      Sylvester Taylor Hospitality Scholarship
I envision using my passion for hospitality as a way to create meaningful, lasting impacts by turning everyday service interactions into experiences where people feel genuinely seen, welcomed, and valued. To me, hospitality is more than hotels, food, and travel. It is a form of human connection that has the power to shape how someone feels during important moments in their life's, whether they are traveling, celebrating, or simply seeking comfort away from home. My experience working in hospitality, from front desk and night audit roles in a hotel setting, to volunteering to setup meeting spaces, and events, has shown me how much small details matter. I've learned how to stay composed under pressure, solve problems quickly, and still maintain a warm and professional presence. These experiences taught me that guests rarely remember every operational detail, but they always remember how they were treated. Having this understanding is what fuels my passion to grow in this industry. Working directly in hotels has given me a clear understanding of what guest appreciate and don't appreciate. I've seen how certain policies can sometimes limit what staff are able to do, even when the goal is to create the best possible guest experience. It can be challenging when you want to fully resolve guest concerns but have to operate within strict guidelines. At the same time, I understand those rules exist for structure and consistency. This experience shaped my goal of becoming a hotel owner, where I can design policies that balance business needs with flexibility, empathy, and guest satisfaction, creating an environment that strives to meet guest needs and exceed expectations. I am inspired by Sylvester Taylor's legacy of excellence, service and authenticity, particularly his long career with Walt Disney World Resort. His dedication to creating positive experiences and being recognized for outstanding service reflects the kind of impact I want to have. As I continue my studies in marketing with a focus on hospitality, I want to merge creativity with service. My goal is to help hospitality brands not only attract guests, but also communicate values like inclusion, cultural awareness, and sustainability. I believe marketing plays a powerful role in shaping how companies are perceived, and I want to use that influence to highlight ethical and guest-centered practices within the industry. Ultimately, I envision myself contributing to a hospitality environment by creating spaces where people from all backgrounds feel respected and cared for. Whether through hotel leadership, guest experience design, or hospitality marketing strategy, I want to help create spaces that feel welcoming and intention. I also hope to mentor others entering the field, especially students who may not always see themselves represented in leadership roles. This scholarship would support my journey by easing financial stress and allowing me to focus more deeply on developing the skills, and experiences needed to grow in this field. With it, I will continue building toward a career dedicated to meaningful service, strong leadership, and impactful guest experiences that reflect the true spirit of hospitality.
