Education has always been a top priority for me. I am currently enrolled at the University of the Incarnate Word, and majoring in Psychology. I knew that no matter what career path I took, I wanted to help others. I believe with pursuing higher education, I will be able to better myself, become aware and more knowledgeable, and help others. I want to become a child psychologist; I want to advocate for others. By pursuing higher education, I can do just that. It will take time and a lot of hard work, but I am absolutely certain this is what I want to do.
I am part of my University's Psychology Club. It is a general extracurricular that all Psychology majors are invited in. This past school year, I was able to join Zoom calls to be informed on different psychology subjects, upcoming events, and how to become more involved with the Psychology field. I also volunteer at a local Private school in my area for the lunches, after-school program, and even volunteered this summer at their day camp. I am also beginning to volunteer at the SHARE Center, where women who are pregnant can go for help and resources. I have also volunteered at my church, CBCB, for their annual VBS during the summer.
I am passionate about helping others. I want everyone that I meet to feel welcomed, needed, and appreciated. Growing up, I was severely bullied and did not feel wanted. I felt I had no voice; that I was muted or invisible. In high school, I joined Student Council and found who I was. Over four years, I dedicated my time to serving, communicating, and building connections and relationships. Student Council drove me to my passion for helping and making others feel they have a voice. Through many community service projects, assemblies, get-togethers, and events, I began to understand the meaning of service and connection. Everyone has a place and is needed. Everyone has their own strengths and deserves to find out what they are. Everyone should be heard. That is why I came to the decision of pursuing Psychology, in hopes of becoming a Child Psychologist. Children are at times silenced and overlooked. I want to help, make changes for the better, and help them have a voice to be heard. Even if it is one person at a time, I know I want to help. I feel that is what I am called to do.
