A word I can use to describe my art would be whimsy stuff that exists in imagination but I would also say that my work is something i enjoy making work that resonates with people. As a student studying in ceramics, with vessels being the focus at the school Kcai Kansas City art institute. I enjoy making art with a function using nature, pop culture, and architecture as inspirations. I'm inspired by the world's molecular structure and the organicness of nature's things that surround us but also finding beauty in what surrounds us. As a person who enjoys traveling and getting out of my comfort zone, my experiences shape and help cultivate my body of work. The permanence of ceramic is also something that pulls me into the medium as what I’m making could very well be around for centuries. Creating something that could very well last thousands of years and even then still be contributing a use would and be something I would greatly like even if my name as an artist survives or not the same length of time. And through my practice though still in its infancy has led me to being able to travel to different areas to study form, shape, glazing, and also the process of making which is thanks partly to my school I’m also able to connect with other creatives as it is important to have outside inputs and insights that can shed light onto the work in different ways. My focus in my work though is function but also in how it can be used in conservation. My favorite piece is one where I built stackable planters where plants could bud out in many different orifices ( I included this photo in application with the name of face planters), a concept in which I plan to grow as something that can become its own sustainable ecosystem. That way it can be used to help sustain native plant life and ecosystems. Which has led to opportunities at school to further my research though I need help to financially pursue those opportunities. I also have opportunities to use software like CAD and rhino within my degree program that allows me to use inventive methods of creating forms. And I plan to use this knowledge I gathered in school to help me in my career in ceramics and conservation. Through residencies and apprenticeships I want to create work that speaks to people but is also something that can outlast on the planet

The world is so vast that our individual experiences are so different in how we take in the world and interpret it. So when approaching the question of how it inspires me I look at my own individual experience and what I've done so far with my work. When looking at my current journey and how I've evolved from previous work my work has gotten more vibrant in colors and textures. So when reflecting back to how the world around me is shaping and inspiring me. I always look at nature when that question is being asked. This is definitely seen in my work as I've taken a lot of themes and context in the world of nature and how it can be used functionally in some aspects. This can be seen in the images I've submitted that show a few pieces of my work which I felt ties into this prompt and my thought process quite nicely. My medium is quite three dimensional which i feel reflects how when i work i have to think more in the 3d world of things. Even when thinking of things abstractly like the emotions that I want to come off a piece so I always reflect on how I want that to be conversed through expression but also in the position of how it sits. So when in this process of making I always have to take time thinking of the object I'm making and see it in a three dimensional way. what depth is created and how do I want it to be seen? As a ceramic artist I always interact or look at many different things and textures of the things that inspired me to create in the first place.

I plan to create a positive impact by helping to build my community. In my own experiences I have participated in events where we help high school students decide what's next after graduation and other outreaches to middle schools to share the creative gene. One outreach I help coordinate with shows the importance of documentation and photographing work. Beyond the classroom I participated in community events such as art in the park and whimmydiddle that brought awareness to the art community while helping small businesses. In the future I plan to continue being a part of the community in those ways but also in my own art I plan to bring awareness to the world we live in and how important it is that instead of taking from the planet we should give back and enrich it. By bringing awareness within the community, in turn that community can bring change.
