I am an undocumented student who has pushed myself to excel in high school. I have doubled up in classes and have taken AP and college courses from different institutes while in high school. I am highly active in various extracurricular activities on my school campus. I have many leadership roles and I participate in activities outside the classroom such as the Boone County Youth Leadership Program. I plan to become a Certified Public Accountant. I want to be as successful as I possibly can so I can give back to my family and those who have helped me get to where I am now. One of my personal life goals is to help future students, like myself, achieve higher education without ever having to worry about money. I want to make the world a better place for all who are trying their best to succeed.

American Dream Scholarship
My parents immigrated to the United States of America because they believed in the American Dream. They wanted nothing more but a brighter future for my siblings and me. I used to think that the American Dream meant that you were free and you could be anybody you wanted to be. However, as I grew older and I began to understand the world more, I realized that it is so much more than that. The American Dream, to me, is the idea of leaving behind your old home and coming into a new place to call home. The American Dream is something that everyone wants and many have made tremendous sacrifices to achieve it, but not all understand what it means.
I believe that the American Dream is like a bag of Skittles, you want every single bit of it. The American Dream is the concept that anyone in the United States regardless of background, ethnicity, religion, race, gender, age, citizenship status, and sexual orientation can achieve anything they want as long as they put their heart into it. I have been putting my heart into every single thing I do. I have been putting forth countless hours of volunteer time, as well as time for work and studying. Truly understanding the American Dream means that you are going to put forth all your efforts so you can become as successful as possible so you can support your parents for all the sacrifices they have made and to help those in the future that are also seeking that sweet American Dream.
Going to a small school with no resources for undocumented students nearby has made it extremely difficult to believe that I could go to college but once we could afford to have internet I began to search and read inspiring stories from so many people like me who are achieving that American Dream. I now feel confident in myself to go to college and achieve many great things. I want to be able to show everyone what the American Dream truly means to all of us, undocumented students. It means that we finally have a chance to build a better future for our families, ourselves, and the community that welcomed us with open arms.
If I were to define the American Dream with one word it would be "Surreal." Being a part of a loving community where you know you are safe and have the opportunity to be whoever you want despite your background is an absolute dream come true for many of us immigrants. It finally gives us the chance to show the world that we are capable of achieving great things and making the world a better place, and I plan to do just that.
