've always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a child. My mother is a teacher and I loved watching her fill her students with joy, compassion, and knowledge. I wanted to be just like her. As a grew older that dream was put away. Knowing how much I loved to help others and that I would not peruse a career that I couldn't do that my family members tried to point me in a different direction to become a doctor or lawyer. It wasn't until my junior year of high school that everything changed, my dream of becoming an educator was calling me louder than ever. My welding instructor Mr. Trotter has made a huge impact on my life and led hundreds of other students into finding their careers. It was a beautiful sunny day in August 2022, Trotter had asked me to show one of the other students how to use the bandsaw. I took my friend to the back shop and started explaining settings, controls, and how to manipulate the machine to the perfect angle. What I didn't know is that Trotter was listening to the conversation. He pulled me aside and asked "Allie, what do you want to do for your career?" I replied with "I am not sure." Mr. Trotter said, "I think you would make an excellent teacher." Validating my dream, I took his advice and am now going to peruse a secondary education degree specializing in CTE (Career Technical Education). Throughout my schooling K-12 I have been blessed with amazing educators. These teachers have dedicated themselves to their students. Growing up in family of teachers I have seen first-hand the influence that teachers have on young adult's lives. I want to be that light in otherers journeys. My goal as an educator would be to bring value into a classroom/shop and set students up for success. In Alaska working in a trade is not uncommon, from welding on the pipeline to being a roustabout on the north slope, there are many jobs in the trades that need to be filled in order for our state to survive. I have always had a passion for trade work and appreciated the dedication and talent that it takes. I would love to teach young adults to be able to master these trades and prepare them for the conditions of these jobs to keep Alaska thriving.

Choosing my career path was roller-coaster. I went from wanting to be a marine biologist, to a welder, but eventually I settled on perusing a career in teaching CTE as I have wanted too since I was a kid. I am Alexandria Childs, certified welder, and outdoor enthusiast. I come from a line of teachers, my mother and grandfather are elementary school teachers, and my aunt and uncle are middle school teachers. My welding instructor Dan Trotter has made a huge impact on my life, guiding me and hundreds of other students to finding their careers. One sunny August day in 2022 I had just begun my welding journey; Mr. Trotter asked me if I could show another student how to use our bandsaw. I took my friend to the back shop and began explaining how the bandsaw works, settings, and how to use the adjustments. What I didn't know was that Mr. Trotter was listening to the conversation between me and the other student. He saw the passion I had for sharing my knowledge with others. Trotter pulled me aside and asked me "Allie, what do you want to do with your life?" I replied with "I'm not sure". Trotter validated my dream since I was a little girl and said, "I think you would make a wonderful teacher." I am extremely passionate about giving and receiving knowledge. Throughout my schooling K-12, I have been blessed with outstanding educators. These teachers have devoted themselves to helping others and getting their students exited to learn. I want to be that light in students' life to guide them and share my skills with young adults like me. I have chosen to teach CTE (Career Technical Education) so that I can mentor students into finding their careers. I want to be able to bring value into a classroom/shop and teach real life scenarios to get students set up for success. Coming from a family of educators I have grown up seeing the behind scenes of how a classroom works and thrives. Being to 3rd-5th grade an hour early and staying an hour late everyday let me get an insight on how our teachers make a school run. They help and support each other with all they have and don't just create an amazing community but a family inside of the school. I want to pay it forward by piloting students to reach their full potential and forming meaningful contentions in my community. as my teachers and family members did for me.

Becoming a teacher is a noble and fulfilling profession that allows individuals to positively impact the lives of young people and contribute to the betterment of society as a whole. As someone who has personally experienced the transformative power of education, I am inspired to pursue a career in teaching to help the community and guide young adults towards a successful future, just as my own teachers did for me. Growing up, I was fortunate to have educators who believed in me, challenged me, and encouraged me to reach my full potential. Their guidance and support not only helped me succeed academically but also instilled in me a strong sense of self-confidence and a passion for lifelong learning. It was through their mentorship and dedication that I discovered my own abilities and interests, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities they provided me. My welding teacher played a pivotal role in helping me discover my passion for welding.
