My father figure in my life is my dad, and I don't know who I would be today without him. He has shown nothing but love and affection for me, working hard to provide for me and my family every day. He has shown me the value of hard work and how it pays off in the long run, while also teaching me not to forget what the most important things in life are.
When I was younger, me and my sister would get into arguments, and when my dad was there, he wouldn't harp on us to stop arguing, but rather he would sit down and hear each side of the argument and then help figure out a solution. Now that I am older, I sit back and look at how vital it is to listen to each other, rather than just constantly bicker and fight about something that might have a simple fix. There have also been times where my dad has asked me to mow the lawn, trim the hedges, water the plants in our garden. Sometimes I would be reluctant to do it, where I would rather just stay inside and do nothing however; when I eventually went outside to help him, firstly, we would get the job done faster, but more importantly, after we had finished and gone back inside, I soon felt more accomplished knowing that I done something time-consuming but also fulfilling. Due to that reason, and the repetition, I would rather go outside to help my father out; to make his life a little easier. While these are only some of the reasons my dad is so special, I think what actually makes him so is his way of helping me understand that going after your dreams is a great purpose, but to never forget who helped me out along the way. He made realize that helping other people, regardless of a reward, is what really mattered. People tend forget their roots after achieving great things, and I am so grateful my father raised me the way I am today.
To show to him how grateful I to him, I go to church with him every Sunday, I help him out outside in the yard, I try to spend as much time with him as possible every day, regardless of the activity, I try to love him as much he loves me, and that I would be happy to be half the man he is.
