Reasons for Enrolling in My Current Program
I chose to enroll in my current program because I am passionate about education and committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. My goal is to deepen my knowledge in educational leadership and equity to create more inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of diverse student populations. Pursuing this program aligns with my aspiration to open a daycare center tailored to English Language Learners (ELL) and students with disabilities, as it equips me with the skills and strategies to design effective programs and advocate for systemic change in education.
Additionally, being a first-generation college graduate, I am determined to break barriers and inspire others in my community to pursue higher education. This program offers the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for teaching, my desire for leadership, and my vision for equitable access to education.
How Acquired Knowledge Will Benefit Society
The knowledge and skills I gain from this program will directly benefit society by allowing me to develop and implement educational initiatives that address the needs of underserved communities. Through evidence-based strategies, I aim to create programs that reduce learning disparities and support students who often face systemic barriers. Specifically, I plan to:
Establish a daycare center that provides inclusive, culturally responsive care for ELL students and students with disabilities.
Advocate for policies that improve access to early childhood education for low-income families.
Mentor future educators to prioritize equity and inclusivity in their classrooms.
My goal is to empower students and families, ensuring that every child—regardless of background or ability—has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By fostering a culture of belonging and empowerment, I hope to contribute to building stronger, more equitable communities.
Impact of Working While Being a College Student
Balancing work and college has been both challenging and transformative. As a teacher, I bring real-world experiences into my studies, allowing me to connect theory with practice. However, managing a full-time job while pursuing higher education requires significant time management and resilience.
This balancing act has taught me the value of perseverance and resourcefulness. It has also deepened my empathy for students who juggle multiple responsibilities, reinforcing my commitment to creating supportive environments for learners of all ages. Despite the challenges, working while studying has strengthened my resolve to succeed and has fueled my passion for making a lasting impact in education.
Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Scholarship
As a dedicated teacher, I have always been passionate about creating inclusive and nurturing environments where every child feels valued and supported. I love everything about teaching and learning. My aspiration to open a daycare center stems from my experiences working with English Language Learners (ELL) and students with disabilities. I’ve witnessed the profound impact of tailored educational support on their development and confidence, and I want to extend that foundation to younger children during their most formative years. Early childhood is a critical period for growth and learning, and I believe that all children deserve a strong start in an environment that celebrates their individuality and unique needs.
My vision is to establish a daycare center that provides culturally responsive care and personalized learning opportunities. For ELL students, this means creating an environment where their native languages and cultures are embraced while simultaneously supporting their acquisition of English through play, songs, and structured activities. For children with disabilities, the center would provide sensory-friendly spaces, adaptive tools, and inclusive programming to ensure they thrive alongside their peers. My goal is to foster a sense of belonging for every child while bridging gaps in access to quality early education for underrepresented families.
My interest in entrepreneurship grew from the realization that meaningful change often requires innovation and leadership beyond the traditional classroom. As a first-generation college graduate and someone who has faced obstacles in achieving my own goals, I deeply understand the barriers that underresourced families encounter. I want my daycare center to be more than just a business; I envision it as a community hub where families can access resources, support, and advocacy. This center would empower parents by offering workshops, connecting them with local services, and providing a network of encouragement.
The inspiration for this business idea comes not only from my work as a teacher but also from my experiences as a single mother. I understand the challenges of balancing work, education, and parenting, especially when resources feel out of reach. My personal journey fuels my commitment to creating a space where parents feel confident their children are cared for and nurtured.
Through this daycare center, I hope to create a lasting impact—one that uplifts children, empowers families, and strengthens communities. By combining my educational expertise with entrepreneurial innovation, I aim to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or ability, has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
Francis E. Moore Prime Time Ministries Scholarship
My educational goals are rooted in the belief that knowledge has the power to transform lives, especially for those who are disproportionately underresourced. I aim to complete my degree and further my expertise to work in fields that advocate for equity, provide access to quality education, and address systemic injustices that perpetuate cycles of poverty and incarceration.
Having a brother who is incarcerated has profoundly shaped my perspective. It has shown me firsthand how societal inequities, lack of resources, and limited opportunities can impact individuals and families. His experience has deepened my resolve to use my education to break these cycles—whether by creating programs that support marginalized communities, advocating for criminal justice reform, or mentoring young people to help them see pathways outside of systemic barriers.
Achieving my educational goals is not just personal; it’s a way to honor my brother’s struggles and create opportunities for others like him. It’s about building bridges where walls once stood, ensuring that no one is defined by their past, and inspiring others to see education as a powerful tool for liberation and hope.

Professor Harold Bloom’s statement, “The purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence,” can be understood as the act of helping students realize their unique value, individuality, and potential. It emphasizes the transformative role of teaching in awakening a student’s self-awareness and confidence. For special education students, this sense of presence is often about recognizing their strengths, celebrating their individuality, and empowering them to navigate the world with dignity and pride.
As a special education teacher, my mission is to guide students toward self-awareness and independence by creating an environment where their abilities, rather than their challenges, take center stage. My approach involves:
Fostering a Strength-Based Perspective: Recognizing and building on each student’s strengths to instill confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
Cultivating Empathy and Understanding: Creating a classroom culture where differences are not just accepted but celebrated.
Empowering with Tools: Equipping students with strategies, skills, and resources that promote their autonomy and help them advocate for themselves.
Encouraging Expression: Providing opportunities for students to share their voices, whether through art, technology, or communication tools, to help them feel seen and heard.
Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that each student feels not only present in the classroom but also capable of making meaningful contributions to their communities.
A Brief Fairy Tale: The Heroine Who Saw Every Star Shine
Once upon a time, in the quiet village of Lumina, there lived a young teacher named Alexus, known for her ability to see potential where others saw limitations. She worked in a school tucked away at the edge of the forest, a place filled with children who carried unique challenges and gifts, much like stars—each shining differently in the night sky.
One day, a great fog descended upon the village. The fog was so thick that the children could no longer see their reflections in the river, nor their shadows on the ground. They began to feel invisible, doubting their value and their ability to shine.
Determined to bring back their light, Alexus set out on a quest to the Peak of Clarity, where the magical Lantern of Presence was said to glow. This lantern, legend claimed, had the power to help people see themselves as they truly were.
The journey was treacherous. Alexus had to cross the River of Comparison, where voices whispered doubts:
"You’ll never be as strong as others.”
"Why even try when others are faster, smarter, better?”
With courage and empathy, Alexus silenced the voices, remembering the lessons her students had taught her about resilience. She whispered back, “Every star shines differently, and the night is beautiful because of it.”
Finally, she reached the Peak of Clarity and lit the Lantern of Presence. As its warm glow spread, the fog lifted, and Alexus hurried back to the village. When she returned, she shared the light with her students. One by one, they gazed into the lantern’s glow and saw themselves—not as broken or incomplete, but as whole, capable, and radiant.
From that day on, the village of Lumina flourished, for the children not only saw their own light but helped others see theirs too. Alexus became known as the Star-Guide, a heroine who taught her students to embrace their presence and share their brilliance with the world.
