I was born in the United States but raised in Mexico. I moved on my own to Jackson, Wy in June 2019, I thought would be temporary and even though English was a language with which I had no relation (can't even read, write, speak or understand), I saw opportunities that I'd never have imagined in Mexico. My first job here was in a restaurant at the salad bar, I had no experience at all but always kept me positive as it was something new to me and I enjoyed learning these skills. Although I liked my job, I still didn't learn English because the people I worked with were always Hispanic, I was honestly sad as I couldn't communicate with people when I went to the bank or bought fast food, so I decided to enroll in High School. All my life I've enjoyed going to school, always trying to maintain good grades, I also wished to learn English and really felt that returning to school in this country was going to be a great opportunity. I spent my junior and senior years at Jackson Hole High School then graduated in 2021. Since my parents live in Mexico and they don't send me any money due to the fact they can't even afford it, I didn't know if there was a possibility of being able to enter college because although I worked afternoons after school in a restaurant, and weekends in a hotel as a housekeeper, I barely got the money to pay for rent, food, and basic needs, I honestly wasn't going to be able to cover an extra expense like college. Thanks to the help of my counselor in my last year of high school, I was able to apply for many scholarships that made my admission to Central Wyoming College possible. Applying for scholarships has been the path that has allowed me to continue studying, and I'm very grateful for that. Currently, this is my second year at CWC and I really want to transfer to the University of Wyoming next fall to study international business or relationships and get a Bachelor's degree and hopefully in the future continue beyond to get a Master's degree. One more thing I'm going through now is that I'm helping my mom to be a resident of this country. She came to live with me in March 2022 and we're still in the waiting process. She recently received her work permit and is looking for a job, but since she arrived and for now I am covering the financial expenses of both.
