Bio

I hope to be a psychologist within the next 12 years, I am most passionate with helping others prosper with my leadership skills. I am a great candidate because I truly need all the money I can get to help support my financial stability in college. I was raised in a low income town with my single mother being the only one to provide for me. My greatest goal is to help others but also to be able to repay my mom by continuing to prosper in life no matter what and showing her all her hard work of raising me paid off.

As a first-generation Latin-American student, I come from a background that's shaped by resilience, determination, and the love of family. Growing up, I was raised by my single mom, who worked tirelessly to provide for our family. Her strength and perseverance have inspired me to pursue my dreams and make a difference in the world. One of my passions is psychology. I've always been fascinated by the complexities of the human mind and behavior. Understanding why people think, feel, and act the way they do is like unlocking the mysteries of the world. My journey into psychology began with a curiosity to understand myself better and evolved into a desire to help others navigate the challenges of life. As a senior in high school, I'm on the brink of embarking on the next chapter of my life. My goal is to pursue a career in psychology, where I can use my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on individuals and communities. Whether it's providing therapy to those in need, conducting research to advance our understanding of mental health, or advocating for policies that promote access to mental health services, I want to contribute to the well-being of others. My identities as a first-generation Latin-American student have deeply influenced my future goals. Growing up in a household where Spanish was spoken alongside English, I've been exposed to both of the cultures that make up my heritage. This multicultural upbringing has instilled in me a deep appreciation for diversity and a commitment to social justice. In my future career, I hope to advocate for marginalized communities and address the disparities that exist in access to mental health care. As a bilingual psychologist, I want to break down language barriers and ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to culturally competent and inclusive mental health services. Moreover, being a first-generation college student comes with its own set of challenges and opportunities. I'm paving the way for future generations in my family, demonstrating that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. My journey is not just about achieving personal success but also about opening doors for others who come after me. In conclusion, my passion for psychology, coupled with my identities as a first-generation Latin-American student, has shaped my future aspirations. I am determined to make a positive impact on the world by advocating for mental health equity and promoting social justice. With the support of my family and community, I am confident that I can achieve my goals and create a brighter future for myself and others.

Let me give you a glimpse into who I am, what I enjoy doing, and how I plan to contribute to the field I'm stepping into. My fascination with psychology runs deep, stemming from a curiosity about the intricacies of human thoughts and behaviors. In high school, basketball was more than just a game to me; it was a journey filled with ups and downs that shaped who I am today. As team captain, I thrived on guiding my teammates, fostering a strong sense of unity and shared success. While my personal achievements may not have always grabbed the spotlight, the lessons learned on the court have been invaluable as I look to my future in psychology. Basketball mirrored life, throwing challenges my way that demanded resilience and teamwork to conquer. Dealing with self-doubt, especially during intense games, taught me the importance of mental strength and believing in myself, skills that extend far beyond the court. Raised by a single mother, her unwavering support taught me gratitude and responsibility. Seeing her overcome hardships fueled my determination to excel, not just for me, but to ease her burdens too. Basketball became my outlet, motivating me to aim for excellence and a brighter tomorrow. Beyond basketball, my interest in psychology grew from a personal experience with a friend battling mental health issues. Witnessing their struggles fueled my passion for advocating mental health awareness and support, understanding the power of empathy in healing. As I ventured into academics, the teamwork and resilience from basketball became my secret weapons. Whether tackling group projects or tough coursework, the lessons from the court guided me through obstacles, preparing me for my dream of becoming a psychologist. My goal? To create a safe space where people can confront their inner demons and start their journey to healing and self-discovery. I've come to realize that every aspect of my life has played a significant role in shaping my aspirations and values. Growing up in a single-parent household, I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices and resilience required to navigate life's challenges. My mother's unwavering support and determination to provide for our family instilled in me a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility. Her strength in the face of adversity served as a guiding light, inspiring me to pursue excellence and give back to those who have supported me along the way. Basketball provided me with a platform to channel my ambitions and cultivate essential life skills. As a team captain, I embraced the opportunity to lead by example, fostering a culture of teamwork and mutual respect. While the victories were sweet, it was the setbacks and struggles that truly tested my character and taught me the importance of perseverance and resilience. These lessons have been instrumental in shaping my approach to life and will undoubtedly serve me well in my future endeavors. My passion for psychology was ignited by a deeply personal experience with a close friend who battled undiagnosed mental health issues. Witnessing their journey highlighted the pervasive stigma and lack of understanding surrounding mental illness, fueling my determination to advocate for greater awareness and support. Through empathy and compassion, I believe we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help and embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery. As I transition into the next chapter of my life, I am grateful for the invaluable lessons and experiences that basketball has provided. Armed with a strong sense of purpose and a deep-seated commitment to making a difference, I am eager to embark on a career in psychology where I can utilize my skills and passion to positively impact the lives of others. With each challenge and triumph, I am reminded of the resilience and determination that have brought me this far, and I am confident in my ability to overcome whatever obstacles may lie ahead.
