Your dreams often seem so far away and so far to grasp when your imagining your future. It’s not until you stop procrastinating and decide this is what I want, when everything seems to come together. Ever since I was a little girl the thought of helping other get well has always been a passion of mine. Nursing was what I decided then and there was going to be my future goal/career. When I got to High school I decided to keep my grades up which allowed me to finish with a 4.3 GPA. I joined the HOSA club which pertains to the medical field. I got a job at the hospital to familiarize myself with the environment I want to build my career in. I’m taking the Nursing Fundamentals class now in order to obtain my CRNA licenses. I’ve decided to go to a 4 year university to first achieve my RN licenses. Next I will work a year in a critical environment such as the ICU. In order to go to Anesthesiologist school to become a CRNA.

Imagine you were someone in need of food, clothing, or just a place to live. Giving back is important to me as everyone can’t be blessed to grow up in a family that has money. The world is this diverse place made up of people with all different careers/professions. Not everyone can get lucky enough to create a billion dollar company like they want or to simply not be in debt. Without money the world wouldn’t go round and we wouldn’t function properly. Which is why it’s important to give back to those that are less fortunate. Even the Bible states that you should take 10% of your income to give back to the church in a tithe and offering. To give back to my community, ever year I try to donate as much canned foods I can to those in need. I help take items to nursing homes who can’t afford certain necessities they need. As well this year I helped pack stockings filled with items for kids who’s parents couldn’t afford to give them a Christmas.

Since childhood my mother has talked about me attending college. My grandparents didn’t have much money and she took out many loans but however she did it. She went to a little college, close to home, and finished with her Bachelors. After working as a nurse for a year she finally went to WSSU to get her Masters. Being the youngest of 5, the option of going to college for her wasn’t truly a given choice. She grew up in trailer homes, constantly moving as my grandpa was in the military. Some night food was so scarce, they would wonder what they could even eat. My grandma didn’t work and she couldn’t drive herself no where. Understanding the struggles my mother went through as a child and her still attending/completing college baffles me. I strive to be just as accomplished as she is. Knowing she did it, gives me great hope that I can do it as well. She never gave up no matter the odds against her, meaning I can don’t give up. I’m doing this not only for myself and to better me but, for me and to give back to her.

Since I was little, I can remember the stories my mom would tell me of the days she worked at the hospital. Not long after that I took a liking to the thought of helping people in any way possible. From just standing up to a bully at school or helping to walk a girl to the nurse after she fell on the playground. Knowing I could help others, always brought a smile to my face and made me feel warm inside. Charming, hardworking, and energetic are a few words that can describe me. I’ve always strived to do my very best no matter the circumstances. In school I always wanted to take the honors classes, creating a higher GPA, and making me be in the top of my class. Not many people who looked liked me however would take these classes as well. I would constantly learn to make new friends with the people in these classes. I don’t mind having to meet new people, I just know my goal in life. To become a nurse who can help others no matter the circumstances. Knowing day in and day out that I helped some person to live another day. My dad was the first in his family to go to college and I want to carry on that legacy. I can not achieve my dream of helping others without college.
