WinnerDear Committee,
I am writing to express my enthusiasm for the opportunity to attend college. As I reflect on my journey and the challenges I have overcome, I am reminded of the perseverance and resilience I developed at a young age, qualities that have shaped me into the individual I am today and will continue to guide me as a student. When I was in the first grade, I faced one of the earliest and most significant obstacles of my life: I failed. For a child, failure at such a foundational stage of education can feel like an insurmountable setback, and at the time, it did for me. I struggled academically and emotionally, and it was difficult to understand my potential when the world seemed to highlight only my shortcomings.Being so young and feeling like a failure impacted my life so much, but I was dedicated and never stopped encouraging myself for the better.Throughout my years of school I've always communicated with teachers, counselors I was told that it was impossible for me to be in my right grade. As a young child that taught me that I have to continue believing in myself and advocating for myself.Teachers and tutors of mine doubted me and told my mother that I wouldn't succeed in public schooling. So as I moved my way up in grade levels I proved my dedication ,I began to approach learning with a sense of determination & curiosity.
Last year 2024 I talked with my counselor regarding me wanting to graduate on time & I'm very happy that I ended up at a school that cares for its students success. We scheduled a meeting to speak with my principal on February 26th,2025 & being heard from my principal and my counselor Ms.Moore was such a blessing to me. However, that experience taught me a lesson far more valuable than any grade could measure: success is not about how many times you stumble; it’s about how you rise after each fall. The challenges I faced taught me to work harder, to ask for help when I needed it, and to never give up on my goals.I carried these lessons with me through middle and high school, achieving milestones I never thought possible. Along the way, I also developed a deep sense of empathy and a desire to uplift others who might be struggling, just as I once was.As I look to the future, I look forward to continuing my journey. During my senior year Ive volunteered , I have volunteered for NewsomePark Elementary directing the students and making activities, at the food back where we made 300 plus boxes of canned good for families & co hosted an event called "Cocoa, cookies and conversation", I spoke with local business women in various aspects of business questions on what made them start or how. hese experiences have left me with knowledge, connection & recognition. I'm majoring in psychology. I chose this field of study due to my interest in helping others and simply caring about the importance of mental health. Helping others heal and learning new ways to improve your well being is my passion. My goals for the future are to continue my fitness journey, make plus size fashion, publish my poetry and to continue to focus on my academics.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. This scholarship will help fund my academic career.I hope to bring my passion for growth and perseverance to the college and look forward to the opportunity to make a meaningful impact as a student and future alumnus.
Sincerely,
Alexis J Davis
