My decision to pursue nursing is deeply rooted in both my earliest life experiences and my ongoing commitment to helping others. I am currently a nursing student, and I strive to lead with kindness, dedication, and reliability, qualities that I believe are essential in healthcare. From a young age, I have seen how compassionate nursing care can shape lives, and those experiences inspired me to follow this path with purpose.
My passion for nursing began 18 years ago, when my twin brother and I spent our first weeks of life in the NICU after being born six weeks premature. During that time, nurses cared not only for our medical needs but also for my parents, teaching them how to support our growth and health at home. As I grew older, I came to understand how meaningful that guidance and reassurance were for my family. Seeing how nurses educate, advocate, and support families during vulnerable moments inspired me to pursue pediatric nursing so I can provide that same level of care to others.
My desire to focus on prevention and long-term health was further shaped by witnessing the effects of diabetes within my family. Both of my uncles struggled with the disease, and I saw firsthand how challenging it is/was for them to manage their health over time. Diabetes affected nearly every aspect of their lives, from daily routines and eating habits to their overall energy, independence, and quality of life. Despite efforts to manage their condition, complications gradually took a toll, creating physical limitations and emotional strain for both them and our family. Both are/were dialysis dependent and in need of a kidney transplant. One uncle is still waiting and my other uncle passed away this past December.
Losing one of my uncles at the age of 46 was especially impactful. His passing made it painfully clear how serious and life-altering chronic illness can be, and how much earlier education, support, and preventive care might have changed the course of his health. Watching my family navigate fear, loss, and unanswered questions helped me understand the importance of early intervention and realistic health education. These experiences instilled in me a strong desire to help future patients and families recognize how everyday choices, particularly nutrition and lifestyle habits, can significantly influence long-term health outcomes.
I am especially drawn to working with children and their families because pediatric nursing allows for early education and intervention. Children often cannot fully communicate their needs, which makes advocacy and family involvement essential. I hope to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where families feel empowered to ask questions and take manageable steps toward healthier habits.
My education and clinical experiences continue to reinforce my career choice. I recently completed my first semester of nursing school at Purdue University Northwest with a 4.0 GPA. I also work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital, where I have learned the importance of compassionate, holistic care and attentive listening. Coursework in Healthcare, Honors Biology, AP Psychology, and Early Childhood strengthened my understanding of how physical, emotional, and developmental health are deeply interconnected.
I am committed to becoming a pediatric nurse who advocates fiercely, educates thoughtfully, and leads with empathy. Nursing allows me to turn personal loss into purpose by helping children and families build healthier futures, and I am honored to pursue this path.
1. Although I do not have direct experience with a disease myself, I see it every day. My mom battles Crohn's Disease and struggles with all the challenges that come a long with that lifestyle. An ostomy is her greatest fear, and we truly hope she never needs one. This is where I think education and great patient care make the difference. She has a great clinical support system who helps her maintain this disease and keeps her as healthy as she can be. That is the type of clinical support I hope to be for my patients in the future.
I am grateful for your time and consideration.
