Bio

I am a hardworking and motivated high school student focused on building a successful future. I stay involved in both academics and extracurricular activities, including sports, which have taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Outside of school, I have experience babysitting and volunteering in my community, including at a hospital and a homeless shelter. These experiences have helped me become more responsible and shown me the importance of helping others. I plan to pursue a career in healthcare, starting as a CNA, because I am passionate about making a positive impact in people’s lives. I am dedicated to my goals and willing to work hard to achieve them, and this scholarship would help me take the next step toward my future.

    Mark D. Schwarck Memorial Scholarship
When I was seven years old, my father passed away. I didn’t fully understand the impact at the time, but life changed instantly. I had to grow up faster than most kids, taking on responsibilities I had never imagined and learning how to support my family while still trying to be a child. Simple routines I once depended on such as having lunch packed, guidance from a parent, or a trusted role model were gone, and I had to adapt. That loss forced me to develop resilience, empathy, and accountability at an age when most children are still learning basic independence. Experiencing such a monumental loss early in life shaped everything I do. I learned to notice when others are struggling and to offer support whenever I can, because I know how much even small acts of kindness can mean. I attend school with focus and determination, striving to excel academically despite balancing personal responsibilities, sports, and family obligations. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA while staying involved in basketball, volleyball, and preparing for my future career is challenging, but it has strengthened my work ethic and my ability to manage multiple priorities. This journey also taught me the importance of making the most of every opportunity. I know firsthand how quickly life can change and how important it is to pursue goals with determination. Losing my father was the hardest experience I have faced, but it motivated me to become independent, disciplined, and driven to succeed. It also inspired me to help others navigate their challenges, whether through guidance, volunteering, or pursuing a career in healthcare where I can make a visible difference in people’s lives. My plans to make a difference in the world are found in the lessons I learned from my own experiences. I hope to use the resilience, empathy, and responsibility I have developed to positively impact others by supporting individuals who are facing hardships, advocating for people in need, and creating opportunities for growth in my community. I want to show others that even when life is difficult, it is possible to respond with strength and compassion and to turn challenges into motivation for helping others. The obstacles I have overcome are not just moments of difficulty but they are the foundation of who I am. They have taught me that true strength comes not from avoiding challenges, but from learning, growing, and using those lessons to create positive change. I am committed to continuing my education at the University of Iowa, where I plan to study Pre-Dentistry. My goal is to become a pediatric dentist and make a difference in the lives of children. I want to use Mark D. Schwarck as a role model and inspire others through dedication and impact. I hope to follow and leave my mark wherever I decide to go.
