My goals in life, well it's anyone’s goal in life, to become successful. I want to major in Biology in college in order to become a pediatric doctor. Working hard all these years and not being granted something that will further my education will be frustrating. I have always been that social butterfly in the room that loves to make everyone happy, but never got the same in return. Life is too short to not take any opportunities.

Sikdope “Music Is The Cure” Scholarship
Being born in the Dominican Republic, In "La Capital, " and learning Spanish as my first language was obviously normal until I moved to the United States. I moved to the United States at a young age, didn't think much of it, and just thought that everyone around me had spoken in Spanish. That was until I heard so much speaking of words I couldn't understand, "Is it gibberish?", I thought to myself. I had asked my mom what they were speaking and told me, "mi hija, hablan ingles."
Elementary school was the first step into speaking English. I started speaking English and kids made fun of me for my accent. I would cry when I went home but that didn't stop me from wanting to learn the most common language around. Learning English in the United States is something that has to be learned for more job opportunities and being able to understand things in your everyday life around you. I am glad I learned English at a young age because now I speak and write amazingly.
Music is a big factor in my life and I loved playing the guitar and singing. I started singing at 7 years old and never stopped. The first song I sang was "Toxic" by Brittney Spears. Music is how it's said to be, it's therapy and it makes me happy. It plays a big role in learning a language and that is because the more you replay it the more you know the words. I would replay my favorite songs all day and sing along like if I was in at a concert.
I want to study in a US college so English is what I am proud of learning because now I know how to write, read, and speak it. I wouldn't be the same if I hadn't learned English because you truly never know the opportunities you get just by learning a language. I would be struggling to ask for certain things and being made fun of by American kids in school. I will never regret having English as my second language because it helped me in my life.
I hope that the people who are out there and know English will teach other people whose first language isn't English how to read, write, and speak it. Also, Help someone else be able to achieve their dreams in this country. This will bring people together and have everyone share their knowledge. My dream for the future is to become a doctor, something that will make me and my family proud. I am glad to be bilingual, for this opportunity is something I cannot give up.
