Bio

My name is Alijahwan Maragh and I attend Clemson University. Since elementary school, pursuing a higher education within the engineering field has always been a strong passion of mine. Having this passion in mind, I undoubtedly resorted to choosing engineering as a first choice major. Throughout my high school academic career, I have involved myself in the AP Capstone, New Tech, and Magnet Program whilst maintaining a competitive 3.93 GPA and being within the top 13% of my class. These clubs and programs have assisted in propelling me into the next chapter in my life teaching me valuable research, collaboration, and communication skills. Furthermore, I have participated within the National Honors Society, contributing numerous hours back into the community via volunteer services. While attending Clemson University, I plan to pursue a variety of academic goals. Predominantly, I wish to challenge myself through taking challenging courses and continuing to involve myself in interdisciplinary-based research. Additionally, I wish to join an Honors society to connect with students with similar interests and career paths. Prioritizing my educational goals and surrounding myself with peers will allow me to align my interest and continue to focus on the significance of academics.

Throughout my entire childhood and academic career, pursuing engineering has always been a strong passion of mine. Growing up, I have always enjoyed problem-solving, working with my peers, and assisting those in my local communities. ow, after completing my first full year of general engineering at university, my career goals have begun to define themselves. In the upcoming Fall semesters, I intend to officially declare pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree at Clemson University. My short-term engineering goals revolve around my ability to improve my problem-solving, communication, and leadership ability. I believe engineering serves as a foundation for many fundamental lifelong skills which can help propel me into my future and long-term aspirations. Moreover, I have developed an admiration for helping others academically, especially in my engineering-related classes. Whether it be assisting peers or helping others understand difficult topics, I find both to be highly rewarding. From that, another short-term goal of mine would be to work as an undergraduate teaching assistant and volunteer for the university’s tutoring program. My culminating short-term goal would be to employed or develop some experience at a start-up during my undergraduate, which can hopefully provide some direct hands-on learning and a unique insight into the career. In addition to my short-term academic goals, I believe engineering will provide long-term avenues for helping/educating others, as there are always new technologies to be learned and taught. My long-term goals would be to initially pursue a post-graduate degree in Industrial Engineering and involve myself in on-campus research. Upon graduating, I planned on finding an entry career opportunity at a start-up where I can utilize my knowledge to promote environmentally healthy business practices through system optimization and waste reduction. I aspire to find a career opportunity in which is both rewarding and challenging, where I can assist in maintaining good company practices. Moreover, I wish to develop strategies and solutions within my specific line of work that have long-term positive implications which can be used to improve other company practices in society. Similarly, I wish to develop skills that exceed my specific job expectations, hoping to be able to become a better well-rounded person and expand my future opportunities and skillsets. However, among all of my career goals, my most ambitious intent within engineering is to eventually create and maintain my own Industrial Engineering consulting startup firm after developing a firm basis in the industry. Through this, I hope to assist businesses financially, resourcefully, and through a means of reducing waste. Ideally, having a lasting impact within the engineering field through either unprecedented solutions or a company legacy that outlives that me, is the ultimate goal. Currently, I am preparing myself short-term through club involvement, part-time job opportunities, and attempts to involve myself in university-guided research to expand my knowledge. I am employed as a part-time cashier at Publix and have begun club research and involved myself in the Black Student Union and the National Society of Black Engineers. Through this, I hope to improve my communication skills and ability to collaborate with my peers whilst developing important relationships. I am continuing to pursue my undergraduate with a high GPA to hopefully fulfill my goals of pursuing a master's degree and begin working towards my long-term goals.
