My name is Alisa Gramm, and I am currently entering my junior year (J2) this fall in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Central Oklahoma. As a proud Cherokee woman, I am deeply committed to serving others through compassionate care, leadership, and advocacy.
I work as a rehabilitation nurse technician at a local hospital and also hold a second job at a small, locally owned retail business. Balancing both jobs while maintaining strong academic performance has strengthened my time management, adaptability, and sense of responsibility. As the oldest sibling in my family, I’ve always carried a natural drive to lead, support others, and work hard toward my goals.
I am an active member of the Student Nurses Association and currently serve as Director of Marketing for the UCO Native American Student Association. In this role, I promote cultural awareness and uplift Native voices through events, outreach, and communication.
I’m extremely passionate about caring for patients to the best of my ability. A nurse’s attitude can make a profound difference, especially during someone’s darkest moments. I strive to maintain a positive and uplifting presence in healthcare—to be a source of light, hope, and encouragement for those who need it most.
I’ve made the honor roll multiple times and remain committed to academic and professional excellence. My long-term goal is to work in intermediate or intensive care. For me, nursing is more than a career. It’s a calling to lead with heart and serve with purpose.

I am interested in pursuing a career in nursing because it enables me to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others through both clinical skills and compassionate care. From an early age, I have felt a strong desire to help people. Over time, that desire developed into a focused passion for healthcare. Nursing offers the opportunity to care for patients during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, and that level of responsibility is something I value deeply.
My interest in nursing has grown through personal and professional experiences. In the summer of 2023, I volunteered with Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa, Oklahoma, through their student program. This opportunity gave me a firsthand look at the hospital environment and the critical role nurses play in delivering patient-centered care. I was inspired by the teamwork, communication, and compassion I observed from the staff. That experience confirmed my desire to become part of a healthcare team that prioritizes both clinical excellence and emotional support.
I currently work as a rehabilitation nurse technician at Encompass Health, where I support patients throughout their recovery process. I enjoy building relationships with patients, learning about their lives, and understanding what motivates them to achieve their healing goals. These interactions have shown me how rewarding it is to provide not only physical care but also emotional encouragement. A kind word or thoughtful gesture can make a real difference in a patient’s experience, and I am honored to be part of that healing journey.
Another reason nursing appeals to me is the flexibility and variety the field offers. With so many specialties, settings, and advancement paths, nursing provides opportunities to grow and evolve while maintaining job security and long-term fulfillment. I am particularly passionate about intermediate care, the operating room, and intensive care. These high-acuity settings require strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations. While I am especially drawn to those areas, I truly appreciate every specialty in nursing. Each one plays a vital role, and I believe it takes all of us working together to provide the best outcomes for patients.
To me, nursing is not just a profession. It is a lifelong commitment to service, empathy, and continual learning. I am eager to grow into a nurse who delivers excellent care, uplifts others, and contributes meaningfully to the healthcare community. I look forward to continuing this journey with purpose and professionalism, committed to lifelong growth in the nursing field.
