Shockingly, my love and passion for math did not begin simply with its importance; it began with competition. In my early days of elementary school, my classes frequently played a game where two students stood at the front of the classroom with a math problem presented on the whiteboard behind them. The first person to finish the problem would be considered the winner, and he/she would stay at the front of the room while the loser would sit down. Eventually, the entire class would rotate through until an ultimate winner was determined.
