I am a focused and diligent learner. I participate in both track and soccer as a double sport athlete. I've been working for almost 5 years now, and I care a lot about my work, my extracurricular activities, and my desire to become a better student and athlete. I train at the gym every day to improve my soccer and running. In my spare time, I enjoy helping my neighbors with grocery hauls and volunteering at my local food bank. I am also part of the soccer enrichment program during the summer. I enjoy helping young athletes with the fundamentals of the game.

Hello, my name is Allison McKenzie, and I am currently a sophomore undergraduate nursing student at Worcester State University. Volunteering within my community is one of my deepest passions, and I have been involved in several different activities.
Firstly, I have dedicated my time to helping elderly neighbors in various ways. This includes running errands, providing companionship, and assisting with basic household tasks. Through this experience, I have learned the value of patience and active listening, as many elderly individuals simply need someone to talk to. I have come to understand how crucial social connections are to overall health, especially for older adults. Additionally, I have been actively involved in a local food shelter, where I have taken on responsibilities related to preparing and distributing meals. This hands-on experience has opened my eyes to the significant challenges faced by individuals experiencing food insecurity. It has also provided me with insights into the broader social issues contributing to homelessness and hunger, motivating me to advocate for enhanced resources and support systems within our community.
Furthermore, I have participated in town fairs, where I have engaged with diverse groups of people to promote health awareness and wellness. A particular highlight has been my involvement in setting up health booths, where we provided valuable information on nutrition and preventive care. This experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of education as a fundamental component of overall health.
Looking ahead, I am determined to continue these efforts by seeking out additional opportunities that allow me to integrate my nursing knowledge with community service. Whether through outreach programs or health education initiatives, I am committed to contributing to the creation of a healthier and more supportive environment for everyone.
My long-term goal is to obtain my bachelor's degree, gain experience as a registered nurse at the bedside for a year or two, and eventually become a General Nurse Practitioner at a hospital in Boston. As I begin my nursing career in a clinical setting in the next week, I am eager to learn as much information and gain as much experience as I can to aid in the medical portion of being a nurse. I already have great experience with the social aspect of being a nurse - being nice and patient with the patients and listening to them when they need a person to talk to.
I am certain that I am an exceptionally qualified candidate for this scholarship. My extensive volunteer work, outstanding academic performance as a nursing student, and deep empathy and assistance for the individuals I have worked with all unequivocally position me as the top contender for this scholarship.
Carla M. Champagne Memorial Scholarship
As a nursing major in my freshman year of college, I understand the importance of having empathy toward others. My responsibilities extend beyond just learning how to be a nurse, as they include community involvement, effective communication, and helping others. I had the privilege of assisting at a local homeless shelter, where I packaged meals for the homeless and provided companionship. I also mentored young children playing sports, teaching them about teamwork, leadership, and bringing joy through their passion. Growing up, I played soccer and discovered my love for the sport. I wanted to share that passion with others and encourage them to find their passions. I've always had an unwavering desire to help others, including children and strangers. This is why I chose to major in nursing - because I want to make a positive impact on people's lives.
My experiences have shaped my perspective and driven me to fulfill my dream of making a difference in the world. I learned and taught myself to find the 'silver lining' in everyday life, life is stressful and tests your limits but it is how you attempt to look at it in that perspective. School has always been difficult for me, but I do not let that win. I work as hard as I can for everything I do. I will forever show patients how to find the 'silver lining' in situations that they can not predict, and I will be there to lend a helping hand. In 2022, I tore my ACL; a very serious and sport-threatening injury. I was in one of the darkest parts of my life, criticizing and damaging myself. Going through surgery and a year-long physical therapy recovery was mentally and physically draining. I learned the hard way that those types of injuries are not just a physical injury it is more of a mental injury. I told myself I would never be able to go to the gym, work, or even play soccer again; my physical therapist helped me overcome those obstacles. I am now a year and four months post-operation; I have noticed there have been a lot of sports injuries happening and that many athletes are starting to go down the same path as I did. I told them my story; how I was hurting more mentally than physically. I learned resilience and to show compassion for others.
Through my experiences with community service and mentorship, I have learned the importance of active engagement and human connection. When I visited the WHEAT Center shelter, I felt a sense of belonging and community that was truly special. While teaching children how to play soccer, I was surprised to realize that they looked up to me as a parental figure. They sought guidance on how to improve their skills and become leaders themselves. One child in particular, Gracie, stood out to me with her question about how to develop a passion for soccer and leadership abilities. Coaching soccer has allowed me to inspire children to work together and strive for their goals, reinforcing my belief in the power of mentorship. These experiences have shaped my commitment to service, and this scholarship will help me enormously as I pursue a career in nursing where I can continue to make a positive difference. Nursing has been evolving to more of a challenging healthcare system, but that will not stop me from providing support and a helping hand in caring for my patients.

My senior year was supposed to be the best year of my life. I was excited about all the activities and events that awaited me, or so I thought. All these feelings emerged as I entered my last year of high school. I was excited, nervous, and determined to make this year my best. Until the unthinkable happened.
As a high school soccer player, I was at the top of my game. I had dreams of playing in college and beyond. But all that changed when I tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It was a devastating experience that left me feeling frustrated and helpless. The injury happened during a soccer game, and I knew immediately that something was wrong. Pop! Is what I heard before falling to the ground in enormous pain. The pain was unbearable, and I could not move my knee. After visiting the doctor, it was confirmed that I had completely torn my ACL. I felt like my world had come crashing down on me. All the plans I had made for my senior year were now impossible to achieve. The tears would not stop flowing. The thought of missing prom, graduation, and other activities made me feel depressed. This injury has been the greatest driving force in my life.
On November 16, 2022, I underwent surgery to repair my ACL. The road to recovery was long and difficult, but what made it even harder was dealing with the negativity of my classmates when I returned to school. I remember walking into school on crutches, feeling exposed and vulnerable. Some students would make snide comments and ask insensitive questions about my injury. It was hurtful and frustrating. I felt isolated, anxious, and depressed. However, I focused on my recovery and found support from those who cared about me. It taught me to never give up on myself and surround myself with people who lift me, instead of tearing me down. I also developed a stronger sense of resilience that will allow me to overcome obstacles in the future.
Due to the setback of my ACL injury, I now appreciate all the lessons I have learned playing. I have learned the value of cooperation, commitment, tenacity, and communication. These abilities have also been beneficial to me in my academics and job. It has enabled me to develop enduring friendships with teammates who have a similar love and enthusiasm for the game. Additionally, soccer has improved both my physical and emotional well-being. I have improved my physical stamina, strength, and agility through consistent soccer practice over the years. It has also helped me develop my strategic thinking, focus, and pressure-handling skills. My desire to play college sports has not changed, despite suffering an ACL tear this season. Overall, playing soccer helped mold me into the person I am today.
Finally, I chose to pursue a BS in nursing because I wanted a career where I could make a positive impact on patients' lives. I am looking for scholarships because I did not qualify for financial aid. If granted this scholarship, it will reduce the amount of money borrowed to help pay for college and other expenses. Lastly, it will allow me to focus on my studies to pursue my goal of becoming a nurse.

Hello! My name is Allison McKenzie. I am a senior at Clinton High School, class of 2023. My goals have always been clear and concise. I have always wanted academic success, to pursue my passion for sports, and to give back to my community. Growing up in a small town taught me how to work hard, be determined, and persevere.
My first goal is to excel academically. After high school, my aim is to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Worcester State University. I chose nursing as a major because of my individual experiences. This led to me having specific goals of working as an orthopedic or clinical research nurse. Because I have witnessed firsthand the impact of an illness on my grandmother and my personal anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The nurses' support made a difference in our care as she navigated through radiation treatments and me through recovery after surgery. These experiences sparked my interest in nursing. I knew I wanted a career where I could impact patients' lives. I am excited to learn that the nursing degree program will equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to work in the medical field. Through education, hands-on training, and clinical experience, I aim to develop the expertise necessary to provide professional care with the highest level of compassion for my patients. As I begin my journey toward orthopedic or clinical research nursing, I am eager to learn from experienced practitioners.
Second, I am passionate about sports. My goal is to compete in multiple sports. I played on my high school's varsity soccer team for four years. I also played on the JV basketball team and the track and field team until I couldn’t because of my ACL injury. In doing so, I have learned the value of a strong work ethic and learned to work well with a team.
Lastly, I feel passionate about giving back to my community. I believe that giving back to others brings immense satisfaction and joy to life. I have volunteered at Wheat Hidden Treasure, a local thrift store that supports the local food program. I packed up miscellaneous items for patrons, took out the trash, and did other duties as needed. I tutored two local girls in algebra. I showed them the basic functions, equations, and how to solve problems step by step. I also participated in a soccer enrichment program, teaching young athletes the basics of soccer drills, such as ball control, passing, dribbling, and juggling.
I am motivated to succeed in my studies, career, and sports with dedication, hard work, and perseverance. I am seeking scholarships because I did not qualify for financial aid. I hope to reduce the number of loans I need to pay for college. Unfortunately, I had a season-ending ACL injury that depleted my savings. Because of my injury, I had to quit my job to heal. I started my current job at Starbucks in January 2023, saving as much as possible to put toward the final cost. My injury was unexpected, which left my parents paying out-of-pocket medical bills. The money they saved is no longer available, and this is why I want to help pay for college. I feel it is my responsibility to help as much as possible. If awarded this scholarship, it will ease the financial burden of tuition fees and other expenses associated with higher education. Becoming a nurse will allow me to pass on my future legacy to my children and community by providing excellent patient care.

After high school, my goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. For me, the decision to pursue a nursing degree wasn’t until my grandmother got sick and needed constant care. From that moment, I realized I wanted to serve people in some way. Watching the physicians’ and nurses’ comfort and care for her was inspiring. As I looked at my grandmother, I knew I wanted to be that someone for somebody else. I want to care for and support someone in their most fragile state, as these professionals have for her. My grandmother is the driving force behind my desire to earn a nursing degree to provide treatment and solutions that patients so truly need and desire. The nursing program has a lot to offer and teaches us about life's adventures. I have so many options in this field, and it is continuously changing. There is no better place to start than in nursing school if I want to fully experience the medical industry.

Hello! My name is Allison McKenzie, I am a senior at Clinton High School, class of 2023, with a GPA of 3.87. Coming from a small town in Clinton, Massachusetts, my goal has always been clear and concise. I have always wanted to achieve academic success. After high school, my goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Worcester State University.
A few years ago, my grandma received a lung cancer diagnosis. Six months after she finished her treatments, we learned that the radiation had been successful. How wonderful, we thought. We later learned that she had it on her other lung thanks to a subsequent CT scan. My grandmother isn’t your typical cancer patient, with options, like others. Unfortunately, she only has less than 30% of her lung that is functional. Therefore, an operation is not an option. To reduce the tumors, she has few radiation treatment alternatives. She also has COPD and other healthcare issues that limit her care options. As of right now, we are hopeful that the radiation was effective, but we must wait for her next scan to find out. I value my grandmother. She is lovable, fiery, caring, and outspoken. She is the driving force behind my desire to earn a nursing degree to provide treatment and solutions that patients so truly need and desire. By choosing nursing as a career, I can make a positive impact by providing quality healthcare to those in need.
My objective as a nursing student is to learn about numerous nursing fields of study, including anatomy, communication, and patient assessment. During my studies, I'll gain an understanding of how the human body works, as well as other critical thinking skills necessary for making decisions.
As well as how to talk to patients and their families productively while offering emotional support. I want to work as a nurse and give patients excellent care. Much like my grandma has, I want every patient to feel appreciated and cared for, whether it means holding their hand during a challenging treatment or simply saying something encouraging. The nursing program has a lot to offer and teaches us about life's adventures. I have so many options in this field, and it is continuously changing. There is no better place to start than in nursing school if I want to fully experience the medical industry.
Lastly, I am entering the nursing program without any prior medical experience, such as volunteering or internship. This may be a disadvantage; however, I believe the nursing program will provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the field. I am hoping to take advantage of the resources available to me by attending lectures and clinical rotations. As well as hands-on experience through simulation exercises and by seeking out mentorships from experienced nurses. I am confident that through perseverance and hard effort, I can develop into a compassionate, knowledgeable nurse who gives patients diligent care.
Thank you.

Lillian's & Ruby's Way Scholarship
Coming from a small town outside of Worcester, Massachusetts, my goals have always been clear and concise. I have always wanted to achieve academic success, pursue my passion for sports, and give back to my community. Growing up in a small town has taught me the importance of hard work, determination, and perseverance.
My first goal is to excel academically. I am determined to achieve high grades in all my courses and graduate with honors. Academics have always been a priority, receiving honor roll status throughout high school, while taking college credit courses, as well as AP classes, and keeping a 3.87 GPA. I am also a member of the National Honors Society. As I continue my education after high school, my goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I believe that education is the key to unlocking doors of opportunity and success. I like others believe nurses play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing compassionate care and support to patients in need. For me, the decision to pursue a nursing degree was influenced by the growing demand for healthcare professionals and the opportunity for job security and advancement.
As a nursing student, my goal is to become a competent and caring nurse who can provide quality care to patients. To achieve this goal, I will gain knowledge and skills in the various areas of the nursing program, such as anatomy, pharmacology, patient assessment, and communication. Through my studies, I will gain a deep understanding of how the human body works and be able to develop critical thinking skills that are necessary for making effective decisions. As well as how to communicate effectively with patients and their families while providing emotional support.
Secondly, I am passionate about sports. My goal is to participate in multiple sports teams (soccer, track, and field). I have played on my high school varsity soccer team for four years. In doing so, I have learned the value of a strong work ethic and gained the ability to work well with a team.
Lastly, giving back to my community is essential for me. I believe that helping others brings immense satisfaction and joy into one's life. I have taken part in community service at Wheat Hidden Treasures, a local thrift store that helps support the local food program by packaging up miscellaneous items for patrons, taking out the trash, and doing other duties as needed. I have also volunteered as a mentor for an 11-year-old girl struggling with her studies, especially math. I have also taken part in a soccer enrichment program over the summer, teaching young athletes the basics of soccer drills, such as ball control, and how to juggle; which helps with hand and eye coordination.
In conclusion, if awarded this scholarship, it will give me more financial wiggle room for better access to technology, books, and more.
Thank you.

Hello! My name is Allison McKenzie, I am a senior at Clinton High School, class of 2023. Coming from a small town outside of Worcester, Massachusetts, my goal has always been clear and concise. I have always wanted to achieve academic success. Growing up in a small town has taught me the importance of hard work, determination, and perseverance.
My goal is to excel academically. Academics have always been a priority, receiving honor roll status throughout high school while taking advanced placement and college credit courses. After high school, my goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Worcester State University.
For me, the decision to pursue a nursing degree wasn’t until my grandmother got sick and needed constant care, I realized I wanted to help people in some way. One thing that has stuck with me is the thought of being able to support and care for others when they are at their most fragile. It was inspiring to watch the doctors and nurses comfort and care for her.
To improve the lives of patients like my grandmother, I chose to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly nursing. I’ve learned that nurses play a critical role in the healthcare system by giving patients in need compassionate care and support. The chance for job security, and advancement; and the rising demand for healthcare professionals have both influenced my choice to seek a nursing degree.
As a nursing student, my objective is to acquire knowledge in various nursing programs of study, such as communication, patient assessment, and anatomy. I will gain a thorough understanding of how the human body functions through my studies, along with other critical thinking abilities that are essential for coming to wise decisions. As well as how to communicate effectively with patients and their families while providing emotional support. I want to become a nurse who provides quality care to patients. I want every patient to feel valued and cared for, just like my grandma has, whether that means holding their hand during a difficult procedure or simply offering a kind word of encouragement.
Life is an adventure, and the nursing program has so much to offer and learn from. It is constantly evolving and there are so many things I can do in the profession. I can’t wait to experience the medical field to its fullest and no better way to start than in the nursing program.

Career Search Scholarship
Being a teenager today is challenging. Young adults experience intense social anxiety and enormous pressure to be perfect. We must behave properly, avoid using harsh language, satisfy everyone around us, and get the best grades in order to be called the "ideal" daughter or son. I never would have thought I had an issue. Never mind a mental health issue. Because I kept everything bottled up inside of me. I never realized I needed help, nor did I know what I was feeling was more common than I knew. I only knew it was me against the world. Not feeling I had anyone to talk to. I lashed out at everyone. Until last year, my parents got me help. Help I didn’t even know I needed. Since then, I've been on a protracted road to recovery from my mental problems. I thought the anxiety I was feeling was just the typical high school stuff everyone goes through. Then I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I battled sadness and anxiety for many years, not knowing what it was called. Now I use medication and counseling to treat both of my mental diseases and problems. I didn’t want to depend on just medication and therapy so I joined a gym. Playing sports and training was also part of my plan to get healthy.
I have discovered that taking part in sports, training on my own, and going to the gym has helped my mental health. I want to pursue a degree in helping those with mental illnesses. Because I understand what they are going through: feeling isolated, without support, and unsure of how to cope with their mental disorder(s). In today's world, being a high school student is difficult. We must function as if we are "fine" with everyone around us, even though all we receive in return is hatred and disgust. My anxiety and depression caused me to separate myself from the rest of the world. I isolated myself from family and friends; missing out on things I might have enjoyed. If it wasn’t for my parents recognizing something was wrong, I wouldn’t be in a better place than I am today.
By pursuing a degree as a therapist, I feel I would help students cope with being a teenager. The lessons and skills I will learn within my classes will give me the mechanism to listen and help them deal with stress, bullying, arduous work, tests, and even relationships. It is a lot of stress on their shoulders, and dealing with it alone is difficult. I want to listen to and support them in any way possible. I understand how they feel. It is difficult to open up to people, especially when asked how are you feeling. As it took me a while to open up to my therapist. That is why I believe this career will bring me fulfillment.
After years of hating myself, I finally learned to love myself. I do not want people to focus solely on the negatives, as I did in the past. Everyone, even in the most difficult circumstances, is deserving of love.

My name is Allison McKenzie, and I come from a working-class family in a small town outside of Worcester, Massachusetts. I am currently a senior class of 2023 who is committed to my studies and hope to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Business Management with a minor in fitness.
I am a driven individual both inside and outside of the classroom. My personality is strong, independent, and dedicated to my studies, job, and community.
Academics have always been a priority for me, as I received honor roll status throughout high school while taking college credit courses, AP, and honor classes while maintaining a 3.80 grade point average. My educational journey has been challenging in terms of selecting advanced subjects while also equipping me with the tools to succeed in the classroom and the community. Outside of the classroom, I am involved in varsity and recreational soccer, as well as after-school activities such as the National Honor Society, a member of the CHS media crew. In addition to working 16 or more hours per week since I have been fourteen.
I was involved in my community as a young woman by participating in various cleanup days throughout town. I've assisted my elderly neighbors with grocery shopping, trash removal, and light yard work, as well as cleaning up our neighborhood baseball fields. I am a member of the National Honors Society. I've volunteered at Wheat Hidden Treasures, a local thrift store that helps support the local food program by packaging miscellaneous items for customers, taking out the trash, and performing other duties as needed. I've also volunteered as a mentor for an 11-year-old girl who is having difficulty with her studies, particularly math. Over the summer, I participated in a soccer enrichment program where I taught young athletes the fundamentals of soccer drills such as ball control, juggling for hand and eye coordination, and ball control. Being part of the soccer enrichment program has inspired me to continue volunteering as a soccer counselor for many years to come.
In addition, I am a member of the Clinton High School film crew and participate in a variety of sports.
My academic goal is to obtain a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Fitness. I'm excited to learn about managing resources such as finance and personnel, as well as the processes and procedures and developing a business plan. You will also learn the fundamentals of health and fitness.
Finally, I believe a bachelor's degree in business administration will provide me with the knowledge I need to be successful in life. The knowledge I will gain will assist me in achieving my goal of one day becoming a business owner. My desire to succeed in both my studies and life is what motivates me. I know dreams do change however, one thing that doesn’t change is my desire to learn and inspire others.

My name is Allison McKenzie, and I come from a working-class family in a small town outside of Worcester, Massachusetts. For years, I thought it was normal to feel isolated from my peers, friends, and family. I feel being a female 18-year-old today is difficult. The enormous pressure and social anxiety that young adults feel to be perfect are overwhelming. To be identified as the "perfect" daughter, we must please everyone around us, act appropriately, refrain from using foul language, and achieve the highest grades. I've been on a long journey to overcome my mental illnesses. I struggled with anxiety and depression for many years. Shortly after Covid entered the globe and as I struggled with high school, I realized I had depression. I used medication and counseling to treat both of my mental diseases. I've learned over time that participating in sports, training on my own, and going to the gym is all beneficial to my health.
I want to pursue a degree in helping those with mental illnesses because I understand what they are going through: feeling isolated, without support, and unsure of how to cope with their mental disorders. In today's world, being a high school student is difficult. We must act as if we are "fine" with everyone around us, even though all we receive in return is hatred and disgust. My anxiety causes me to disconnect from the world, believing that I am on my own to get away. It's difficult for me to concentrate.
I am finding it difficult to focus on school and being a senior in high school makes it even more difficult. With college around the corner, having to make and find money to pay for college is another major burden on my day-to-day life right now. If I worked as a therapist after college, I would help high school students and seniors prepare for college and life after college. Aiding them in learning how to cope with stress, bullies, arduous work, tests, and even relationships. It is a lot of stress on their shoulders and dealing with it alone is difficult.
I want to be there to support and encourage them. I want them to feel at ease, to trust me, and to know they are being heard. I want to make a positive impact on their lives. It is extremely difficult to talk to someone who does not listen, does not have your back, and does not provide you with the guidance you desperately need at that time. Trust, honesty and the sense of being heard are all things I've learned and want to pass on. I discover feelings; it took me months to open up to my therapist, and years to open up to my closest friends. I found the most relief in therapy, where I learned that it is okay to open up to people who genuinely care about you, even if you are afraid to do so.
I finally learned to love myself after years of hating myself. I don't want people to focus solely on the negatives, as I used to; everyone, even those in the most difficult circumstances, deserves to be loved.
Your Dream Music Scholarship
Music is a big form of communication. A single artist can inspire and help several people around the world indirectly without thinking that they are helping someone. The song that has the most important message to me is "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. Since the second the lyrics hit my ears, it had a message for me.
I have always thought of myself as not being pretty enough, smart enough, tough enough, strong enough, or even beautiful enough for anything in life. The song has an incredible and inclusive melody for everyone that has listened. The words, full of sadness and shame, show the full of power and strength that she should be feeling instead.
The song tells me that everyone at some point in time felt ashamed of themselves. Everyone is their own kind of beautiful, internally and externally. Not one person but you can tell you how to feel about yourself, only you can. I feel the song was meant to empower the listeners indirectly, the listener becoming stronger, more confident, and more empowered.
Yes, being beautiful and acceptable will change throughout the years according to society. But all that matters is how you see yourself, and how happy you are with yourself; other people cannot control you and how you see yourself. That is for you; your soul, to know and control itself. Not a stranger or a "friend" to tell you otherwise.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
Have you ever wanted something so bad, but it is not reachable no matter how hard you try? Even though you try everything in your power to achieve that goal. Well, not every goal is reachable and achievable, especially if you have no control over it, no matter how hard you try.
Let me explain, I am an athlete. I play multiple sports throughout high school. One sport I truly have a passion for, and love is soccer. I have played the game ever since I was four years old. Learning the skills and fundamentals over the years has made me a stronger player. I am an above-average utility player, who can play multiple positions when asked. I’m a versatile athlete and am willing to work with anything that is thrown at me; from striker, midfield, or defense. I am your girl. I have always imagined myself playing throughout my high school and college years.
Some think the challenge I have experienced is the typical disagreement about playing time, position, or challenges with the coaching staff. Well, that’s not it. I respect the decisions of the coach. The challenge I have met is recognition among my peers.
Let me clarify, one of my goals throughout high school was to become Captain of the soccer team. I felt the goal was always reachable. My coaches always praised me for giving 110% to my teammates and the game. I show up early, and I give my team and coach all my effort. But one significant factor, a red flag, always stood in the way regardless of my efforts. That is popularity. Popularity is what makes you a captain at my high school. It’s not the effort, it’s not leadership, it’s not your skill set, it’s how popular others see you. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, I’m not. I do go out of my way to be liked and put my best effort forward; but fail. This upsets me knowing I am a harder worker on and off the field and a leader. Despite how the captain's vote is decided.
My hope, and goal is to be captain in my last year of high school. Whether I succeed or not, it will not discourage my game, nor will it affect my love of the game. However, it has motivated me, even more, to know how far I have come as a person, teammate, athlete, and leader. I may not get the title of captain, but I do see myself as one. It’s reality and a lesson we all have had to experience once in our lifetime. However, the silver lining is being chosen to play on the varsity team all four years of high school, which has always given me the motivation to continue to play the game I love.

Integrity. I have had integrity ever since I entered high school. I was always one to focus on other people over myself, let others take control of my life, and I would let them. To me, integrity means having high moral principles and being honest. I have always been honest; yes, I tell little lies often, but everyone does. I am extremely honest when it comes to supporting my friends and family; people that mean the most to me. I am respectful to everyone, if I were to ask people whom I just met an hour prior they would say that I am helpful, hardworking, trustworthy, respectful, and responsible.
I have always counted on myself to get through the day, when it comes to helping my classmates or teammates in the classroom or even at practice, helping the poor by doing community service work, and giving so many people trust when they need it the most. My teachers, family, coworkers, and friends all say I am very hardworking, working diligently at my school work, participating in sports throughout the year, going to the gym to better myself, taking care of my mental health, and taking part in my part-time jobs throughout the past five years.
I was labeled as the hardest worker in my jobs as a cashier at the beginning, a dairy clerk, and a crew member. Exceeding the amount of work necessary, being patient with all the customers; even the painful ones, and getting all my work done faster than anyone else. I show honor where ever I go, helping the needy and less fortunate, and showing respect to customers, coworkers, teaching faculty, family, friends, and bosses. I have earned the privilege to call myself me; I have worked hard all my life and helped other people.
Tim Watabe Doing Hard Things Scholarship
Life is full of hardships and throwbacks. They vary from person to person but we all have to overcome them in one way or another.
Some of the hardships in my life that I have dealt with are my mental health issues and my recent knee surgery. I have severe trust issues from several reasons, that do not get any better because of my anxiety taking over a majority of the time. My knee surgery, this is one of the biggest set backs I have had so far in my 18 years of life. My senior year getting cut short out of the two sports that I love so much, Soccer and track and field. The countless hours spent in the gym, training at practice and on my own, all the research to better myself is now on hold for months. The recovery time is nine months to a year to fully return to sports and "hardcore" training.
I was told three weeks ago that I was behind schedule in my recovery from the surgon himself, hearing that broke me. I have been trying my hardest to get through day to day life, moving around the house, going to school, running errands, and even stressing about college and all the money that I have to find so I do not get into dept as soon as I graduate college.
I have always wanted to play soccer as well as track and field in college, I trained for countless hours for my senior year, the best and final year in my high school. But on the second game of the varsity soccer season, I tore my ACL. Getting the call from the Orthopedic at soccer practice after not knowing what was wrong with my knee for over a month, hearing the words, "Allison, you have a complete tear of your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)", I broke down crying in front of my entire soccer team. My senior year getting taken from me since that game.
My goals since surgery went from, 1. Getting the hang of crutches, 2. Bending my knee to 90 degrees using the CPM machine, 3. Walking with one crutch, 4. Bending my knee to 120 degrees, 5. Walking with no crutches, 6. Lifting and bending my knee by myself, 7. Getting Physical Therapy to unlock my knee brace, 8. Getting full range of motion of my knee, 9. Returning to the gym, the pitch (soccer field), and the track. As of right now I am on goal number 7 and it has only been a month and 2 days since my surgery.
I still have a long way to go, it is going to be mentally and physically hard to get back but I am determined. I will return before the 2023 fall season. I will get on Merrimack Colleges Division 1 soccer team.
Learning to face hard things impacted my relationships has been a rough path. I have always been the type of person to not talk about how I am feeling, I always turned to the gym and training as my outlet. Ever since the injury, I have not been able to go to the gym or train in any way. I lost friendships in the past because of me not opening up to people and having trust issues my entire life. I have learned that it is okay to trust people, to open my feelings, to not let my mind take over and push everyone away again.

Being an 18-year-old female in today's world is hard. Having to please everyone around us, acting prim and proper, not using foul language and getting the best grades to be labeled as a "perfect" daughter.
I have had a long journey dealing with trying to overcome my mental illnesses. Dealing with anxiety and depression for many years of my life. I found out I had depression just after Covid hit the world, and dealing with high school. I have seeked treatment with the use of medication for both of my mental disorders/illnesses, and with therapy. I have learned over time that playing sports, training on my own, and going to the gym have also helped with my mental health.
I want to pursue a degree in helping those with mental illnesses because I know what they are going through, feeling like no one is there to talk to, having no support, and not knowing how to cope with their mental disorder or disorders. Being a high schooler is hard in today's world. We need to act like we are "okay" to everyone around us while all we get in return is hatred and disgust.
My anxiety causes me to disassociate myself from the world, thinking I am all by myself to get away. I find it hard to focus in school now, and with me being a senior in high school that is really hard with college being right around the corner, having to make and find money to pay for college is another big toll on my day-to-day life right now. If I worked as a therapist leaving college, helping high school kids and high school seniors get ready for college and even the life following. Helping them learn how to cope with their stress, the bullys, the hard work and the tests they are going to be taking, and even relationships. It is a bunch of stress on their shoulders and it is not easy to deal with alone.
I want to be there as their support, as someone to talk to, it is not easy for people to talk to others. I know what that is like. I find it difficult to talk to new people about the way I am feeling, it took me about four to five months to start opening up to my therapist and many months to years to open up to my closest friends.
I found the most help in therapy, I learned that it is okay to open up to people that truly care about you even with the fear that they are going to leave. I learned how to love myself after years of hating myself. I do not want people to only look at the negatives like I did in the past, everyone is deserving of love even in the hardest times.
