful execution. The aim would be to increase awareness about opportunities for women in criminal justice, provide mentorship and guidance, and create a supportive community where aspiring individuals can share experiences and insights. Collaboration with mentors and role models who have succeeded in the criminal justice field is crucial. These individuals would provide firsthand experience of their journeys, sharing challenges and triumphs, and serving as examples of women who have excelled in a traditionally male-dominated field. Their stories can be powerful motivators, inspiring generations of women to pursue their passions without being hindered by stereotypes. Throughout these programs, there will be educational workshops and seminars to cover various aspects of the criminal justice field, including law enforcement and conservation. Practical exposure, such as staff from law enforcement agencies and even conservation projects, to offer an understanding of what their future careers might entail. Program participants can connect with professionals and be provided with valuable contacts and potential mentors. Building a supportive community is crucial for overcoming challenges and creating a sense of belonging. To engage the community, the program would collaborate with schools, organizations, and law enforcement agencies to spread awareness and garner support. Establishing an online presence through a website and social media platforms to future extend the reach and keep participants informed about upcoming events and opportunities. In conclusion, my commitment to addressing gender stereotypes in law enforcement and other criminal justice careers through the creation of a program for aspiring female professionals is a commendable endeavor. By providing education, mentorship, and a supportive community to make a lasting impact on the lives of young women pursuing careers in criminal justice.
