Hi, my name is Alexandria Carrington and I’m current an undergraduate student at the Central State University, the only public HBCU in Ohio. I went to Reynoldsburg High School in Columbus, Ohio where I graduated with a 3.8 GPA in 2025. There a few things or people that have impacted my life tremendously. One person that has impacted my life is my Coach. Coach Chuck has been my weight lifting Coach for almost 4 years now. I’ve been running track for about 6 years and the amount of setbacks that I endured or major moments I’ve achieved in my sport, he was always there before, during, and after hand. He’s the only person I’ve trusted with training me because he knows me so well. I don’t ever have to say a word but he always automatically knows that something is wrong or when something is right. He’s the reason for the shift in my mindset of my sport and tools that I’ve brought into the outside world of track. I had extreme race anxiety, where I would literally fear competition and psych my own brain and ruin the race plan before I even stepped on the track. My constant overthinking as well as my lack of confidence was at an all time high, even though I had the talent. When I started working with him, not only did I notice the muscle difference but how much he would be speaking life into me, that gave me more and more confidence to want better for myself because I put the work in and now it was just time to showcase it all. The things he would put into my mind were things that I continue to bring to college and as I work with over the summer, I’m just learning more and more about myself and things that I can improve on individually. The impact that I was able to receive and instill in myself was not to be too hard on myself. When I was too hard on myself or overthought things, it often ended up in dissatisfaction and tons of frustration. What I’ve taken from my sport is the determination to want to get things done in and out of my sport. The discipline that it takes to earn awards, status, or achievement. The focus to stay in my own path and not worry about what the person in front or behind me is doing. The grit and passion to do something I truly love is something that I want to also take into law enforcement. It is something I’ve been passionate about since I could watch tv and learned how law enforcement worked in school. My goal is be a homicide detective, homicide touches me specifically because it happens a lot in the area that I’m in. To also see it happen so much more often now and a lot of families are left questioning what could they have done or left with no answers to their families members deaths at all. My drive is to help solve those cases and leave family members confident in my work and be able to trust me with something so important. In conclusion, I want a career where I can help the community or my coworkers every day and be that someone that people can rely on in emergencies or non-emergency situations. I’m drawn to a career that emphasizes or critical thinking management, teamwork, courage, and continuous learning. Hi! My name is Alexandria Carrington and I’m a student at Central State University, Ohio’s only public Historically Black College and University. I went to Reynoldsburg High School in Columbus, Ohio where I graduated with a 3.8 GPA in 2025. I love to cook food, mainly just to keep my nutrition at a good level and because most of the food I make is pretty good too. I love to learn new things, right now I’m currently learning ASL and building legos. It’s something I find peace in with all the chaos that’s going on around the world. I began running track in February of 2020 when I was in the 8th Grade, around Covid time. At first it was just something I had to do because my mom, Holly Hill, needed me to do something active. I never really liked sports, I was into horses and swimming here and there but never anything that had to do with running. My first year, I was really hesitant because I wasn’t as fast as others but little did I know that this sport would begin to teach me more than I thought. Going into High School, I joined a club team over the summer and eventually I was one of the fastest people on the team just as a freshman. Not only that, the enjoyment I got being out there on the track and learning something new about the sport and me everyday, was something that turned into my escape and my peace. Over the years, I learned about God more and how to combine my sport along with my faith. Eventually, I became a hurdler and with some setbacks (injuries) I was able to go to the state championship my senior year, and eventually get recruited to a couple schools. It was a dream I never saw coming but something I’ve been so grateful for. I have two brothers, Sekai and Donell, along with a dog named Chico whom I’ve had since the age of 8. My grandparents, dad, aunt, cousin etc, are all some of my biggest supporters and the love I have for them runs deep but the love and support and respect I’ve gotten from my mom is unconditional, especially when it comes to something I love (which is track). I’ve always had a tight family dynamic but being the only athlete in the family, this brought us closer and having that family connection means the world to me. As I attend Central State, I’ve met some amazing friends, loved ones, coaches, and professors. Since a young age, I’ve had an ambition to pursue criminal justice. I’ve always wanted to advocate for the people who couldn’t do it themselves and really get in the problem of systemic flaws and failures that they have contributed onto the community of people. I plan to become a police officer, specifically a homicide detective. Honestly, I wanted to pursue a track career at the same time as well but I’ll see where God takes me. I want to finish these four years out strong and have a family of my own and be the example for them. I want to become a police officer because studying what the system looks like and going to school. I’ve learned a variety of things, including learning that law enforcement has a profound impact on people’s daily lives. I want to be apart of that impact in a positive way and demonstrate an example of what younger people can look up to and strive to be one day. My interest in criminal justice started from a very young age, watching Law in Order and intrigued on what would happen next, I also loved to watch First 48 and shows amongst that. Although Law and Order is completely different from what investigations actually look like, as I grew up the passion never left, no matter the circumstance. I found a desire in the criminal law world and began to take interest in it more in High School to really see what it’s about. The more that I learn, it’s taught me the importance of what being a police officer intells. I actually picked a specific role that I would like to follow which is being a Homicide Detective. The profession alone carries significant responsibility and requires integrity, fairness, and compassion. In whatever department, county, state, etc, that I’m in. I want to help build trust within the community, respond to people during some of their most difficult moments, and contribute to creating a much safer environment for everyone. My goal is to become a homicide detective one day, maybe even a recruiter or join the military and become an officer there. In conclusion, I want a career where I can help the community or my coworkers every day and be that someone that people can rely on in emergencies or non-emergency situations. I’m drawn to a career that emphasizes or critical thinking management, teamwork, courage, and continuous learning. I want to do what peers think around me are impossible, with the grit and determination that I have instilled within myself over the years, I instill confidence in myself everyday. The amounts of stigma that police officers do have also have been a contributing factor because I’ve been told multiple times to rethink my career. Not once do I consider it because it’s something God has been drawing me to do. I hope to be considered as a candidate for this scholarship as I am in need of financial aid to stay and finish all four years of college. Thank you for your time and consideration!
