Bio

My name is Alexis E. Chandler. I am a single mother of a wonderful son, who keeps me motivated and on my toes. I am pursuing a career in law and to obtain my J.D. and Masters within 4 years. I have not always had it easy, but I have always made it work. I have been able to start my career as a paralegal and be able to help students as a volunteer and in my work. I am set to go to the University of Maryland Carey School of Law starting in Fall 2023 and plan to dual enroll in my second year to obtain my Masters with my J.D. My ultimate goal is to touch, encourage, influence, and be a positive force anywhere I go. My past gives me a different outlook on situations, which can bring more ideas and solutions. I can make a difference. I will make a difference. It never mattered where or how I grew up. It only mattered what I made of it.

Initially, I had my plan set, and I would attend college as a Business Administration major and then continue to law school. Well, my plans changed one year after my best summer. I got pregnant. Alexis Chandler, the varsity basketball and soccer team captain, the student government class treasurer, the AP student, and the ranking county track long-distance runner, got pregnant during her senior year of high school. I could have said forget my dreams, but my motivation and mind would not let me. I put my head down and went to school anyway I aim to be a strong force and voice in my community when I become an attorney. I have spent every year since I graduated high school volunteering at my former school to influence students and be there when they need me positively. I want to make a difference after becoming licensed to practice and every step of the way. I want to open mentorships for those with a passion who may need to be on the right path or need a little extra push. I aim to continue giving students an excellent education no matter their home circumstances. This is what shaped me to this day, my educational foundation. Working inside Montgomery County Public Schools has only zoned me in on what I want out of life and what I want to give back. For many students, school is the getaway. I aim to continue giving students an excellent education no matter their home circumstances. This is what shaped me to this day, my educational foundation. I want to service students in their academic capacity. For many students, like adolescent self, school is the getaway. The getaway is to eat, feel free of worries, engage with others, and feel like your world is not worthless. My schools were always my getaway. At school, I could eat, feel like I wasn’t struggling, and have a voice. I was the varsity basketball and soccer team captain, student government class treasurer, an AP student, and ranking county track long-distance runner. There I felt like I star. I was fortunate enough to have had a mom-like mentor in high school. She was the voice of Suitland High School. She advocated for students to staff and staff for students. She was amazing. My trademark will be like hers: a confidante, a mom, a trusted employee, and the voice for my community. My perseverance has always made me stand apart from any other person. These characteristics have been able to get me through any problem I have faced. They have led me to foster great relationships, connect with others, and help me feel accomplished and worthy. My positive attitude and continued commitment would positively influence the world, so I have chosen to get a law degree and a master’s in education and policy. My ultimate goal is to touch, encourage, influence, and be a positive force anywhere I go. My past gives me a different outlook on situations, which can bring more ideas and solutions. I can make a difference. I will make a difference. It never mattered where or how I grew up. It only mattered what I made of it
