Driven by a deep passion for the medical field, specifically sonography, my life's mission is to become a successful, independent woman capable of providing for both myself and my family. While the path to education in this field can be financially challenging, I am committed to achieving financial freedom, allowing me to concentrate wholeheartedly on my studies.

The unexpected moments in life have the power to shape us in ways we could never anticipate. In my Sophomore year of high school, life hit a huge curveball. My big sister was diagnosed with stage four Colon Cancer. During this time, I had to leave the only home I knew, with my single mother, and move in with my grandma so that my sister had a place to stay when she returned to America. It was a difficult transition. My mother was my home, my sense of clarity. I didn't know how to be fully independent and deal with the cloud of fear hovering over my head for my sister's wellbeing.
As my sister's health declined, my mental health went down along with it. I battled with anxiety and depression, wondering if life was even worth living if I didn’t experience the rest of it with her. I saw no purpose in moving forward, as I feared each day would be the last one with her. This experience stunted my growth not only as a student but also as an individual.
Following the summer into junior year, I realized that even if my sister couldn't win her battle, it was important for me to continue the battle of life itself in her honor. In my new perception of life, I worked on myself physically and mentally. Making it to the varsity volleyball team along with joining multiple clubs, was a huge turning point for me as a student because I was putting myself back out there and finally being able to enjoy my high school experience.
When I visited my sister after her first surgery, I noticed the environment of the unit she was in and the countless patients there dealing with their health issues as well. I felt the brisk air hit my skin as I walked down the hall; a wave of negativity hit me as I walked into her room. At that moment I realized how badly I wanted to help them all, but I wasn’t sure how I could as a person that never had a passion for anything. As I did my research, I found a deep calling in the medical field. I decided to apply to a program that focused on the medical field. I went into this program with an open mind because I was still undecided on what my calling truly was. During this experience, I came across sonography. Sonography fascinated me the most because it is a non-invasive approach to viewing organs and fetuses. This fascination, intertwined with my passion for patient care, guided me toward pursuing this career.
My journey has been marked by both adversity and growth. The news of my sister’s diagnosis was a turning point in my life, forcing me to confront my fear of losing her, anxiety, and depression all at once. In time, I began to understand the value of resilience and hope. Her determination to keep fighting served as a powerful example for me. I learned to find hope in even the darkest moments. This is a valuable lesson that has guided my journey since.
