Bio

Hello! I attend Kansas State University where I am a Pre-Med student majoring in Medical Biochemistry. I am very involved on campus and I love being in community. I play Division 1 soccer at Kansas State, I'm an active member in Chimes Junior Honorary, and I'm also on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where I plan service events for the student athletes here and support their overall well being. I plan on attending medical school after my undergrad to go into pediatrics. I am passionate about serving others and being a positive light in whatever space I am in.

    Margot Bogner Memorial Scholarship
    Winner
This scholarship introduced me to Margot Bogner’s legacy and I feel deeply inspired after learning about her beautiful life. From the information I gathered about Margot, she reflects a balance of ambition, service, and a commitment to uplifting others. These values closely mirror my own journey and goals as a soon to be junior Pre-Med student at Kansas State University. My name is Alix Regier and my path emulates that of Margot’s because of my passion for serving others and dedication to always growing in all areas of my life. At K-State I am a Medical Biochemistry major, a Division 1 women’s soccer player, a member of Chimes Junior Honorary, a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member, and an active participant in multiple volunteer organizations like Special Olympics. I am very involved on campus and I give my all to each community I serve in. Like Margot, I have always been driven by high academic and personal goals. My pursuit of a career in medicine stems from a deep desire to serve others. I hope to make a meaningful impact in my future career by going into pediatrics and improving children’s health and well-being. Balancing difficult pre-med classes with Division 1 athletics has taught me discipline, resilience, and time management. My time on the soccer team at K-State has taught me how to push through challenges and lead by example. I have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA, succeed on the soccer field, and create intentional friendships with those in my life. I think this shows how I balance my busy schedule well and still make time to be a normal college student and have fun with my friends. Service has been a central part of my college experience and personal growth. I am a member of Chimes Junior Honorary, an organization dedicated to leadership, scholarship, and service. Through Chimes, I have been able to give back to the Kansas State community while growing alongside other motivated peers who share a commitment to making a difference. In addition, I serve on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where we organize community service events, support student-athlete well-being, and create opportunities for athletes to engage meaningfully with our Manhattan community. Outside of campus organizations, I have volunteered with Special Olympics, the Humane Society, Cats for Cans food drives, and spent time serving at various outreach programs. One of the most impactful experiences I had was during my study abroad trip to Costa Rica, where I completed 40 hours of volunteer work. I worked with the Chepe Se Baña homeless shelter and participated in wellness activities with elderly residents at a care facility. These experiences reinforced my belief you can serve any person in many different ways. Service is a mindset of showing up for others wherever you are. Whether I am on the field, in the classroom, or serving my community, I strive to uplift those around me and be surrounded by individuals who challenge and inspire me to grow. I aim to carry this same spirit into my future as a physician, where I hope to not only treat patients but also advocate for them, empower families, and contribute positively to their lives. Overall, my path emulates Margot Bogner’s in its dedication to excellence, leadership, and service. I hope to continue honoring those values as I pursue medical school and ultimately a career as a pediatrician devoted to giving back and making a lasting impact. Being considered for this scholarship is such an amazing opportunity, not just because of the assistance it would provide, but because of the legacy it honors.

On the first day of school of my senior year I walked into Ms. Lucas' room and was greeted with excitement, love, and joy. I knew this teacher and class would be fun and it would be something I had never experienced before. My name is Alix Regier and I go to Yukon High School in Yukon, Oklahoma. A teacher who has deeply influenced me and changed how I approach my life is Erin Lucas. Ms. Lucas is all things fun, joyous, and intelligent. She is a senior "Capstone" teacher at my school, who I had first semester this year. Capstone is a required course at my school that all seniors must take in order to graduate. In this semester class we learn how to prepare for college and the real world outside of high school. The curriculum consists of units such as Personal Journey, Civics and Government, Leadership, Giving Back, etc. All very useful and relevant topics that I am glad were taught to me by Ms. Lucas. Each day Ms. Lucas greets every single one of her students by name with a big smile. She makes everyone feel loved, seen, and valued. She constantly asks how we are doing and about what is going on in our lives. I know that each day I spent in her classroom I felt loved and excited for what we were going to do that day. Ms. Lucas taught in many different ways that I feel were beneficial for different types of people. Even with "boring" PowerPoints she was required to show us, she made them fun and interactive. She would pick students to be the teacher for the day and they would go up and present the powerpoint to us while Ms. Lucas acted as a student. In our Personal Journey unit we learned about our core values and what that means for you and your life. We also learned how to break a bad habit or behavior. Ms. Lucas was trying to fix her behavior of procrastination. She told us how she would constantly ask herself "How can I help future Ms. Lucas?" I definitely have now adopted this way of thinking to help set myself up for success in the future. For example, it could be something as simple as picking out your outfit and packing your bag the night before for the morning to make the start of your day quick and enjoyable. Ms. Lucas also, most importantly, taught me how to make people feel valued and how to help your community. She has a non profit that focuses on providing people their passion, purpose, and path by providing holistic and heuristic opportunities to connect to yourself and your community. I found it so inspiring that one of my teachers was doing something like this that was so impactful and meaningful on top of being an amazing teacher who gives to so many students. I want to be like Ms. Lucas when I am older and I am so grateful for her and teachers like her who help and inspire students. Overall, Ms. Lucas deeply inspires me to be the best version of myself as well as help others be the best versions of themselves. She challenged me to approach bad behaviors and habits with determination to turn them into a strength through healthy coping mechanisms. I love Ms. Lucas and I know I am a better leader, student, and person because of her.

Ever since I could remember I played soccer. Dribbling the ball around the house, playing in the garage with my dad and sister, soccer is what we did, ALL of the time. I started playing when I was three years old, my first game that I can actually remember playing in I scored 8 goals and got oranges and juice boxes after the game. I loved playing soccer and that love and passion has stuck with me my whole life. I am now a high school senior committed to play soccer at Kansas State University. My dream came true, playing soccer at a Division 1 school. I am so blessed for the family, coaches, teammates, and friends in my life who have helped me get to this point, but most of all I am grateful for my dad. My dad was a soccer player too. He played soccer all growing up, in college, and even professionally. He is the reason my sister and I started in soccer and got pretty good at this sport. My dad loves me more than anything in the world and he is my hero and best friend. Soccer is something that we have done together my whole life and I know he is one of the reasons I love the sport and continue to get better at it. I am passionate about soccer because I love the feeling of the ball at my feet, dribbling through people, and scoring a winning goal. It gives me a feeling that nothing else in this world could. I love competing, winning, and having a place to belong. Being on any sports team gives you a sense of belonging and I believe that is such an important feeling you need. Everyone needs people who are there for them and encourage them, and soccer gave me those people. My club and high school soccer teammates are my best friends and I can't imagine life without them. Soccer has also taught me so many important lessons about life. I have learned how to manage being a busy student athlete. Going from school, to practice, then back home to do homework every day is challenging and taught me a lesson on time management. I feel very prepared for college and I am so excited to have the opportunity to play at the next level. Soccer also taught me about having confidence and believing in yourself. There have been months, seasons, or even years where I felt I just wasn't playing my best. At times I played timid and like I was afraid to mess up. You can't play this way and be great, just like you can't live your life that way and succeed. Having confidence and playing to win rather than not to mess up is how you truly excel. I learned that you will never have perfect game, you are going to mess up, but it is how you react to your mistake that defines your character. Overall, from soccer I have learned that I am a strong, hardworking, and determined person. I can't thank this sport enough for all the memories, friendships, and lessons it has given me. This scholarship would help me pay for my tuition this first year at Kansas State. It would be an unbelievable blessing so that I could focus more on school/soccer and not worry as much about the cost, because although I am getting a small soccer scholarship and academic money, school is expensive. I am responsible for paying for the rest of my school. Thank you for your time, generosity, and consideration.

The person who has supported me most in reaching my educational goals is my dad. My parents got divorced when I was 8 years old and I have lived with my dad ever since. My dad is my sister and I's biggest hero, he would do anything for us. Ever since we were little he told us that we could do anything and no one could ever tell us otherwise. That is why I fully believe that with my whole heart, and I am so grateful to have grown up with a parent as kind and encouraging as my dad. Something my dad made sure was engrained in my life is the importance of love and learning. He always says, "The most important thing is to love, and the second most important thing is to learn." Those two things are what I value most in the world. Because of my dad, my main goal in life is to continuously have compassion for others, as well as never stop learning new things. Growing up with mainly just my dad was hard some of the time. He has a lot on his plate with work, my sister, me, and all of the activities we are involved in. Although now I understand this must have been hard for him, he never once acted like it. He always is happy to do whatever for me and my little sister. My dad was always willing to help with homework, projects, or just anything we needed help with. He always made time for us and helped us to the best of his ability. I am truly so grateful to have had such a supportive person in my life like my dad. Another way my dad has supported me throughout my life is through the game of soccer. He was a great soccer player, who played college soccer at Trinity University in San Antonio and even played professional indoor soccer back in the day. So, naturally, from the time I could walk, I was playing soccer. I have played for 15 years now and I am committed to Kansas State University to further my academic and athletic career. None of that would be possible without my dad, and soccer has been something that we have always shared together. I plan on completing the Pre-Med program at Kansas State and then applying for medical school at Oklahoma University. Although I am getting some scholarships for athletics, I still have quite a bit of school left to pay for myself. This scholarship would benefit me and my dad so much and I am so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you so much for your time and generosity.

I am Alix Regier, a high school senior from Yukon, Oklahoma. I have been admitted to Kansas State University where I plan to go and complete their Pre-Med program. I am also committed to play soccer at this university and couldn't be more excited. After I graduate from Kansas State I plan to apply for medical school at the University of Oklahoma. My goal is to have found what area of medicine I want to specialize in by the time I complete the Pre-Med program. I want to go into the medical field for many reasons but my main inspiration has to be my mom. My mom is a ninth-grade advanced biology teacher at my high school, she was my teacher and will always be my favorite teacher I ever had. Her class was where I first learned that I love science and that was something I wanted to pursue in college. My mom is the strongest and smartest woman I know, and growing up I wanted to be just like her. My mom always taught me the importance of education and she made sure it was always a priority in my sister and I's lives. She has a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry and is such an amazing teacher to so many students. I am grateful that she has been a positive influence in my life and that she has always encouraged me to do what I love. Now that I am a senior I know that this career path is for sure what I want to do. The two things I value most are love and learning. Whether I become a doctor, a nurse, or even a surgeon I know that I will be contributing love to my patients by helping them to the best of my ability, and I will constantly be learning from all of the brilliant people around me. I hope to be a person that others trust and are willing to seek help from. I believe that true joy comes from serving others, which is why I am so passionate about pursuing this career. Like my mom, I hope to inspire other young women who are interested in STEM that there is a place for them in this workplace. No one should ever tell you that you can't do something. My main goal for my career and my life in general is to never stop loving and learning.
    "What Moves You" Scholarship
A quote or in my case a Bible verse that has moved me is 2 Timothy 1:7, which states, "For God gave us a Spirit, not of fear, but of power and love and self-control." This has inspired me to pursue my goals by reminding me that all fear is not from God and that I never should be afraid to go after my passions. I have a powerful, loving, and self-controlled spirit given to me by God and if that is motivation enough to pursue my dreams I don't know what is. Fear should never be something that holds me back or stops me from being who I want to be and doing what I want to do.
