    National Business Leadership Scholarship
I believe that who you are matters just as much as what you achieve. In the business world, decisions aren’t just about profit—they shape people’s lives, communities, and futures. My beliefs, values, and ethics will serve as the foundation for every choice I make as an entrepreneur, guiding me to lead with integrity, fairness, and a focus on creating positive impact. One of my core beliefs is that success should never come at the cost of honesty or fairness. Growing up, I was taught that your word is your most valuable asset. Whether in personal relationships or professional ones, trust takes years to build but can be lost in seconds. In my future business, I plan to prioritize transparency in all operations, from the way I communicate with employees to how I engage with customers and partners. Clear, honest communication builds credibility—and credibility builds long-term success. Another value that shapes me is the belief that people come first. Businesses are built by people, and without them, there is no company. That means treating employees with respect, paying fair wages, and providing growth opportunities. It also means truly listening to customers and valuing their feedback, not just as a way to make sales, but as a way to serve them better. In my view, a business that invests in people will always see returns in loyalty, innovation, and community support. I also value responsibility—both social and environmental. I believe businesses have a duty to give back to the communities they operate in and to minimize their negative impact on the planet. For me, this means integrating sustainable practices into my business model and making community involvement a core part of my brand identity. Whether through charitable partnerships, mentorship programs, or volunteer initiatives, I want my business to be a force for good.Ethics will guide how I navigate challenges and opportunities. The business world is fast-paced, and it’s easy to be tempted by shortcuts that may bring quick profits but compromise values. My approach will be to weigh every decision not just on its financial merits but on its alignment with my principles. If a deal benefits the bottom line but harms the trust of my customers or the well-being of my team, it’s not the right deal for me.I also believe in leading by example. As a business owner, my actions set the tone for company culture. If I expect honesty, hard work, and respect from my team, I have to demonstrate those qualities myself—consistently. My background in wrestling has reinforced this lesson. As a team captain, I learned that leadership is about showing up, working hard, and setting the standard for others to follow. In the same way, in business, I will strive to model the values I want my company to reflect.Lastly, I value perseverance. The road to building a business is full of challenges—financial hurdles, competition, market changes—but my ethics demand that I face these obstacles with determination rather than compromising my principles for an easier way out. Wrestling taught me that the hardest battles are often the most rewarding, and I plan to bring that same mindset to the business world. In the end, my beliefs, values, and ethics are not separate from my business plans—they are the core of them. I want to build a company that is profitable, but also meaningful; one that not only meets financial goals but also leaves a positive mark on people and the world. By staying true to my principles, I believe I can succeed in a way that I can be proud of, and that others can respect and trust.
    YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
Wrestling has been a major part of my life for over five years. I began wrestling in high school at Juanita High School, and it quickly became much more than just a sport to me—it became a passion and a way of shaping who I am. Through wrestling, I have learned valuable lessons in discipline, resilience, leadership, and perseverance that have carried over into every aspect of my life. During my high school career, I had the honor of serving as team captain. This role gave me the opportunity to lead by example and motivate my teammates through both the highs and the lows. Wrestling is an individual sport, but it also requires a strong team mindset. We rely on each other for support, encouragement, and accountability. Being captain taught me how to inspire others, manage challenges as a group, and maintain a positive attitude even when the pressure is high. Throughout my wrestling journey, I have earned several awards and achievements that reflect my commitment and hard work. I received All-Conference honors multiple years and had the privilege of placing at regional tournaments. One of my proudest accomplishments was qualifying for the state championships—a milestone that pushed me to refine my skills and develop mental toughness. Competing at that level taught me how to perform under pressure and how to bounce back from setbacks. Every match was a lesson in perseverance, strategy, and self-belief. Now, I am excited to continue wrestling at Linfield University as a student-athlete. While I am currently competing as a walk-on without an athletic scholarship, I am fully committed to contributing to the team and growing as both an athlete and a student. The transition from high school to college athletics is challenging but rewarding. It requires balancing the intense demands of training, competitions, and travel with rigorous academic work. This balancing act has strengthened my time management skills and fueled my determination to excel in both arenas. Being a student-athlete means more to me than just competing in a sport. It means embodying discipline, resilience, and commitment in every part of my life. It means showing up every day with purpose, whether in the classroom or the gym. It means supporting my teammates and building a community where we lift each other up. Wrestling has taught me to stay focused on my goals, to manage pressure with grace, and to never give up even when faced with adversity. This sport has also given me confidence and leadership skills that I apply off the mat. Whether it’s leading study groups, volunteering in my community, or mentoring younger athletes, I use the lessons from wrestling to encourage and empower those around me. I believe that athletics can be a powerful tool for personal growth and positive change, especially for young women who are learning to find their voice and their strength. Being considered to represent YGIG – You Got It Girl – would be an incredible honor. It would allow me to serve as a role model and advocate for other female athletes who are working hard to balance sports, school, and life. I want to inspire others to pursue their passions fearlessly, to embrace challenges as opportunities, and to believe in their potential no matter the obstacles. Looking ahead, I am committed to continuing my wrestling journey with the same passion and dedication that brought me this far. I also aspire to leverage the skills and values I have developed through athletics in my academic and professional goals. Ultimately, being a student-athlete has shaped me into a determined, disciplined, and compassionate person—qualities I will carry forward as I work toward my dreams and support others on their journeys.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
My name is Alicia Canaca, and I am a first-year student at Linfield University studying Business. Growing up, I was always taught that hard work and dedication open doors, but I also learned that having a dream to chase is what really keeps you moving forward. My story is about balancing those two — working hard every day while never losing sight of the future I want to build. I come from a family where college was never guaranteed. Being the first person in my family to attend a four-year university is something I take very seriously. It’s not just about me — it’s about showing my younger family members and everyone in my community that it’s possible to break cycles and create a better life through education and perseverance. Wrestling has been a huge part of who I am. In high school, I was the captain of my wrestling team, and that experience taught me so much about leadership, grit, and pushing through challenges when things get tough. Wrestling isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life that pushes me to be mentally strong and disciplined, qualities I bring to my studies and everyday life. Being a student-athlete at Linfield is demanding, but it also gives me a community and a sense of purpose that motivates me to keep going. My passion for business comes from a desire to create something meaningful — not just for myself, but for others too. I want to build a business that supports my community by creating jobs, providing mentorship, and inspiring young people to chase their dreams just like I am. I believe business can be a force for good, and I want to be part of that positive change. But the journey isn’t easy. Paying for college while balancing school and wrestling is a challenge. This scholarship would make a huge difference by easing the financial burden and giving me more time and energy to focus on my goals. It would help cover tuition, books, and essentials, allowing me to put my full effort into learning and growing both academically and personally. More than just financial help, this scholarship would be a sign that others believe in me and my future. That support means everything — it pushes me to work harder and reminds me that I’m not alone on this journey. I want to take every opportunity I can during college — leadership roles, internships, community projects — because I know these experiences will prepare me to be a strong business leader and a mentor for others. My dream is to one day give back by offering scholarships and support to students who are walking the path I’m on now. I’m proud of where I come from and excited about where I’m headed. With passion, determination, and support like this scholarship, I know I can turn my dreams into reality and make a positive impact for my family and community.
    Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My name is Alicia Canaca, and I am currently a first-year student at Linfield University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. My passion for business started early, fueled by a desire not only to succeed personally but to create opportunities for my community. Attending college and earning this degree is the foundation I need to build a future where I can be both an entrepreneur and a mentor for others. Growing up, my family taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I am proud to be the first in my family to attend a four-year university, which carries both honor and responsibility. I want to set a positive example for my younger family members and others around me, showing that through education and determination, we can overcome challenges and achieve our dreams. One of the most important parts of my journey has been my involvement in wrestling. During high school, I was honored to serve as a team captain for my school’s wrestling team, which helped me develop leadership skills, discipline, and resilience. Wrestling has taught me to keep pushing forward even when things get difficult. These lessons have shaped how I approach challenges in my academic life and personal growth today at Linfield University. Balancing my role as a student-athlete has been both challenging and rewarding. It requires careful time management and focus, but it also gives me confidence and a sense of belonging on campus. Wrestling has pushed me to develop mental toughness and teamwork skills that I know will benefit me in business and in life. My goal is to use my business education to create a company that not only thrives financially but also uplifts the community. I want to provide opportunities—like jobs and internships—for young people, especially those who come from backgrounds similar to mine. Giving back and mentoring others is very important to me because I believe success is most meaningful when it helps others succeed too. However, pursuing this path requires financial resources that are difficult to manage alongside school and sports. This scholarship would be a vital support, easing the financial pressure so I can focus more fully on my education and athletic commitments. It would help cover tuition, books, and other expenses, allowing me to reduce the hours I need to work outside of school. That extra time and peace of mind would be invaluable as I strive to excel academically and prepare for my future career. Beyond financial relief, this scholarship represents an investment in my future and the community I am committed to serving. It would enable me to engage in leadership activities, volunteer work, and internships that can broaden my skills and network. More importantly, it would affirm the importance of hard work and education by showing me that others believe in my potential. I am determined to make the most of my college experience and to grow into a leader who can inspire others. With the help of this scholarship, I will be one step closer to becoming the business owner and mentor I aspire to be. I look forward to a future where I can give back by supporting students like myself, creating a cycle of opportunity and empowerment.

These experiences inspire me to keep giving back and to build a business culture that values inclusion, support, and growth. My legacy will also be about resilience and breaking barriers. As a woman navigating a male-dominated field, I hope my journey will inspire others facing similar challenges to pursue their dreams fearlessly. I want to be known not only for what I create but for how I create it—with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to making the world better. In the future, I see my company thriving and expanding, creating jobs and opportunities, and actively partnering with schools and organizations to reach more communities. My legacy will be a combination of innovation, leadership, and a heart for service—a beacon for those who follow. Future Women In STEM Scholarship
My name is Alicia C., and I come from a close-knit Hispanic family that values hard work, perseverance, and community. Growing up in a household of six, I quickly learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and determination. These values have shaped who I am today and have driven me to pursue a career in STEM, where I hope to create meaningful change. One personal experience that truly sparked my interest in STEM happened when I was helping my older sibling with a computer problem at home. At first, I was simply curious about how the computer worked and why it wasn’t functioning properly. Additionally, financial limitations in my family make it difficult to afford the costs associated with advanced courses, exams, and materials. Despite these challenges, my passion for STEM motivates me to persevere and keep pushing forward. This experience and my ongoing commitment to STEM have shaped my career goals. I want to use my education to develop technology that bridges gaps in access to resources, especially for underserved communities. I also hope to mentor younger students, encouraging more girls and minorities to explore STEM and pursue their dreams. In summary, that initial moment of curiosity while fixing a computer opened the door to a lifelong passion for STEM. It has driven me to work hard, overcome challenges, and envision a future where I can use technology to make a positive impact. Female Athleticism Scholarship
Being a female wrestler has taught me more than just how to compete—it’s taught me how to persevere in a world that doesn’t always expect girls to be strong, disciplined, or fearless. Wrestling is a sport often seen as male-dominated, but for me, it’s been the place where I’ve discovered the strength I didn’t always know I had. It has pushed me physically, mentally, and emotionally, while also helping me grow into a confident young woman who knows her worth and power. Balancing wrestling with school, family responsibilities, and community involvement hasn’t been easy. Practices are intense. There are weight classes to maintain, early morning training sessions, and long tournaments that stretch into weekends. But even with this demanding schedule, I’ve remained focused on my education, earning college credits through Running Start while still in high school. I’ve also found time to volunteer—coaching middle schoolers in wrestling and helping out at church events—because I believe that being strong means using your strength to lift others up too. This balancing act has made me resilient and taught me time management, discipline, and emotional control. There were moments I wanted to give up—after a tough loss on the mat, a failed test, or when the pressure of it all felt overwhelming. But each challenge taught me something valuable: how to bounce back, how to prepare better, and most importantly, how to keep going. Being a girl in a sport dominated by boys often meant having to prove myself twice—once for my skills, and once for my right to be there. But instead of letting that intimidate me, I used it as fuel. I didn’t just want to keep up; I wanted to lead. I wanted younger girls watching from the sidelines to say, “If she can do it, I can too.” This experience has shaped my goals beyond high school. I want to pursue a degree in computer science, another field where women are underrepresented, and eventually start my own business. My dream is to use both my technical skills and leadership to create opportunities for others—especially young girls and students from underrepresented communities. I want to show them that they don’t have to fit into anyone’s mold; they can break it and build their own. Wrestling gave me more than medals—it gave me confidence, purpose, and a voice. Balancing it all—school, sport, and service—has helped me become the strong, determined young woman I am today. And I’m just getting started.
Victoria Johnson Minority Women in STEM Scholarship
As a first-generation college student pursuing a career in STEM, the path I’ve chosen is both exciting and challenging. From the moment I discovered my interest in computer science, I knew it was the field where I could make a real impact—solving problems, creating systems, and contributing to innovations that can improve lives. However, pursuing a professional program in STEM is not without its obstacles, especially when it comes to financial strain. The cost of admissions tests, study materials, and application fees is a major concern for me and my family. We are a household of six, supported by hardworking parents who do their best to make ends meet. But these additional educational expenses quickly add up. For example, the cost of preparing for exams like the SAT, ACT, or even future graduate admissions tests like the GRE can be hundreds of dollars when you factor in prep courses, registration fees, and travel. Application fees for college or internships are another hurdle, sometimes preventing me from applying to every opportunity I qualify for. These financial pressures sometimes cause stress that distracts from my academic focus. There have been moments when I’ve had to choose between getting a textbook and helping cover family needs. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to my goals. I plan to earn a degree in computer science, specialize in software development, and eventually launch my own tech company—one that not only drives innovation but opens doors for others from underrepresented communities. Receiving this scholarship would lift a significant burden off my shoulders. It would allow me to afford the resources I need to succeed—study materials, application fees, reliable technology, and even transportation. More importantly, it would let me stay focused on what truly matters: learning, growing, and preparing for a future where I can make a difference. My vision is to give back by mentoring youth who come from backgrounds like mine. I’ve already started by coaching middle school wrestling and volunteering at local events. In the future, I want to create a mentorship program that combines tech education and life skills for students in underserved communities. I want them to see that no matter where you come from, a career in STEM is within reach. This scholarship isn’t just support—it’s a step toward equity. With your help, I can continue walking a path that leads to success, service, and innovation. Thank you for believing in students like me.

Books have always been a quiet guide in my life. They’ve taught me lessons I couldn't always learn in school or from people around me. One book that really shaped my goals is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It taught me that everyone has a personal legend—a purpose they must follow, no matter the obstacles. That idea stuck with me and gave me the courage to dream boldly, even when things got tough. Another book that made a difference is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It helped me see that small changes create big results, something I now apply to everything—wrestling, school, and my goals. I come from a close-knit Hispanic family of six. My parents work hard, and their dedication has taught me the value of sacrifice and commitment. I’m passionate about visual arts and storytelling, and I dream of creating a comic book or TV show that highlights my culture and community, giving younger kids characters they can relate to and learn from. Through art, I want to educate and inspire, not just entertain. One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned came from a failure. I once missed weight for a wrestling match I had trained hard for. I was embarrassed and disappointed, but instead of giving up, I learned how to better manage my time and body. That experience taught me responsibility and discipline—skills I now apply in every part of my life. Mentorship has also played a huge role in who I am today. My wrestling coach believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. He pushed me to be better, not just on the mat, but as a leader and student. That experience showed me how important it is to have someone in your corner—and now I try to do the same for others. I volunteer by coaching middle school wrestlers and helping out at community events, like painting faces at church picnics. Giving back is my way of honoring the support I’ve received. What makes me unique is how I combine creativity and discipline. I have the heart of an artist and the drive of an athlete. I’m proud of my identity, and I use my background to connect with people, create meaningful work, and stay grounded. Whether through visual art, storytelling, or mentorship, I’m committed to making a positive impact. As I continue my education, I hope to grow not just as a student, but as a role model—someone who shows that no matter where you start, with dedication and heart, you can do something great.

My “why” in the world of visual arts and design comes from a deep need to tell stories—stories that inspire, represent underheard voices, and spark emotion. From a young age, art has been the language I’ve used to process the world around me. Whether through sketching characters in the margins of my notebooks or imagining storylines that blend reality with fantasy, I’ve always been drawn to creation not just as a hobby, but as a calling. What motivates me to continue pursuing art—especially in a world transformed by technology—is the belief that creativity still needs a human soul. Tools like AI, digital illustration platforms, and animation software have expanded what’s possible. But even as technology evolves, I believe what truly connects people are the emotions and experiences behind the art. My goal is to blend these new tools with timeless storytelling to create works that feel alive and real. One of my biggest dreams is to create a TV show or comic book series that reflects voices like mine—Hispanic, strong, and filled with layers of tradition, humor, challenge, and love. I want to build characters that my community can see themselves in, especially young girls and teens who may not always feel represented. My show or series would blend hand-drawn art with digital animation, using bold colors and powerful symbolism to reflect identity and heritage, while weaving in relatable modern storylines. As a student of the arts, I want to keep learning new mediums—from digital design to motion graphics—while staying grounded in the roots of raw storytelling. I believe every project should still begin with a sketch, a memory, or an idea born from lived experience. Technology can enhance the work, but it can’t replace the heart behind it. My “why” is to make sure that art doesn’t lose its human touch. I want to remind the world that even with all the advancements in how we create, what we create—and why we create it—still matters most. And that’s the spirit I plan to carry into every piece, every story, and every project I bring to life.
    Individualized Education Pathway Scholarship
Growing up with a learning disability has been one of the biggest challenges in my academic journey. From a young age, I realized that learning didn’t come easily for me. While other students could understand instructions or complete assignments quickly, I often needed more time, different approaches, or extra help. I was placed on an Individualized Education Program (IEP), and while it gave me the support I needed, it also reminded me that I was different. At times, that difference felt discouraging. I questioned whether I was smart enough or capable enough to succeed. One of the biggest challenges I faced was struggling with self-confidence. I sometimes felt embarrassed when I had to leave the classroom for extra help or when I needed accommodations during tests. It was easy to compare myself to other students and feel like I was falling behind. There were days when I felt like giving up or hiding the fact that I had a learning disability. But over time, I began to see things differently. I realized that having an IEP didn’t make me less intelligent—it simply meant I needed to learn in a different way. With the support of amazing teachers, special education staff, and my family, I began to develop tools and strategies that worked for me. I learned how to advocate for myself, ask for what I needed, and stay organized. I also learned the importance of resilience. Every time I faced a setback and kept going, I grew stronger. Wrestling also played a huge role in building my confidence. The discipline, focus, and perseverance I gained on the mat helped me in the classroom as well. Wrestling taught me that progress takes time, and that small improvements add up. It reminded me that hard work can beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard—and that mindset helped me overcome obstacles in both academics and life. What keeps me motivated to continue my education is my desire to prove to myself and others that I am capable of achieving great things. I want to be an example for other students with learning disabilities, especially those who feel discouraged or alone. I want them to know that they are not broken—they just learn differently, and that’s okay. I also want to use my experience to help others. One day, I hope to run my own business and create programs that support students like me. I want to advocate for inclusive education and show the world that success doesn’t have to follow a traditional path. With patience, support, and determination, anything is possible. My learning disability has been a challenge, but it has also been one of my greatest teachers. It taught me to work hard, believe in myself, and never give up. And those lessons will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Growing up in a household with limited financial resources has deeply influenced who I am and the career path I want to pursue. While my parents have worked tirelessly to support our family of six, the reality of living on a tight budget has taught me valuable lessons about resilience, responsibility, and the power of education to change one’s life. Living in a low-income household means that opportunities often come with extra challenges. From an early age, I witnessed my parents making sacrifices—working long hours, managing bills carefully, and prioritizing necessities over wants. Their hard work inspired me but also made me keenly aware of how financial barriers can limit dreams. These experiences have motivated me to pursue a career that not only brings me economic independence but also allows me to help others overcome similar obstacles. Because of my background, I am especially passionate about creating opportunities for people who face economic hardships. I want to build a business that empowers others—especially those from marginalized communities—to find financial freedom and success. Whether through technology, entrepreneurship, or community programs, my goal is to develop solutions that remove barriers and provide real access to education, resources, and support. The challenges my family faced have also strengthened my work ethic and determination. I’ve learned that success requires discipline, persistence, and creativity—qualities I have cultivated through school, athletics, and community service. Wrestling, in particular, taught me how to push past physical and mental limits, how to lead, and how to support others. These skills will be essential as I pursue higher education and build my career. Financial hardship has made me resourceful and appreciative of every opportunity. It also fuels my desire to give back. I don’t want others to feel limited by their circumstances. I believe education and access to technology are powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty, and I am committed to being part of that change. Ultimately, my career aspirations are rooted in my life experiences. I want to become economically independent so I can support my family and contribute meaningfully to my community. I envision starting a company that not only succeeds financially but also prioritizes social impact—creating jobs, mentoring youth, and offering services that promote well-being and growth. Living with financial limitations has shaped my dreams but has never limited my hope or ambition. Instead, it has inspired me to work harder, stay focused, and aim higher. I am ready to face the challenges of higher education and career development with a clear purpose: to build a better future for myself and those who come after me.

My name is Alicia C., and I come from a close-knit Hispanic family where hard work, humility, and compassion are core values. Growing up in a household of six, I’ve always understood the importance of community and supporting one another. My parents work hard to provide for us, and that dedication has taught me to never take opportunities for granted. Their strength inspires me to pursue higher education—not only to better my future, but to give back to the people and communities who have shaped me. Community involvement has always been a part of who I am. I’ve had the privilege of coaching wrestling to middle school students, and this role has allowed me to connect with younger kids in a powerful way. I’ve helped them develop confidence, discipline, and self-respect—values that protect them from peer pressure and bullying. In this safe environment, they learn how to channel emotions positively and support one another like a team. I also volunteer through my church, recently helping at the parish spring picnic where I painted faces for the younger children. These moments remind me how important it is to be present, caring, and a positive role model for youth. As I enter higher education, financial need is a very real challenge. While my parents do everything they can, the cost of tuition, books, housing, and transportation adds up quickly. Scholarships like this one would not only ease the burden on my family but also allow me to focus more on my education and service goals. I’m committed to making the most out of every opportunity, and financial support would empower me to continue my work without being held back by economic stress. One issue that deeply matters to me is keeping youth safe—both in person and online. As someone who’s seen peers suffer the effects of bullying and cyberbullying, I make it a priority to create safe spaces wherever I go. I talk openly with the students I coach about respect, boundaries, and kindness. I also use social media thoughtfully, promoting messages of self-love, empowerment, and awareness. I’ve learned that sometimes a simple positive post or supportive comment can make a huge difference in someone’s day. If I see or hear about online bullying, I don’t stay silent—I speak up, offer support, and help connect people to trusted adults or resources. In the future, I hope to combine my passion for tech and community to create platforms or workshops that teach digital safety and emotional intelligence to youth. My goal is to empower the next generation to be kind, confident, and informed—on and off the screen. Through every step, I carry my community with me. I know who I am, where I come from, and what I want to change. With the help of this scholarship, I can take the next step toward becoming a leader, advocate, and protector for the people who need it most.

Wrestling has been one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my life. It’s more than just a sport to me—it’s an experience that has shaped my character, mindset, and future goals. From the moment I stepped onto the mat, I realized that wrestling wasn’t just about physical strength. It required mental toughness, discipline, focus, and heart. Wrestling has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Every practice, every match, and every loss taught me something important—not only about competition but about life. I learned how to be patient with myself, how to handle pressure, and how to stay determined even when the odds felt stacked against me. Wrestling doesn’t allow you to hide; it teaches you to face challenges head-on, to work harder than anyone else, and to keep going even when it hurts. That mindset has shaped who I am both on and off the mat. As a student-athlete, I’ve learned to balance academics, training, and personal life. It’s taught me time management, responsibility, and how to set goals and work toward them step by step. I’ve also developed leadership skills by supporting my teammates and, most recently, coaching middle schoolers in wrestling. That experience reminded me how much I love helping others grow and believe in themselves. Watching young wrestlers gain confidence and skill because of my guidance has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey. Moving forward, I want to continue using my wrestling background to make an impact. I’m passionate about mentoring younger athletes, especially girls who may feel like they don’t belong in such a physically demanding and competitive sport. Wrestling helped me become confident, assertive, and resilient—and I want to help other young people experience that same transformation. Whether through coaching, running clinics, or creating fitness and mindset programs, I want to give back to the sport that gave so much to me. Wrestling also inspires me in my future career goals. It has strengthened my leadership, my work ethic, and my ability to stay calm under pressure—all of which I will carry into my professional life. Whether I’m running a business or working in tech, I’ll continue to bring the same energy, discipline, and dedication that wrestling taught me. Wrestling has helped me become the person I am today—strong, driven, and committed to growth. It gave me confidence, community, and purpose. And even when I eventually leave the mat, the lessons I’ve learned from the sport will stay with me for life.

The biggest influence in my life has been my older sister. From a young age, she saw something in me that I hadn’t yet recognized in myself. She encouraged every sketch, poem, and creative idea I had. She never let me give up on my art, even when I felt discouraged or unsure. Her encouragement helped me realize that art is not just a hobby—it’s a powerful way to express identity, emotion, and hope. Growing up in a Hispanic household, art quickly became a way for me to celebrate my culture and process my experiences. I began painting and writing poetry as a way to explore my thoughts and emotions. Whether I was feeling joy, sadness, or hope, art gave me a voice. What makes my work different is how personal it is. I incorporate vibrant colors, symbolic imagery, and words—sometimes in Spanish—that reflect my roots, family, and dreams. Each piece tells a story that connects to something deeper within me and, hopefully, within others too. Art has helped me in many ways. It has been a place of peace when life felt overwhelming. It has taught me patience, resilience, and the power of reflection. Through my creative process, I’ve learned how to communicate beyond words and connect with people emotionally. These are skills I now use not only in my artwork but also in my relationships, leadership roles, and community involvement. After I graduate, I plan to use my artistic skills in innovative ways. I want to blend creativity with technology to inspire and uplift others—especially young people from underrepresented communities. One of my dreams is to build a business that focuses on self-love, culture, and empowerment through art and storytelling. Whether that’s through online platforms, art-based products, or community events, I want to create spaces where people can feel seen, valued, and inspired. I also see myself leading creative workshops or digital art programs that help others discover their artistic voices. Art has the power to heal and unite, and I want to share that with the world. I believe my gift stands out not just because of the style or technique, but because of the heart and intention behind every piece I create. My art comes from a place of love, struggle, culture, and growth—and I believe that’s what makes it meaningful. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but art has remained a constant. It reminds me of who I am and where I’m going. It has helped me build confidence, celebrate my identity, and dream beyond limitations. With every painting and poem, I carry the influence of my sister, my culture, and my desire to make a difference. Attached are some photos of my artwork—each one holds a part of my story and represents the kind of impact I hope to make through my creativity.
Diane Amendt Memorial Scholarship for the Arts
Growing up, arts education has been more than just an extracurricular activity—it’s been a source of healing, self-expression, and identity. Whether through painting, poetry, or creative writing, the arts gave me a voice during moments when words were hard to find. In a busy household of six and with all of life’s responsibilities, I found comfort and space in the creative process. Art became my outlet, a safe space where I could reflect, dream, and grow. From a young age, I loved drawing and painting. I remember spending hours sketching after school, using whatever I had—pencils, markers, even scraps of old notebooks. My imagination had no limits, and that freedom gave me confidence in a world where so much felt outside of my control. Later, I discovered poetry and writing, which allowed me to channel my thoughts and emotions into something meaningful. Writing gave me the courage to explore deeper parts of myself and connect with others on a more emotional level. One of the most inspiring people in my artistic journey has been my older sister. She always encouraged me to keep creating, no matter what. She saw something in me even when I doubted myself. Whether I was painting for fun or writing short poems, she would ask to see my work and proudly share it with our family. Her support made me believe that what I created mattered—that my voice mattered. That encouragement pushed me to stay connected to the arts even when I was busy with school or sports. Arts education also taught me discipline and perseverance. Whether it was finishing a large painting or editing a poem until it felt just right, I learned the value of patience, process, and commitment. These are lessons I now carry into every part of my life—from academics and athletics to community involvement. It’s also helped me build deeper empathy. Creating and appreciating art opens your heart to different experiences, cultures, and perspectives, which is something I now use to connect with others. Today, I continue to express myself through writing, especially poetry. I use my words to inspire and motivate others through social media and community spaces. Sharing my work has helped me build confidence and reminded me that art is not just about talent—it’s about connection, intention, and heart. Art has truly shaped who I am. It’s given me a way to cope, to reflect, and to speak up. It has helped me stay grounded and hopeful, even during hard times. More importantly, it’s reminded me that creativity lives in all of us—we just need the space and support to let it shine. I hope to one day create that space for others, just like it was created for me.
