A “sense of presence” means that a student feels seen, confident, and aware of their ability to exist meaningfully in the world. For students in special education, this idea is especially powerful. Many face challenges that can cause them to feel overlooked, discouraged, or defined by their limitations. As a future special education teacher, I am passionate about helping these students discover their strengths and develop confidence in who they are. My passion for teaching began with my goal of becoming a middle school educator, but over time, I have developed a deeper appreciation for the impact teachers can have on students who need additional support. In my fall 2025 semester I took an introduction to special education class, in which I learnt different types of special needs, and how we can help with those needs with technology, and in that semester I toured different schools observing in class what teaching special needs looks like, and spent time at our local ADVO a center for people with special needs, and even volunteered there for a few occasions, including their christmas party. Ultimately, my passion for special education comes from my desire to make a difference in the lives of students who need it most. By helping students develop a sense of their own presence, I can give them the confidence to face challenges, pursue their goals, and recognize their worth. My name is Alexander Prescott, I am 19 years old, and I attend Amarillo college, and I am studying music education. I have always had a major passion for music since a child, in middle school I learned how to play bass back when I was 12, and I have been playing bass since then, playing with my middle school, highschool, Amarillo regionals, and my college group. Around my junior year of highschool I picked up guitar and took guitar lessons, and I have been playing guitar now for almost 3 years and can play both acoustic and electric, and recently picked up bass guitar. My passion for my music education came from senior year of highschool where I was enrolled in AP music theory with 4 other students, and for the whole year, while struggling a bit, quickly realized how much there is to music theory and how much one day I would like to be a music educator, that being in music theory, or being a director, or even a private tutor. During middle and high school, until I turned 18 I was involved with the boy scout program and I reached the eagle scout rank, during my years of scouting one of my favorite merit badges I took was the music merit badge, where you had to research different types of music, and demonstrate how unique instruments work, and play in one organization for a concert, after completing this merit badge, I became certified to teach that merit badge and helped other scouts get started on it. In that same time frame I also began composing, not the best, music to practice and familiarizing myself with composition, and some theory; and then I practiced different scales and styles of playing. These skills today help me be a professional instrument player on guitar and bass, and helped to improve my skills to where it is now. After completing my degree my ultimate passion is to study more music theory and understand how it works and where it's practiced, as to me this is such an intriguing concept, and I would love to start composing music of my own, with actual theory would sound good, and be competent music. On the side or as my backup I would love to become a tutor for stand up bass, and teach young and aspiring new bass players how the instrument works, and teach them all the style and ideas behind it. Music has always been one of my greatest passions and I hope to one day share my passion for it to the masses outside of school contests and performances, thank you for your consideration!

Some of my earliest memories from early childhood and elementary school stem back to when my parents would take time from their busy lives and work just to watch me perform at a play or concert for school or just take time to play catch or watch tv shows with me. In elementary school my favorite teachers who I always liked seemed to care for me and everyone else, and always chatted with us students and stepped in to stop bullying. As a former bullied kid in elementary school, I very well remember the teachers who I could rely on for support and backed me up, and without them I'm unsure how my upbringing could have been altered had I not been helped in my early development. My name is Alexander Prescott, I'm currently 19 finishing up year 1 of college. I have every since a young age I've always wanted to be an educator and work with child development as I have experienced excellent care as a child and have always wanted to share the development and love to future generations. I truly believe in that the way a child especially at a younger age, the way they are raised and the conditions they expirence daily affect how their brains grow. One of my passions is to therefore help culture younger minds into healthier mindsets and give them amazing childhood memories and development. During my adolescent years I was in the boy scout program and just 2 years ago achieved the eagle scout rank. During my years of being a boy scout I also worked at summer camps which worked directly with other scouts and during those years I would teach unique merit badges and skills that would help them in their lives and in scouting. I've always had a certain passion for development and education, and I'm working hard now towards the goal of eventually becoming a teacher, I'm currently attending Amarillo College, in Amarillo Texas. I participate as an officer in our teach club, where we have guest speakers and discuss certain events and how to become a trusted teacher or caregiver. During my college experience I have also visited other middle and elementary schools to observe in class demonstrations and observe the cultures and environment of the students and the teacher in the class, and what makes a teacher stand out as good and a trusted caregiver. My hope is that one day with all my knowledge and experience I want to become a very well liked educator especially in an early development environment so I can foster younger minds and help them learn skills that'll help them with communication, and provide them memories that will stay with them and help them grow up as they go along, and I want to share the same support my teachers so long ago once showed me.
