Being involved in my community is extremely important to me. I have a giving heart, and the Lord has called me to be a servant to my community. Simply being able to put a smile on my community’s face is what inspires me to serve. One of my favorite qualities that I have is my smile. Lighting up a room is something that I am proud to say that I do often! If I can be a light for my community as well, my heart is at peace. It is one of my top priorities to make an impact on my community at any chance I get. This past spring, I was given an opportunity to coach a team of 4 year olds as they started their journey as soccer stars! At first, it was honestly terrifying. Trying to keep little minds focused while also teaching them the basic skills of soccer is more challenging than you think! However, being put into such a pressured position has inclined my leadership skills. It has forced me to become an individual who can confidently take control of a situation and make it productive. Along with managing the efficiency of practices and games, I also had to be sure I was being a role model for the little eyes and hearts looking up to me. Being a person of character for these kids to look up to is something I take pride in. Not only did these kids value me as a coach, but the family and community respected the time and effort I took to coach these stars. I was beyond honored to be able to positively impact those kids and their families in such a special way. I hold myself to high standards, and I am confident that my personal standards were portrayed through the work of coaching. American Sign Language plays a huge part in my life. Starting freshman year, I have taken ASL as my language credit. To say the least, it was the best decision I could have made. I have learned all about Deaf culture, many signs, and how to communicate with a Deaf individual fluently. I joined an organization called “Signing Indians” in my second year of high school. This is a group of highly skilled ASL students at my school. I have used my skills and knowledge of this special language to interpret choir concerts and the national anthem at sports events. However, my favorite has to be interpreting the national anthem. There is something about standing on our stadium turf, looking up into the stands, and signing the beautiful words of the national anthem. I have seen this simple love of mine positively impact the community in many ways. It gives me chances to share my love for Deaf culture and ASL. With my teacher being Deaf, her heart swells every time she watches us sharing awareness and our hearts for this special language. I have brought a positive change to my community, and I influence it through being a light to others. I am convinced that my light will share to others and the world. Upon entering the world of college life, I hope to uphold a position where I can impact the community wherever I go. Furthermore, I intend on being a NICU physician. With that, I have to remain a positive leader. I hope to encourage families at their best and sensitively support families at their lows as their doctor. I have been blessed with a servant’s heart, and I intend to keep serving my fellow citizens.

My name is Alexis Blotner, and I am a senior in high school in the small southeast Texas town of Port Neches! I have been a varsity soccer all 4 years of my career, involved in the American Sign Language community at my school, Student Body Secretary, a volleyball player for 2 years, and it is an understatement for me to say that I adore every single thing that I do. I am sensitive, kind-hearted, devoted, confident, and a woman who loves Jesus. One of my favorite things to do is go to the beach.
