    Sarah Eber Child Life Scholarship
A time of tremendous adversity in my life occurred when multiple challenges collided at once serious health issues, financial instability, and the responsibility of being a single parent. Rather than facing one obstacle at a time, I found myself navigating several life-altering circumstances simultaneously. It was overwhelming and emotionally exhausting, and there were moments when simply getting through the day felt like a victory. Initially, I viewed this adversity as a breaking point. I felt discouraged and questioned why everything seemed to be happening all at once. I had worked hard to build stability for myself and my child, and suddenly that stability felt fragile. Fear and uncertainty crept in, especially as I worried about my health, my ability to provide, and the future I was trying to build. However, after allowing myself to acknowledge those emotions, I realized that staying stuck in fear would not move me forward. My plan of action became centered on control, structure, and resilience. I focused on what I could manage, even when circumstances felt out of my hands. I prioritized my health by following medical guidance and giving myself permission to slow down when necessary. At the same time, I committed to continuing my education, knowing that it was a critical step toward long-term stability. As a parent, I made it my mission to remain emotionally present and consistent for my child, even during moments when I felt depleted. I also learned to ask for help and to accept support without viewing it as weakness. This was a difficult but necessary shift. Rather than seeing independence as doing everything alone, I began to see strength in collaboration, adaptability, and perseverance. Each day, I focused on taking one intentional step forward, whether that meant completing an assignment, attending an appointment, or simply maintaining routine and structure. This period of adversity deeply changed my perception of life. I learned that hardship does not define failure, but rather reveals character. I gained a greater appreciation for resilience, patience, and the importance of self-compassion. I now approach challenges with a mindset rooted in problem-solving and long-term vision rather than immediate fear. Most importantly, adversity taught me that growth often happens quietly and gradually. It strengthened my sense of purpose, reshaped my priorities, and reinforced my belief that perseverance, consistency, and faith in oneself can transform even the most difficult circumstances into opportunities for growth. This experience continues to guide how I approach challenges today, reminding me that resilience is not about avoiding adversity, but about rising through it with determination and grace.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of Wicked because it represents far more than a musical or a movie to me it represents connection, memories, and shared joy with my daughter. Watching Wicked together twice in the movie theater became a special bonding experience that I will always cherish. In the middle of busy schedules and life’s challenges, sitting side by side, fully present, laughing, reacting, and feeling the story together was something truly meaningful. My daughter has been a fan of Ariana Grande since she was very young, back when Ariana was still an upcoming artist. I remember taking my daughter to Ariana’s first tour, and seeing how excited and inspired she was made that moment unforgettable for me as a parent. Ariana’s influence became part of our family memories even something as simple as my sister always wanting Ariana’s signature high ponytail reminds me of how music and pop culture can connect generations and create shared traditions. Seeing Ariana in Wicked felt full-circle. It was special not only because of her role, but because it brought back years of memories from concerts, to car rides filled with music, to now sitting in a movie theater with my daughter, watching her light up all over again. Those moments remind me how powerful storytelling and performance can be, especially when they become part of your family’s story. Beyond the personal connection, I love Wicked for what it stands for. The movie highlights themes of being misunderstood, staying true to yourself, and challenging labels that society places on people. It shows that there is more to every story than what we see on the surface, and that strength, kindness, and courage don’t always look the same. As a mother, those messages matter to me. I want my daughter to grow up knowing that it’s okay to be different, to stand in her truth, and to have empathy for others. Wicked combines powerful music, strong female characters, and meaningful lessons but most importantly for me, it gave me time, memories, and connection with my daughter. That shared experience is why it holds such a special place in my heart and why I will always be a fan.
    Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
One of the most moving performances of Taylor Swift for me is her performance of “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” during The Eras Tour. That performance stands out not just because of the song itself, but because of what it represents in the context of her career and her journey in the spotlight which is why it feels especially connected to the themes suggested by The Life of a Showgirl. What makes this performance so powerful is the way Taylor commands the stage with nothing but storytelling, vulnerability, and presence. There are no distractions or theatrics overshadowing the emotion of the moment. Instead, she allows the lyrics and the narrative to take center stage. Watching her perform this song years after first writing it, with a sense of ownership and clarity that only comes from growth, feels like witnessing an artist reclaim her story in real time. The performance is moving because it reflects how far she has come not only as a musician, but as a woman who has learned to stand confidently in her truth. When Taylor performs “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” you can feel the weight of her experiences: heartbreak, criticism, reinvention, and resilience. There is a noticeable difference between the young woman who originally wrote the song and the artist performing it now. That contrast adds depth and emotional gravity, showing how time and perspective can transform pain into power. Another reason this performance resonates so deeply is the connection she creates with the audience. Thousands of people sing along, not just because they love the song, but because they see themselves in it. Taylor has always had a rare ability to turn personal experiences into shared emotions, and this performance exemplifies that gift. It feels intimate despite the massive scale of the stadium, which speaks to her authenticity as a performer. In the context of a career lived largely in the public eye, this performance feels like a quiet moment of reflection amid the spectacle. It reminds viewers that behind the lights, costumes, and applause is a woman who has felt deeply, endured scrutiny, and continued to evolve. That is what makes the performance so moving it captures both the vulnerability and strength required to live life as a “showgirl,” constantly seen, yet still deeply human. For me, this performance is a testament to Taylor Swift’s ability to grow without losing herself, to revisit old chapters with compassion, and to turn lived experience into art that continues to resonate years later.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I am a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because her career represents growth, resilience, and self-belief qualities that deeply resonate with my own life journey. Watching her evolve from a young actress into a confident, independent artist has been inspiring, not just musically, but personally. She has shown that it is possible to redefine yourself, take risks, and claim your voice even when others try to box you into a specific image or role. What stands out most to me about Sabrina Carpenter is her perseverance. She did not allow early labels or expectations to limit her creativity or ambition. Instead, she continued to work, write, and grow until her artistry fully reflected who she is. That kind of determination is something I admire because it mirrors my own path. As a woman, a single mother, and a first-generation college student, I understand what it feels like to have to prove yourself repeatedly and to keep going even when progress feels slow or unseen. Her music has also impacted me emotionally. Many of her songs explore themes of self-worth, healing, and empowerment messages that are especially meaningful during challenging moments. Listening to her music has helped me feel understood and reminded me that growth is not always linear. It’s okay to evolve, change direction, and still stand confidently in who you are becoming. Beyond her music, Sabrina Carpenter’s confidence and authenticity have encouraged me to embrace my own voice. She is unapologetic about her creativity and femininity, and she shows that strength and vulnerability can coexist. That perspective has helped me feel more comfortable owning my story, my struggles, and my goals without feeling the need to shrink myself or seek approval. Her career has impacted me by reinforcing the idea that success does not happen overnight and that persistence matters. Watching her continue to rise through hard work and self-trust reminds me why I continue pursuing my education and personal goals despite obstacles. She represents what is possible when you stay committed to your growth and refuse to give up on yourself. Being a fan of Sabrina Carpenter goes beyond enjoying her music it’s about drawing inspiration from her journey. Her career reminds me that reinvention is powerful, resilience is essential, and believing in yourself can lead to meaningful change.

    1. Motivation for Pursuing Advanced Education My motivation for pursuing advanced education comes from a combination of lived experience, responsibility, and purpose. As a first-generation college student and a single mother, I have learned that education is not simply a personal achievement, but a tool for long-term stability and change. I want more than survival for myself and my daughter I want a future built on security, service, and opportunity. My interest in healthcare was shaped by personal medical experiences. I have been hospitalized, undergone surgeries, and experienced serious pregnancy complications that nearly cost me my life. Being placed in such vulnerable situations showed me how critical compassionate, knowledgeable healthcare professionals are. I experienced moments where clear communication and empathy made all the difference, and moments where confusion and fear could have been eased with better support. These experiences inspired me to pursue advanced education so I can one day provide patient-centered care that prioritizes dignity, advocacy, and understanding. Pursuing advanced education also reflects my desire to break generational cycles. Returning to school as a nontraditional student required courage and sacrifice, but it reaffirmed my belief that growth often comes from challenging circumstances. I want my daughter to see resilience in action and understand that education can open doors regardless of obstacles. 2. How This Scholarship Will Benefit Me This scholarship would significantly benefit me by easing the financial burden that often stands in the way of continuing education for single parents and first-generation students. Balancing tuition, textbooks, and living expenses remains one of my greatest challenges. Scholarship support would reduce financial stress and allow me to focus more fully on my studies rather than worrying about how to cover basic educational costs. With this support, I would be able to dedicate more time to academic success, skill development, and long-term career preparation. It would also help me remain on track to complete my program without unnecessary delays caused by financial constraints. Beyond the financial impact, receiving this scholarship would be a powerful affirmation of my commitment and perseverance. Ultimately, this scholarship would not only support my education, but also the future patients and communities I hope to serve. By investing in my education, you are helping me work toward a career rooted in compassion, advocacy, and service. I plan to use my education to give back by supporting underserved populations, mentoring future students, and helping create a more inclusive healthcare system.
    Second Chance Scholarship
I want to make a change in my life because I refuse to let my circumstances define my future or limit the example I set for my daughter. For much of my life, I have had to be strong out of necessitya navigating financial hardship, health challenges, and single parenthood while carrying responsibilities that often came without support. There came a point where survival was no longer enough. I wanted stability, purpose, and a future rooted in service rather than struggle. Choosing education was my way of choosing growth, healing, and long-term change. The steps I have taken to reach my goals have required commitment and sacrifice. I returned to school as a nontraditional student while balancing parenting, work, and ongoing personal responsibilities. I enrolled in a Health Science program because I wanted a career that aligned with both my personal experiences and my desire to help others. I have remained focused on completing my coursework, seeking out academic support when needed, and continuing to move forward even during moments of exhaustion and self-doubt. I have also worked to improve my stability by managing limited resources carefully and prioritizing my education despite financial strain. Beyond academics, I have taken intentional steps to grow personally and professionally. I have drawn from my lived experiences as a patient, a bilingual Latina, and a caregiver to better understand the impact I want to make in healthcare. These experiences have clarified my long-term goals and strengthened my resolve to work in a patient-centered role where empathy, communication, and advocacy are just as important as clinical knowledge. This scholarship would play a critical role in helping me continue my journey. I also plan to mentor first-generation students and single parents by sharing my story and encouraging them to pursue education despite the obstacles they may face. Making a change in my life was not an easy decision, but it was a necessary one. Education has given me direction, hope, and purpose. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue building a future rooted in service, resilience, and the commitment to lift others as I move forward.
    Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I chose to pursue a degree in healthcare not only out of interest, but out of lived experience. Healthcare has played a defining role in my life not from a distance, but from the patient’s side. I have been hospitalized, undergone surgeries, and faced medical complications that required me to place my life in the hands of healthcare professionals. Most significantly, during my pregnancy, I experienced serious complications and nearly lost my life. Those moments changed me. They gave me a deep understanding of how vulnerable a patient can feel and how critical compassionate, attentive care truly is. Being a patient taught me that healthcare is not just about procedures, charts, or diagnoses. It is about communication, reassurance, and trust. During my most difficult moments, I remember how much it mattered when a healthcare professional took the time to explain what was happening, listened to my concerns, and treated me with dignity. I also remember moments when communication felt rushed or impersonal, leaving me confused and fearful. Those experiences stayed with me and ultimately inspired my decision to pursue a degree in Health Science. As a woman, and now a mother, I understand how often women’s concerns can be minimized in medical settings, especially when complications arise. Navigating pregnancy complications made me realize how important it is for patients to feel heard and advocated for. I want to be the kind of healthcare professional who listens carefully, asks questions, and ensures patients understand their care particularly women, mothers, and individuals who may feel intimidated or overlooked within the healthcare system. Pursuing a degree in healthcare has allowed me to connect my personal experiences with academic knowledge. It has given me the tools to understand what happens behind the scenes in patient care while reinforcing the importance of empathy and cultural awareness. As a bilingual Latina woman, I recognize how language and cultural barriers can further complicate medical experiences. I hope to use my bilingual skills to help patients feel safe, understood, and empowered to advocate for themselves. My goal is to work in a patient-centered healthcare role where I can directly support individuals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I want to be someone patients trust someone who brings not only clinical knowledge, but compassion shaped by personal experience. I also hope to inspire other women, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue careers in healthcare by showing that adversity can become purpose. Surviving medical complications and overcoming personal health challenges has given me resilience, empathy, and clarity. These experiences did not discourage me from healthcare they drew me closer to it. Through my education and future career, I hope to make a positive impact by advocating for patients, improving communication, and contributing to a healthcare system that treats every individual with care, respect, and humanity.
Rev. and Mrs. E B Dunbar Scholarship
My pursuit of higher education has been shaped by obstacles that extend far beyond the classroom. As a first-generation college student and a single mother, returning to school required courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief that education could create a better future for both myself and my child. Balancing coursework with parenting responsibilities, financial instability, and health challenges has often felt overwhelming, yet these experiences have strengthened my determination to succeed. One of the greatest obstacles I have faced is financial hardship. Supporting a household on a limited income while paying for tuition, books, and basic living expenses has required constant planning and sacrifice. There were moments when I had to choose between focusing on my studies or addressing immediate financial needs. At times, I relied on public assistance programs simply to stay afloat, which carried both emotional weight and social stigma. Despite this, I remained committed to my education because I understood that earning a degree was not just for me, but for breaking generational cycles and creating long-term stability. Another challenge has been navigating higher education without a roadmap. As a first-generation student, I did not have family members who could guide me through college systems, financial aid processes, or academic expectations. I learned to advocate for myself, seek out resources, and persist even when I felt unsure or discouraged. Managing coursework while facing personal health challenges and mental exhaustion tested my resilience, but it also taught me the importance of asking for help and supporting others in return. Despite these obstacles, my education has given me a sense of purpose and direction. I am pursuing a degree in Health Science because I want to serve communities that often face the same barriers I have experienced limited access to healthcare, language barriers, and a lack of representation. My goal is to work in a patient-centered healthcare role where I can provide compassionate care, clear communication, and advocacy for individuals and families who may feel overwhelmed by the medical system. In the future, I plan to give back to my community by using my education and lived experience to support underserved populations. As a bilingual healthcare professional, I will help bridge language gaps that prevent patients from fully understanding their care. I also hope to mentor first-generation and nontraditional students, especially young women and single parents, by sharing my journey and encouraging them to pursue higher education despite the challenges they may face. My obstacles have shaped not only my resilience, but my purpose. They have given me a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to service. Through my education, I intend to uplift others, advocate for equity, and contribute to a healthier, more informed community. This scholarship would support not only my academic goals, but my mission to give back in meaningful and lasting ways.
    Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Aim Higher" Scholarship
The thing I want to build most in my life is a stable, purpose-driven future for my child and myself one rooted in education, service, and resilience. This is not something that can be built overnight or with a single achievement. It is something I am building step by step through commitment, perseverance, and intentional choices, especially as a single parent pursuing higher education. At the center of what I am building is education. Earning my degree in Health Science is a foundational part of my future because it represents stability, opportunity, and the ability to give back. Education is the framework that allows me to transform lived experience into meaningful service. I am building the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to pursue a career in healthcare where compassion and understanding are just as important as technical ability. I am also building a life defined by consistency and reliability for my child. Growing up, I experienced firsthand how instability and limited resources can impact a family. As a result, I am deeply intentional about creating a home environment where my child feels secure, supported, and encouraged to dream beyond limitations. By pursuing my education and modeling perseverance, I hope to build a future that shows her that challenges do not define outcomes commitment and effort do. Beyond my family, I hope what I am building will positively impact my community. I want to work in a field where I can support individuals and families during vulnerable moments, particularly those who feel overwhelmed, unheard, or underserved. Through healthcare, I plan to help people navigate difficult situations with dignity and understanding. Even small acts listening, educating, reassuring can make a meaningful difference in someone’s experience, and I want my work to reflect that belief. What I am building is not just a career, but a life centered on purpose and service. It is a future where my experiences as a single parent, caregiver, and student become strengths rather than obstacles. By continuing to invest in my education and personal growth, I am building a future that allows me to contribute positively to my community while providing long-term stability for my family. Ultimately, what I hope to build is a life that proves growth is possible even when the starting point is difficult. Through education, compassion, and perseverance, I am building a future that benefits not only myself and my child, but the community I hope to serve.
Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship
The most challenging part of being both a student and a single parent is carrying the full responsibility of two demanding roles at the same time, without the option to pause either one. There is no separation between school life and family life both require constant attention, commitment, and emotional energy. As a single parent, I am responsible for my child’s well-being, stability, and daily needs, while also being accountable for my academic progress, deadlines, and long-term educational goals. Balancing these responsibilities has been one of the most demanding challenges of my life. Time is one of the greatest obstacles. Every day requires careful planning, yet life rarely follows a perfect schedule. There are nights when studying happens after my child is asleep, and mornings that begin early to ensure everything is prepared before school and responsibilities begin. Unexpected situations such as illness, school needs, or emotional moments—can disrupt even the most organized plans. As a single parent, there is no backup or shared responsibility when these situations arise. I must adapt quickly while still meeting academic expectations, which can be mentally and physically exhausting. Financial stress adds another layer to this challenge. Balancing tuition, textbooks, transportation, and basic living expenses while pursuing higher education requires constant sacrifice. There have been times when I have had to carefully decide how to allocate limited resources, often putting my own needs last. This pressure can make it difficult to stay fully focused on academics, as financial uncertainty affects both emotional well-being and stability at home. Despite this, I remain committed to my education because I know it is the path toward long-term security for my family. Emotionally, being a student and a single parent requires resilience. There are moments of guilt when I feel torn between spending time studying and being fully present with my child. There are also moments of self-doubt, exhaustion, and fear of falling behind. However, these challenges have strengthened my perseverance rather than weakened it. They have taught me discipline, adaptability, and the importance of pushing forward even when circumstances are difficult. My child is my greatest motivation. Every challenge reminds me why I am pursuing my education to create a stable, secure, and hopeful future. I want my child to see that education matters, that perseverance has value, and that hard work can create opportunities even when the path is not easy. Being both a student and a parent has taught me that progress does not require perfection, only consistency and determination. This scholarship would play a transformative role in helping me pave the way for my future and my child’s future. Financial support would significantly reduce the burden of educational expenses, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies rather than constantly worrying about finances. With this relief, I would be able to invest more time and energy into my coursework, academic performance, and professional preparation. Reducing financial stress would also create a more stable environment at home, which directly impacts my ability to succeed academically. Beyond financial assistance, this scholarship represents belief and encouragement. It acknowledges the effort required to pursue higher education while raising a child alone. Knowing that my dedication and perseverance are recognized would provide motivation during moments when the journey feels overwhelming. It would reinforce my belief that continuing forward, despite obstacles, is worthwhile. This scholarship would also help pave the way for generational change. By supporting my education, it supports my child’s future as well. Completing my degree will allow me to pursue a meaningful career that provides long-term stability, independence, and the ability to give back to my community. It will show my child that challenges can be overcome through education, resilience, and commitment. Ultimately, balancing being a student and a single parent is challenging because it requires constant sacrifice, strength, and perseverance. However, it has also shaped me into someone who is disciplined, motivated, and deeply committed to growth. This scholarship would help turn that commitment into lasting opportunity allowing me to complete my education, build a secure future, and give my child a powerful example of what is possible when determination meets support.
    Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
One of the greatest problems I have had to overcome in my life is navigating financial instability while raising my child as a single parent. There was a period when I had to confront the reality that working hard alone was not enough to immediately provide everything my daughter and I needed. Accepting help through programs like CalWORKs and food assistance was not easy for me, but it became a necessary step to ensure stability, safety, and basic needs during a difficult time. Overcoming this challenge required humility, perseverance, and the willingness to use available resources responsibly while continuing to work toward long-term independence. Relying on assistance did not stop me from pursuing my goals it strengthened my determination. I continued my education, managed my responsibilities as a parent, and focused on building a future that would eventually allow me to give back more than I received. This experience taught me that asking for help is not a failure, but a temporary tool to regain stability and keep moving forward. It also gave me a deeper understanding of how many families struggle silently and how critical community support systems are. This scholarship would help me give back to the community by allowing me to continue my education and move closer to a career where I can serve others directly. With reduced financial stress, I can focus more fully on my studies and preparation for a career in healthcare. My goal is to support individuals and families who may be facing hardship, uncertainty, or health challenges especially those who feel overlooked or discouraged. Having experienced the importance of assistance programs firsthand, I hope to one day be an advocate for compassion, education, and access to resources within my community. Regarding “stamp collecting,” while I do not collect stamps in the traditional sense, food stamps and CalWORKs have played a significant role in my life. These programs provided essential support during a time when my daughter and I needed it most. They allowed me to put food on the table, maintain stability, and continue pursuing my education. This experience changed my perspective on community support and social programs. It taught me responsibility, budgeting, gratitude, and the importance of using resources wisely. Rather than defining me, this chapter of my life motivates me. It has influenced my desire to build a career rooted in service and empathy. I understand the value of support systems, and I am committed to paying that support forward by contributing positively to my community. My journey has taught me resilience, humility, and determination and those lessons continue to shape the future I am building for myself and my daughter.
    Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
This opportunity is deeply meaningful to me because it represents more than financial support or recognition it represents hope, validation, and the continuation of a journey that has required unwavering faith. My life has been shaped by challenges that often felt overwhelming, and faith has been the constant source of strength that allowed me to keep moving forward when giving up would have been easier. I grew up in a single-parent, low-income household where stability was never guaranteed. My mother raised four children on her own, working multiple jobs just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. From a young age, I learned that life would require perseverance, sacrifice, and resilience. During times when resources were limited and uncertainty felt heavy, faith became a source of comfort and grounding. It reminded me that my circumstances did not define my worth or my future. As I grew older, my challenges evolved. Becoming a single mother while pursuing my education tested me in ways I never anticipated. Balancing parenting, school, financial stress, and personal responsibilities often felt overwhelming. There were moments when fear, exhaustion, and self-doubt threatened to derail my goals. During those moments, my faith carried me. Prayer became a daily anchor, not always to ask for answers, but to find peace, clarity, and the strength to take the next step forward. One of the most difficult seasons of my life involved caring for my grandfather as he battled Alzheimer’s and dementia. Alongside my mother, I helped care for him as his condition progressed. Watching someone you love slowly lose their memory and independence was heartbreaking. When his condition reached a point where it was no longer safe for us to care for him at home, we had to make the painful decision to place him in a nursing facility. That experience tested my faith deeply, but it also strengthened it. I learned that faith does not remove pain it helps you endure it with grace and understanding. Despite the challenges, there have been triumphs. Continuing my education, remaining committed to my goals, and showing up for my family every day are victories I attribute to faith. Faith has taught me patience, humility, and trust in the process, even when outcomes are uncertain. It has reminded me that progress does not have to be perfect to be meaningful. Looking ahead, I plan to continue using my faith as a guiding force as I pursue a career in healthcare. I want to serve others with compassion, integrity, and empathy, especially during moments of vulnerability. My faith shapes how I see people not as problems to solve, but as individuals worthy of dignity, care, and understanding. It will continue to guide my decisions, my work ethic, and my commitment to serving others with purpose. This opportunity matters to me because it supports not only my education, but the mission I am building my life around. With faith as my foundation, I am committed to reaching greater heights not for recognition, but to create stability for my family, serve my community, and turn adversity into purpose. Faith has carried me this far, and I trust it will continue to lead me forward.
    Nabi Nicole Grant Memorial Scholarship
One of the most significant times I relied on my faith to overcome a challenge was during a period when my life felt emotionally, mentally, and physically overwhelming all at once. I was balancing being a single mother, a student, and a caregiver, while also facing financial stress and uncertainty about the future. There were moments when I felt exhausted, discouraged, and unsure of how I would continue moving forward. During that time, my faith became the anchor that helped me remain grounded when everything else felt unstable. The challenge was not just one isolated event, but a season of hardship that tested my resilience. I was carrying the weight of responsibility for my family while trying to stay committed to my education and long-term goals. There were days when fear and self-doubt crept in, and I questioned whether I was capable of handling everything on my own. I felt stretched thin emotionally and physically, and the pressure often felt heavier than I knew how to manage. In those moments, I turned to my faith for strength and clarity. Prayer became a daily practice, not necessarily to ask for immediate solutions, but to find peace, patience, and reassurance. Through prayer, I found comfort in releasing my fears and trusting that I was not walking through my challenges alone. My faith reminded me that setbacks were not signs of failure, but opportunities for growth and perseverance. Faith also helped me shift my mindset. Instead of focusing on what felt impossible, I learned to focus on what I could control my effort, my intentions, and my willingness to keep going. I leaned into the belief that God had a plan for my life, even when I could not see the full picture. That belief gave me the courage to take things one step at a time, trusting that each small step forward mattered. One of the most powerful lessons my faith taught me during this challenge was the importance of surrender and trust. I learned that relying on faith does not mean ignoring reality or avoiding responsibility; it means trusting that strength, guidance, and support will come when needed. My faith gave me the emotional resilience to face each day with hope instead of fear. Through this experience, my faith grew stronger and more personal. It became a source of quiet confidence and inner peace, helping me remain focused on my goals even when the path felt uncertain. Relying on my faith allowed me to overcome that season of hardship with grace and determination. It taught me that even in the most difficult moments, faith can provide the strength to endure, the courage to continue, and the hope needed to move forward.
    Sammy Hason, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
I plan to improve the lives of others through a career in healthcare by providing compassionate, patient centered care to individuals and families facing some of the most challenging and uncertain moments of their lives. Healthcare, to me, is not just about treating illness it is about listening, educating, advocating, and supporting people as whole individuals. My life experiences, combined with my education in Health Science, have shaped my desire to serve others with empathy, patience, and understanding. Lung disease and rare medical conditions can be especially isolating and overwhelming for patients and their families. These conditions often involve long diagnostic journeys, frequent medical visits, complex treatment plans, and uncertainty about outcomes. I have seen how difficult it can be when patients feel unheard, misunderstood, or reduced to a diagnosis rather than treated as people. In my healthcare career, I want to help change that experience by being someone who listens carefully, explains information clearly, and provides reassurance during stressful and unfamiliar situations. I envision helping individuals with lung disease by supporting early detection, education, and ongoing care. Respiratory conditions can significantly impact quality of life, affecting a person’s ability to breathe comfortably, work, or participate in daily activities. I want to help patients understand their conditions, treatment options, and preventative strategies so they feel empowered rather than fearful. Even small actions such as explaining a test, helping a patient feel calm during a procedure, or ensuring they understand their care plan can make a meaningful difference in their experience and outcomes. For individuals with rare medical conditions, the challenges are often even greater. Many patients spend years seeking answers, facing misdiagnoses, or feeling dismissed because their symptoms do not fit common patterns. I want to be an advocate for these patients by approaching their care with curiosity, respect, and persistence. Rare conditions require healthcare professionals who are willing to listen closely, collaborate with specialists, and treat uncertainty with compassion rather than frustration. I believe patients with rare diseases deserve to feel believed, supported, and valued throughout their care journey. My education is preparing me to contribute to this type of care by giving me a strong foundation in health science, anatomy, physiology, and patient centered practices. Beyond technical knowledge, I am developing communication skills and emotional awareness that are essential in healthcare. As a single mother and caregiver, I understand how illness affects not only the patient but also the family. That perspective allows me to approach care with empathy and a deep respect for the emotional toll medical conditions can take. Ultimately, I plan to improve lives through healthcare by being a steady, compassionate presence for those facing lung disease and rare medical conditions. I want to help create an environment where patients feel informed, supported, and respected, regardless of how common or uncommon their diagnosis may be. Through education, advocacy, and genuine care, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that prioritizes dignity, understanding, and improved quality of life for all patients.
    Dream BIG, Rise HIGHER Scholarship
Education has played a transformative role in shaping my goals and giving my life a sense of direction, especially during periods when my circumstances felt uncertain or overwhelming. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, my early focus was on survival rather than long-term planning. College was not something that was modeled or discussed as an expectation. Instead, I watched my mother work multiple jobs to support four children, doing everything she could to keep our family stable. While I admired her strength and sacrifice, I also saw how limited opportunities can be when access to education is out of reach. Those early experiences planted the seed for why education would eventually become so important to me. For a long time, I did not fully understand how education could shape my future. It felt intimidating and distant, especially as someone without guidance or a clear roadmap. However, once I began pursuing my education, I realized that learning was more than an academic requirement it was a turning point. Education gave me structure, confidence, and a sense of purpose. It helped me see that my life experiences, including hardship, responsibility, and resilience, were not barriers but strengths that could guide my path forward. As a student pursuing Health Science, education helped me clarify my goals and connect my lived experiences to a meaningful career path. Through my coursework, I began to understand the connection between health, stability, access, and compassion. I developed a strong interest in healthcare because it allows me to serve others during vulnerable moments while also building a stable and purposeful future for my family. Education helped me realize that my desire to help others was not just emotional it could be translated into a profession rooted in knowledge, ethics, and service. The challenges I have faced while pursuing my education have been significant. As a single mother, balancing school, parenting, and financial responsibilities requires constant perseverance. There have been many moments of exhaustion, stress, and self doubt. Time is often limited, resources are stretched, and unexpected responsibilities can disrupt even the best-laid plans. In addition to parenting and financial strain, I have also navigated emotional challenges, including caregiving for family members, grief, and mental strain while trying to remain focused academically. Despite these obstacles, I chose not to give up. Education taught me that progress does not have to be perfect to be meaningful. I learned how to break large goals into smaller, manageable steps. Completing one assignment, passing one class, or finishing one semester at a time became victories that kept me moving forward. I learned to manage my time intentionally, advocate for myself, ask for help when needed, and remain disciplined even when motivation felt low. Education also strengthened my resilience and adaptability. It taught me how to navigate systems that were unfamiliar and often overwhelming. As a first-generation student, I had to learn how to seek out resources, understand academic requirements, and persist without the benefit of experience passed down through family. That process built confidence and self-trust. Each challenge I overcame reinforced my belief that I am capable of growth, learning, and long term success. Looking ahead, I hope to use my education to create a better future not only for myself, but for others as well. I plan to work in healthcare, where compassion, communication, and education are essential. I want to support individuals and families during moments of uncertainty and vulnerability, providing care that is patient-centered, respectful, and informed. My background allows me to approach people with empathy and understanding, recognizing that behind every patient is a story shaped by circumstance, access, and support. Education also allows me to break cycles and create generational change. As a single mother, one of my greatest motivations is the example I set for my child. I want her to see that challenges do not define limitations and that education can open doors even when the path feels difficult. I want her to understand that perseverance, consistency, and learning can lead to stability, independence, and purpose. Ultimately, education has shaped my goals by giving me clarity, confidence, and direction. It transformed uncertainty into purpose and struggle into motivation. It taught me that while my circumstances may have been challenging, they do not define my potential. I am committed to using my education as a tool to serve others, build a meaningful career, and create a future grounded in compassion, resilience, and opportunity. Education did not just give me knowledge it gave me hope, direction, and the belief that lasting change is possible.
    Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
When confronted with adversity both physical and mental I have learned that continuing to move forward requires intention, adaptability, and resilience. Life has not offered me a straight or easy path, but each challenge I’ve faced has strengthened my determination to pursue my career aspirations rather than abandon them. Instead of allowing adversity to define my limits, I have focused on finding ways to adjust, persevere, and remain committed to my long-term goals. One of the most important steps I have taken when facing adversity is learning how to pause, reassess, and create realistic plans. As a single parent balancing education, financial responsibilities, and personal challenges, I have had to acknowledge that progress does not always look perfect or linear. There have been moments of exhaustion, stress, and self-doubt, but I learned that slowing down when necessary does not mean giving up. It means protecting my ability to continue. I prioritize my mental and physical health by recognizing my limits, asking for help when needed, and creating structure in my daily life. Staying organized and disciplined has been essential. I rely on schedules, written goals, and clear priorities to stay focused when life feels overwhelming. Breaking larger goals into smaller, manageable steps allows me to continue moving forward even during difficult periods. Completing one assignment, passing one class, or finishing one semester at a time has helped me maintain momentum toward my career aspirations in healthcare. Another key step I have taken is seeking support rather than isolating myself. Whether it’s communicating with instructors, leaning on trusted family members, or utilizing campus and community resources, I’ve learned that perseverance does not mean doing everything alone. Growing up in a single-parent household taught me the value of resilience, but it also taught me that strength includes knowing when to reach out. Mental adversity has also shaped how I approach my goals. I’ve learned to manage stress by reframing challenges as temporary obstacles rather than permanent barriers. Instead of focusing on what feels out of reach, I focus on what I can control my effort, my consistency, and my willingness to keep showing up. This mindset has helped me push through moments of fear, fatigue, and uncertainty. Ultimately, adversity has strengthened my commitment to my career aspirations rather than weakened it. Each challenge reminds me why my goals matter not only for my own growth, but for the stability and future I am building for my family. By staying disciplined, seeking support, prioritizing well-being, and remaining adaptable, I continue to move forward despite physical and mental challenges. My journey has taught me that perseverance is not about avoiding hardship, but about continuing with purpose, even when the path is difficult.
    Harvest Scholarship for Women Dreamers
My “pie in the sky” dream is to build a life where stability, purpose, and service exist together not just for me, but for my child and the people I’m able to help along the way. I dream of becoming a healthcare professional who not only provides care, but also becomes a trusted presence for patients and families who feel overwhelmed, unheard, or unsure. Beyond a job title, my dream is to create a life where I am financially stable, emotionally fulfilled, and able to give back in meaningful ways. This dream was sparked by a combination of necessity and experience. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I saw how hard life can be when resources are limited and support systems are thin. Later, as a single mother myself, that reality became even more personal. I learned quickly that dreams are not optional luxuries they are lifelines. Without something to work toward, it’s easy to get stuck in survival mode. My dream grew out of a desire to break cycles, build security, and turn hardship into purpose. My experiences caring for family members, navigating healthcare systems, and balancing school with parenting showed me how powerful compassionate care can be. I’ve seen how one person’s patience, knowledge, or empathy can completely change someone’s experience during a vulnerable moment. That realization made my dream feel both inspiring and intimidating. The idea of building a meaningful career while raising a child and overcoming financial challenges can feel just out of reach but it’s exactly that tension that keeps me moving forward. To get there, I know the steps will require discipline, sacrifice, and growth. Education is the foundation. Completing my degree in Health Science is a critical step, even when it means late nights, careful budgeting, and constant time management. Beyond academics, I know I’ll need to continue building resilience learning how to ask for help, adapt when plans change, and keep going when progress feels slow. I also believe courage will be essential. It takes courage to pursue a dream when there is no safety net, no guarantee, and no clear example to follow. As a first-generation student and single parent, I am learning to trust myself, advocate for my goals, and take up space in rooms where I once felt I didn’t belong. Creativity matters too finding solutions when resources are limited and seeing possibilities where others might see obstacles. My “pie in the sky” dream may feel distant at times, but it is rooted in commitment. Every class I complete, every challenge I face, and every small step forward brings it closer. I may not have every detail figured out, but I know the direction I’m heading. My dream is not about perfection it’s about growth, service, and building a future where my child can see what’s possible when courage meets persistence. That dream keeps me going, even on the hardest days.
    Poynter Scholarship
Balancing my education with my commitment to my family as a single parent requires intention, structure, and constant perseverance. Being both a student and a parent means that my time, energy, and priorities must be managed carefully. My family is my foundation, and their well-being comes first, but I also understand that earning my degree is essential to creating long-term stability and opportunity for us. Rather than seeing education and family as competing responsibilities, I view them as deeply connected. As a single parent, I rely on planning, discipline, and consistency to maintain balance. I structure my days around my child’s needs while dedicating focused time to my coursework, studying, and academic responsibilities. I have learned to maximize the time I have, whether that means studying late at night, completing assignments early, or staying organized weeks in advance. Growing up in a household where my mother worked multiple jobs taught me the importance of responsibility and time management, and those lessons now guide how I balance my own commitments. There are challenges, of course. Unexpected situations, exhaustion, and financial stress can make balancing school and parenting difficult. However, these challenges have strengthened my resilience rather than discouraged me. I remind myself that every class completed and every semester finished brings me closer to a degree that will provide stability and allow me to better support my family. My child is also a source of motivation; I want to show her that perseverance, education, and dedication matter, even when the path is difficult. This scholarship would play a crucial role in helping me achieve my educational goals. Financial strain is one of the greatest challenges single parents face while pursuing higher education. A scholarship would help relieve the pressure of tuition, books, and other academic expenses, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies instead of constantly worrying about finances. Reducing that burden would also give me greater flexibility to balance school and family responsibilities more effectively. Beyond financial support, receiving this scholarship would be a powerful source of encouragement. It would affirm that my hard work, determination, and commitment to both my education and my family are recognized. That validation would motivate me to continue pushing forward during challenging moments. Ultimately, earning my degree is not just a personal goal it is an investment in my family’s future. With the support of this scholarship, I will be better equipped to complete my education, pursue a meaningful career, and provide long-term stability for my child. I am committed to balancing my responsibilities with intention and perseverance, and this scholarship would help turn that commitment into lasting success.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Being raised in a single-parent household had a profound impact on who I am today and how I view my future. Growing up, I learned early that life does not always follow a traditional or easy path. My mother raised four children on her own, working multiple jobs just to keep our family afloat. Stability was something she fought for every day, and watching her sacrifice so much shaped my understanding of responsibility, perseverance, and resilience. Living in a single-parent household required adaptability. There was little room for excuses or complacency, and I learned how to step up when things were difficult. My mother was strict, not out of harshness, but out of necessity. Structure, discipline, and accountability were essential in our home, and those values stayed with me into adulthood. At the time, I didn’t always appreciate the boundaries she set, but as I’ve grown older especially as a parent myself I understand that they were rooted in love and protection. Those experiences shaped my future goals by instilling in me a strong desire for stability, growth, and purpose. I learned that success is not handed to you; it is built through consistency and determination. Growing up with limited resources also gave me a deep sense of empathy for others who are navigating hardship. I understand how overwhelming life can feel when support systems are limited, and that awareness influences the way I interact with people today. Even though I may not have every detail of my future career fully defined, I know the kind of impact I want to make. I want to use my talents my ability to listen, my resilience, my compassion, and my work ethic to help others feel supported and understood. I am drawn to paths that allow me to serve people during vulnerable moments, whether through healthcare, education, advocacy, or community support. I believe doing good does not always require a specific title, but it does require intention and heart. In the future, I envision myself using my experiences to uplift others, especially individuals and families who feel overlooked or overwhelmed. I want to be someone who creates safe spaces, offers guidance, and shows that growth is possible even when life begins with challenges. I hope to be an example for my child and others that your background does not limit your potential it strengthens it. Being raised in a single-parent household taught me resilience, empathy, and perseverance. Those lessons continue to guide my goals and shape the future I am working toward. No matter where my career ultimately leads, I am committed to using my talents to do good, serve others, and create positive change one person and one moment at a time.
Kim Moon Bae Underrepresented Students Scholarship
My identity as a member of an underrepresented minority population has deeply shaped who I am, how I move through the world, and the path I am pursuing. Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household, I learned early on what it means to navigate systems that were not designed with people like my family in mind. Being part of an underrepresented community meant facing barriers related to access, opportunity, and representation, but it also meant developing resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility to myself and those around me. From a young age, I became aware that success often required working harder and pushing further just to reach the same opportunities as others. Resources were limited, guidance was scarce, and representation in professional and academic spaces was minimal. These experiences did not discourage me; instead, they strengthened my determination. I learned how to advocate for myself, ask questions when answers were not readily available, and remain persistent even when the path forward felt unclear. As I grew older, I recognized how my background influenced my perspective, especially in healthcare and education settings. I have seen how individuals from underrepresented communities can feel overlooked, misunderstood, or hesitant to seek help due to fear, lack of trust, or past experiences. These moments shaped my understanding of the importance of representation, cultural awareness, and empathy. I realized that people feel more supported when they are seen and understood by those who share or respect their lived experiences. As a student pursuing a career in healthcare, my identity continues to influence my goals and motivations. I want to work in a field where I can serve diverse populations with compassion, understanding, and respect. My experiences allow me to approach patients not just through a clinical lens, but through a human one recognizing how culture, socioeconomic status, and access to resources affect health outcomes. I believe that representation in healthcare matters, and I want to be part of creating spaces where individuals from underrepresented backgrounds feel safe, heard, and valued. Looking forward, my identity will continue to guide my path by reminding me of where I come from and why my work matters. I plan to use my education and experiences to advocate for equitable care, patient education, and greater access to healthcare resources. I also hope to serve as an example for others from similar backgrounds, showing that despite obstacles, it is possible to pursue higher education, build a meaningful career, and create positive change. Being a member of an underrepresented minority population has shaped my resilience, empathy, and sense of purpose. It has fueled my determination to not only succeed, but to give back. I carry my identity with pride, knowing that my experiences are not limitations, but strengths that will continue to guide my journey and the impact I hope to make in the world.
    Shanique Gravely Scholarship
The person who has had the biggest impact on my life is my mother. Watching her raise four children on her own three boys and me, the only girl fundamentally shaped who I am today. She worked three to four jobs at a time just to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, and stability in our lives. Growing up, I didn’t always understand the sacrifices she made or the weight she carried, but as I’ve grown older, especially as a mother myself, I recognize the depth of her strength and resilience. My mother was strict, not out of harshness, but out of necessity and love. She understood that structure, discipline, and accountability were essential for survival in a world that did not offer many safety nets. At the time, I sometimes resisted her rules, but now I see how they prepared me for adulthood. She taught me responsibility, work ethic, and perseverance simply by living them every day. Even when she was exhausted, she showed up for us, and that consistency left a lasting impression on me. Another event that dramatically impacted my life was becoming a caregiver for my grandfather when he was battling Alzheimer’s and dementia. Alongside my mother, I helped care for him as his condition progressed. Watching someone you love slowly lose their memory, independence, and sense of self is heartbreaking. Caring for him required patience, emotional strength, and maturity beyond my years. Eventually, his condition reached a point where it was no longer safe for us to care for him at home, and we had to make the painful decision to place him in a nursing facility. That moment was devastating, filled with guilt, grief, and heartbreak, but it also taught me the importance of compassion, boundaries, and asking for help when needed. These experiences being raised by a strong single mother and becoming a caregiver shaped my character and outlook on life. They taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of service. They also influenced my decision to pursue a career in healthcare. I’ve seen firsthand how illness affects not only individuals, but entire families, and how compassionate care can make a difference during the most difficult moments. Today, as a single mother and a student, I carry these lessons with me. My mother’s sacrifices and my caregiving experience continue to motivate me to push forward, even when life feels overwhelming. The biggest impact on my life did not come from one single moment, but from the accumulation of love, hardship, responsibility, and resilience. Those experiences shaped who I am and continue to guide the person I am becoming.

I am pursuing my education in Health Science because I am passionate about helping others during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. My goal is to work in a healthcare role where I can combine medical knowledge with empathy and communication. I want to be someone who not only provides quality care, but also listens, educates, and reassures patients. I believe that healthcare is not just about treating symptoms, but about supporting the whole person. My goal is to help people feel seen, supported, and valued while building a stable and purposeful future for my family. Bick First Generation Scholarship
Being a first-generation student means stepping into unfamiliar territory with determination, courage, and very little guidance. I am the first in my family to pursue higher education, and that journey has been both empowering and challenging. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, college was never presented as an expectation it was a hope. My mother worked three to four jobs to support four children, doing everything she could to provide stability. Watching her sacrifice taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and never giving up, even when the odds feel stacked against you. As a first-generation student, I have faced challenges that go beyond academics. Navigating college applications, financial aid, and course planning often felt overwhelming without a roadmap or someone who had done it before. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and fear of failure, especially while balancing school with parenting and financial responsibilities as a single mother. However, those challenges forced me to grow stronger, more disciplined, and more resilient. I learned to advocate for myself, ask questions, and push forward even when things felt uncertain. What drives me is the desire to create a better future for my child and to break cycles that have existed for generations. I want my child to see that education is possible, even when life is hard. I am pursuing a degree in Health Science because I want a career rooted in service, compassion, and stability. I am drawn to healthcare because it allows me to help others during vulnerable moments while building a meaningful and sustainable future for my family. This scholarship would help me move closer to my goals by easing the financial burden that often makes education feel out of reach for first-generation students. It would allow me to focus more fully on my studies, reduce stress, and continue progressing toward a healthcare career without constant financial strain. More than financial support, this scholarship would be a reminder that my journey matters and that perseverance is recognized. My dream is to build a career in healthcare where I can support others with empathy and understanding, shaped by my own life experiences. I am not pursuing perfection I am pursuing progress. Being a first-generation student means carrying responsibility, hope, and determination all at once. This scholarship would help me continue my journey with confidence, purpose, and the belief that I am capable of creating lasting change for myself, my child, and my community.
    Lotus Scholarship
Coming from a single-parent, low-income household taught me perseverance at a very young age. I watched my mother raise four children on her own while working multiple jobs just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Life was not easy, and stability was never guaranteed, but her determination showed me the importance of resilience, discipline, and hard work. Growing up in that environment meant learning how to adapt, stay focused, and push forward even when circumstances felt overwhelming. Those lessons carried into my adult life, especially as I became a single mother myself. Balancing parenting, school, and financial responsibilities has required constant perseverance. There have been moments when the pressure felt heavy, but my background taught me not to give up when things become difficult. Instead, I’ve learned to stay consistent, manage my time intentionally, and remain focused on long-term goals rather than short-term obstacles. I plan to use my life experiences to make a positive impact by serving others with empathy and understanding, particularly through a career in healthcare. Growing up with limited resources helped me understand how deeply access, support, and education affect quality of life. It also shaped my desire to work in a field where compassion, patience, and advocacy truly matter. I want to support individuals and families during vulnerable moments and provide care that is respectful and patient-centered. I am actively working toward my goals by pursuing an education in Health Science and preparing for a long-term career in healthcare. Henry Respert Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness Scholarship
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia profoundly impacted my life and my family, changing us in ways I never could have anticipated. My grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s and dementia, but before his passing, my mother and I became his primary caregivers. That experience was one of the most difficult and emotionally challenging seasons of my life, yet it also taught me powerful lessons about love, patience, sacrifice, and the realities of caregiving. At the beginning of his illness, the changes were subtle moments of forgetfulness, repeated stories, confusion about time or place. As his condition progressed, those moments became more frequent and more alarming. The man who once provided guidance, strength, and stability to our family slowly began to lose pieces of himself. Watching that transformation was heartbreaking. Alzheimer’s does not only affect the person diagnosed; it impacts the entire family, emotionally, mentally, and physically. As his caregiver alongside my mom, I witnessed firsthand how demanding dementia care can be. Daily routines required constant supervision, patience, and emotional strength. There were moments of confusion, agitation, and fear, both for my grandfather and for us. We did everything we could to keep him safe and comfortable at home, but as his condition worsened, his behavior became unpredictable. Eventually, it reached a point where we could no longer safely care for him on our own. Making the decision to place him in a nursing home was one of the hardest choices our family ever had to make. That decision came with immense guilt, grief, and heartbreak. We struggled with the feeling that we were giving up, even though deep down we knew it was a matter of safety for him and for us. Alzheimer’s took away his independence, and it also took away the normalcy of our family life. Letting professionals step in was necessary, but it never felt easy. It was a painful reminder of how devastating this disease can be. Through this experience, I learned that caregiving is an act of love, even when it feels overwhelming and impossible. I learned that asking for help does not mean failure, and that sometimes the most loving decision is the hardest one. I also gained a deep respect for caregivers and healthcare professionals who support patients and families affected by dementia. Their work requires compassion, patience, and emotional resilience. My grandfather’s journey with Alzheimer’s shaped me deeply. It strengthened my empathy, taught me the importance of dignity in care, and reinforced my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. I now understand how critical compassionate, patient-centered care is not only for patients, but for families navigating loss long before death. Alzheimer’s took my grandfather from us in stages, but the lessons I learned from caring for him will stay with me forever.
    RELEVANCE Scholarship
Every experience in my life has played a role in shaping who I am today and why I am pursuing a career in medicine. My personal challenges did not push me away from hardship; they taught me how to face it with resilience, empathy, and purpose. Growing up in a single-parent household, later becoming a single mother myself, and navigating education while balancing family and financial responsibilities have all deeply influenced my decision to pursue a career in healthcare. From a young age, I learned that life does not always offer ideal circumstances. I watched my mother work multiple jobs to support four children, and I saw firsthand the physical and emotional toll that constant stress and limited resources can have on a person’s health. These early experiences made me aware of how closely health is tied to stability, access, and support. They also showed me how critical compassionate care can be for individuals and families who are simply trying to survive and move forward. As an adult, my challenges became more personal. Navigating healthcare systems as a patient, a caregiver, and a parent opened my eyes to how intimidating and overwhelming medical environments can feel. I experienced moments where clear communication, patience, and empathy from healthcare professionals made all the difference, and moments where the absence of those qualities created fear and frustration. These experiences helped me realize that medicine is not only about diagnosis and treatment, but about human connection and trust. My journey into healthcare is rooted in these lived experiences. They have taught me how to listen, how to remain calm under pressure, and how to recognize that every patient carries a story beyond their chart. My challenges strengthened my ability to empathize with others, particularly those facing uncertainty, fear, or limited support. They also reinforced my desire to advocate for patients who may not always feel heard or understood. In healthcare, I plan to use my experiences to make a positive impact by providing care that is compassionate, patient-centered, and respectful. I want to be a professional who understands that small actions explaining a procedure, offering reassurance, or simply taking time to listen can greatly influence a patient’s experience and outcome. My background allows me to approach care with humility and awareness, recognizing that each patient’s journey is unique. The RELEVANCE Scholarship emphasizes that every experience shapes who we become, and my challenges have shaped me into someone who values service, resilience, and empathy. They have given my pursuit of medicine meaning and direction. I am committed to using my education and experiences to contribute to a healthcare system that values dignity, understanding, and compassionate care. Through medicine, I hope to turn my challenges into purpose and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
    Kristinspiration Scholarship
Education is important to me because it represents opportunity, stability, and the power to change not only my own life, but the future of my family. Growing up in a single-parent household, I learned early on that education can be a pathway to security and independence, especially when resources are limited. I watched my mother work multiple jobs just to provide for us, and while she gave everything she could, I also saw how challenging life can be without access to higher education and long-term career stability. Those experiences planted the seed for why education matters so deeply to me today. As a single mother myself, education has taken on an even greater meaning. It is no longer just about personal growth or achievement it is about building a better future for my child. Pursuing my education in Health Science requires sacrifice, time management, and perseverance, but I view it as an investment not only in my career, but in the example I set for my child. I want her to see that education is worth the effort, even when life feels overwhelming, and that persistence can open doors that once seemed out of reach. Education has also given me confidence and purpose. Through my studies, I am gaining knowledge that allows me to better understand the world around me, particularly in the healthcare field. Learning has helped me develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and a deeper awareness of how education and access to information can improve lives. It has shown me that knowledge is not just about textbooks or exams, but about being informed, prepared, and capable of contributing meaningfully to society. The legacy I hope to leave is one rooted in resilience, compassion, and service. I want to be remembered as someone who did not let circumstances define limitations, but instead used education as a tool to create change. I hope to leave behind a legacy that shows my child and others who may be facing similar challenges that it is possible to break cycles, pursue goals, and build a life grounded in purpose and integrity. In my future career in healthcare, I hope my legacy reflects empathy and dedication to helping others. I want to positively impact the lives of patients and families by providing care that is respectful, compassionate, and informed. More importantly, I want my child to grow up knowing that education gave her mother the ability to serve others, stand independently, and give back to the community. Ultimately, education is important to me because it empowers growth, creates opportunity, and builds lasting change. The legacy I hope to leave is one of perseverance, love, and the belief that education can transform lives for generations to come.

I believe my unique talents and skills come from a combination of lived experience, resilience, and a deep ability to empathize with others. Growing up in a single-parent household, becoming a single mother myself, and navigating education while balancing real-life responsibilities have shaped the way I see the world. These experiences have taught me how to listen, understand, and connect with people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and circumstances. I carry those lessons into everything I do. One of my strongest skills is communication. I have learned how important it is to truly listen not just to respond, but to understand. Many people feel unheard or misunderstood, especially when they are facing stress, fear, or uncertainty. I strive to create spaces where people feel safe expressing themselves, whether that is through conversation, support, or simply being present. This ability to connect with others allows me to approach situations with empathy rather than judgment, which I believe is essential to building a more understanding global community. Another talent I bring is resilience. Life has not always been easy, but those challenges have taught me patience, adaptability, and compassion. Instead of allowing hardship to create division, I use it as a way to relate to others who may be struggling. I understand that everyone carries unseen burdens, and that awareness shapes how I treat people with kindness, respect, and grace. Resilience has also taught me the importance of leading by example and showing that growth is possible, even when circumstances are difficult. As a Health Science student, I plan to use my education to further promote empathy on a larger scale. Healthcare is one of the most universal human experiences, and it often brings people together across cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. By working in healthcare, I will have the opportunity to support individuals during vulnerable moments, communicate with compassion, and advocate for patient-centered care. I believe that treating people with dignity and understanding especially when they are afraid or uncertain can create meaningful change far beyond a single interaction. In the future, I hope to contribute to a global community that values empathy, education, and respect. I want to use my voice, my experiences, and my education to help bridge gaps in understanding, particularly for underserved or marginalized populations. Whether through healthcare, education, or community outreach, my goal is to help people feel seen, valued, and supported. Ultimately, I believe empathy is built through small, intentional actions. By using my talents to listen, educate, and serve others with compassion, I hope to help create a world that is more understanding, connected, and humane one interaction at a time.

Giving back has always been an important part of my life, even during times when my own resources were limited. Currently, I give back in the ways I am able to through my role as a parent, a student, and a member of my community. I strive to model kindness, perseverance, and integrity in my everyday actions, knowing that the values I instill in her will have a lasting impact beyond our own household. In my daily life, I also give back by supporting and encouraging others around me. Whether it is helping classmates, offering guidance to friends who are navigating difficult situations, or being a listening ear for someone who needs support, I believe small acts of service matter. My decision to pursue a career in the medical field was inspired by a combination of personal life experiences, my role as a parent, and my growing understanding of how meaningful compassionate healthcare can be. From an early age, I learned the value of resilience, responsibility, and caring for others, and those lessons have continued to shape the direction of my life. Over time, they naturally led me toward a career where I could support people during some of their most vulnerable moments. As a single mother, I have had firsthand experiences navigating healthcare systems not only for myself, but also for my child and family members. I’ve seen how intimidating medical environments can feel, especially when stress, uncertainty, or financial strain are involved. These experiences opened my eyes to the importance of healthcare professionals who not only provide medical care, but also offer patience, reassurance, and clear communication. I realized that the people who made the biggest difference were not always the ones performing the most complex procedures, but those who took the time to listen and treat patients with dignity and compassion. My education in Health Science has further strengthened my desire to work in the medical field. Through my coursework, I am learning how the human body functions, how illness and prevention are connected, and how education plays a crucial role in long-term health outcomes. I have developed a strong interest in patient-centered and allied health roles because they allow professionals to combine technical skill with human connection. These roles are essential to accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and overall patient experience, and they offer the opportunity to make a real, daily impact. I plan to make a difference in the medical field by providing care that is not only competent, but compassionate. I want to be someone patients feel comfortable with someone who understands that behind every chart or diagnosis is a person with fears, questions, and a story. Through patient education, preventative care, and supportive communication, I hope to help individuals feel empowered and informed about their health. In addition to caring for patients, I want to be an advocate for accessible and ethical healthcare. I believe that everyone deserves respect, understanding, and quality care, regardless of their background or circumstances. My goal is to contribute to a healthcare environment that values empathy, integrity, and lifelong learning. Ultimately, pursuing a career in the medical field is about purpose for me. It allows me to support my family, serve my community, and model perseverance and compassion for my child. Through my education and future career, I hope to make a lasting difference one patient, one interaction, and one moment at a time.

My faith plays a central role in how I live my life and how I treat others on a daily basis. It guides my decisions, shapes my values, and reminds me of the importance of compassion, responsibility, and respect for all human life. Living out my faith is not limited to words or beliefs, but is reflected in my actions, my choices, and the way I support and care for those around me. As someone who holds Pro Life values, I believe deeply in protecting life at all stages and honoring the dignity and worth of every individual. In my day-to-day life, I actively live out my faith by choosing empathy, patience, and understanding, especially in situations that are challenging or emotionally complex. I strive to lead with kindness, offer support without judgment, and be present for others who may be struggling. Supporting Pro Life values, to me, means more than a belief it means advocating for life through encouragement, education, and care. It means recognizing that many individuals face difficult circumstances and need compassion, resources, and guidance rather than condemnation. I believe that offering support to mothers, families, and individuals in vulnerable situations is one of the most meaningful ways to live out both faith and Pro Life principles. My faith has strongly influenced my future goals and career path, particularly my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. I am drawn to healthcare because it allows me to serve others during some of the most critical and vulnerable moments of their lives. Whether it is caring for patients, providing education, or supporting preventative health efforts, healthcare offers the opportunity to protect life, promote well being, and advocate for dignity and ethical care. My faith reinforces my commitment to serving with integrity, compassion, and respect. As a single mother, my faith also influences how I approach parenthood and the future I am building for my child. I want to lead by example, showing her that life is sacred, that challenges can be met with strength, and that education is a powerful tool for creating change. I believe that protecting life begins with creating environments where people feel supported, informed, and valued. Through my education in Health Science, I plan to enact change by promoting preventative care, patient education, and compassionate healthcare practices that respect life at every stage. I hope to be part of a healthcare system that supports families, protects the vulnerable, and upholds ethical standards rooted in respect for human dignity. By combining faith, education, and service, I aim to contribute to a future where life is protected, valued, and nurtured through knowledge, care, and compassion.

I grew up in a single-family household where my mother raised four children on her own three boys and me, the only girl. From a young age, I witnessed what true sacrifice and strength looked like. My mom worked three to four jobs at a time just to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, and to give us everything she possibly could. Life was not easy, and resources were often limited, but her determination never wavered. She made sure we had what we needed, even if it meant putting her own needs last. Being the only girl in a household with three brothers shaped me in many ways. I learned early how to be resilient, independent, and strong willed. At the same time, I also learned responsibility at a young age. My mom relied on structure, discipline, and consistency to keep our household running, and she was very strict. At the time, I didn’t always understand her rules or the boundaries she enforced, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate them deeply. Her strictness came from love and from wanting to protect us and prepare us for the realities of life. Watching my mom juggle multiple jobs while still making time for us left a lasting impression on me. She showed me what it meant to work hard without complaint and to keep moving forward no matter how exhausted or overwhelmed she must have felt. Even when she was tired, she made sure we knew the importance of respect, accountability, and perseverance. Those lessons were not always taught through words, but through her actions. Growing up in that environment taught me that stability is not defined by wealth, but by effort and consistency. It also taught me empathy for others who are struggling. I learned to appreciate the value of hard work and to never take opportunities for granted. Those early experiences helped shape my character and instilled in me a strong sense of determination and gratitude. Now, as a single mother myself, I see my mom’s influence in the way I parent and approach life. I understand the sacrifices she made in a deeper way than I ever could as a child. Her example motivates me to work hard, pursue my education, and create a better future for my child. I strive to provide the same sense of stability, structure, and love that my mother gave us, even when circumstances are challenging. Growing up in a single parent household with a hardworking, disciplined mother shaped me into the person I am today. It taught me resilience, responsibility, and the importance of never giving up. Those lessons continue to guide my education, my parenting, and my goals for the future, and I carry them with me in everything I do.

I am a Health Science student currently pursuing my Associate degree, a single mother, and someone who is deeply motivated by the desire to build a stable and meaningful future for my family. My path into healthcare has been shaped by both my education and my personal life experiences. Being a parent has taught me responsibility, patience, and empathy, and those qualities have naturally guided me toward a career focused on helping and supporting others during vulnerable moments. My interest in the healthcare and medical field comes from a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives in a practical and compassionate way. As I continue my studies in Health Science, I am learning how the human body works, how illness and prevention intersect, and how education plays a critical role in long-term health outcomes. I am especially drawn to patient-centered roles within healthcare because they allow professionals to not only provide care, but also to educate, reassure, and advocate for patients. I plan to continue my education and pursue a career within the allied health and diagnostic side of healthcare, with a strong interest in fields such as diagnostic imaging and other patient-focused medical roles. What attracts me to this area is the balance between technical skill and human connection. Diagnostic and allied health professionals play a vital role in early detection, treatment planning, and overall patient care, often serving as the bridge between patients and physicians. I am passionate about being part of that process and contributing to accurate, compassionate, and timely care. As a single mother, I understand how overwhelming medical environments can feel, especially when stress, uncertainty, or financial concerns are involved. I want to be someone who helps patients feel seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to create a sense of comfort and trust while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail. I believe healthcare should be delivered with both competence and compassion, and I strive to bring that mindset into my future career. Pursuing a career in healthcare also represents stability, growth, and purpose for me. I want to model resilience, dedication, and service for my child by showing her that education and perseverance can open doors, even in the face of challenges. Healthcare allows me to build a career that not only supports my family, but also gives back to the community in a meaningful way. Ultimately, my goal is to build a long-term career in healthcare where I can continue learning, supporting patients, and making a positive impact. I am committed to using my education, experiences, and compassion to contribute to better health outcomes and to serve others with dignity, respect, and care.

My best friend is my boyfriend, and what makes our relationship so meaningful is that it was built on a foundation of genuine friendship long before it became romantic. He didn’t enter my life trying to rescue me or change me. Instead, he showed up with consistency, patience, and understanding. Through everyday conversations, shared laughter, and moments of honesty, he slowly became the one person I could always count on. That reliability is what turned our connection into something deeper and lasting. One of the defining moments in our friendship was realizing I could be completely myself around him. As a single mother and a student, my life is full of responsibilities, challenges, and moments of exhaustion. There are times when I question myself or feel overwhelmed by everything I carry. He never made me feel like those struggles were too much. Instead, he listened without judgment, encouraged me when I doubted myself, and reminded me of my strength when I couldn’t see it on my own. That emotional safety is what made him my best friend before anything else. What truly sets him apart is how he shows up in the everyday moments. He celebrates my small wins just as much as the big ones. He supports my goals, my education, and my dreams without hesitation. When life feels heavy, he brings calm instead of chaos. When I feel uncertain, he offers reassurance without trying to control the outcome. Watching how he handles challenges with patience, integrity, and resilience has made him a role model in my life. He leads by example, and his actions consistently reflect his values. He is my hero not because he tries to be, but because of the way he loves. He loves with consistency, loyalty, and respect. He stands beside me as I work toward a better future for myself and my child. He believes in me even during moments when I struggle to believe in myself. Through his support, I’ve learned what true partnership looks like — teamwork, communication, and mutual growth. This friendship is important to me because it is rooted in trust, honesty, laughter, and shared values. It is a relationship where I feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow. He is my best friend, my partner, my role model, and the love of my life. Our relationship reminds me every day that the strongest connections are built on genuine friendship and sustained by unwavering support and love.

As a Health Science student and single mother, I have learned that meaningful health changes rarely happen overnight. Most people want to be healthier, but daily stress, limited time, and lack of support often make wellness feel overwhelming. Through both life experience and education, I have come to believe strongly in Dr. Steve Aldana’s message that lasting health improvements are built through small, sustainable habits practiced every day. Balancing school, parenting, and financial responsibilities has shown me how unrealistic “all or nothing” health advice can be. I have learned that progress comes from consistency, not perfection. Simple routines like meal planning, staying active in manageable ways, prioritizing sleep, and paying attention to mental health can create powerful change over time. These lessons are not only personal, but foundational to how I want to approach my future career in healthcare. My education in Health Science is giving me the tools to understand how prevention, education, and early intervention improve long-term outcomes. I am learning how lifestyle choices impact chronic disease, workplace performance, and overall quality of life. More importantly, I am learning how education empowers people to make informed decisions about their health. This knowledge allows me to connect science with practical, real-life solutions. I plan to use my education to support wellness in ways that feel attainable and inclusive. Whether working directly with patients, supporting preventative care initiatives, or contributing to healthier workplace environments, I want to encourage habits that fit into people’s actual lives. I believe wellness programs are most effective when they acknowledge real challenges and provide realistic strategies instead of unrealistic expectations. As a single mother, I am especially motivated to model healthy habits for my child. I want her to see that caring for your health is not about extremes, but about daily choices and self-awareness. By leading through example, I hope to show her that small efforts add up and that long-term wellness is achievable. Continuing Dr. Aldana’s mission means promoting health that is sustainable, compassionate, and practical. It means meeting people where they are, encouraging progress over perfection, and helping individuals and workplaces build healthier routines one step at a time. Through education, empathy, and commitment, I hope to contribute to lasting wellness in my community. I am committed to using my education to create positive change, support healthier habits, and help others believe that sustainable wellness is possible for families and communities everywhere.
