My experience being a teen mom has impacted my educational journey and goals because knowing that I have a little baby relying on me to provide financially and emotionally for them pushes me to go the furthest that I can and once I am there push even further. My son is the sole reason for me wanting a career in nursing because I know that as a nurse I have the knowledge and ability to help those in need in a time of emergency including my family. A nursing degree would allow me to be financially stable to provide for my son and also I will have the ability to work nights, which means my days can just consist of spending time with my son. Nursing is probably one of the hardest career choices that are a challenge to obtain but at the end of the finish line, it will all be worth it. Being a "teen mom" puts a label on you for life. People will always make assumptions on your character due to having a child at a young age. Unfortunately, my family has made many assumptions based off my choices. What was once a bright scholar is now just a mom to a little boy. This is what defines me now, and at times I can be embarrassed and I don't tell many people that I have a baby. I will be the proof that having a child at a young age does not define you for life and does not tarnish your ability to have an education. Continuing my education will prove to me and my family of my abilities. Having a child at a young age does not define me or hold me back. My mom was a teen mom and she never went to college and now is struggling in life just as many before and after her. I want to be an example used to show other teen moms in the future that having a baby does not mean the end of the world for you. I am in school to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and am currently in my second semester and I plan on graduating here and going back to school to get my bachelors in Nursing within the next 2 years. I am currently in the works of making my dreams a reality and I know for a fact that this is what is for me. I want to make my son proud and show him what can be done if you really put your whole being into your work.
