I hope to become a physician. I’ve always wanted to help people and this will be my path to bless those who are sick. I have excellent health mentors and have worked alongside them for 3 years learning everything I could. I am hopeful to get enough financial support to start my college education in the fall of 2026. Thank you for your support and consideration.

My name is Alexander Overton (Xander) and I am a high school senior graduating this May (2026). I have dreamed of being a physician since I was four years old. I am from a financially challenged area (GA) and family. I pray that you will consider me for your scholarship opportunity.
Being a student of color in a community that is 99.98% Caucasian has been more than an average challenge. Having to overcome an enormous racial presence has become a huge part of who I am today. The normal challenges most teens face plus the endless endurance I have experienced have shaped me into someone who wants to help the underprivileged and underserved communities. Medicine is a field that I feel will allow me to make the biggest impact for those individuals.
Pre-professional medicine involves intensive coursework, hands-on assignments, and research projects that require significant academic commitment, rigor, and workload for which I am prepared.
Tackling complex challenges often requires working in diverse teams and adapting to various professional approaches as I have been throughout my high school career. Having been an apprentice with our local surgical group has been a blessing!
STEM success in pre-professional medicine requires a willingness to engage in lifelong learning and stay updated with emerging technologies and innovations. This is why I know medicine is my future and helping people heal is my mission.
Being able to attend college in the STEM field requires enormous financial resources that I simply do not have. My passion to succeed in the stem program at UTC will hopefully give you reason to consider me as a candidate for your generous scholarship assistance. I know deep down in my heart and soul that this is exactly the path I am supposed to be on and with your help I dream of becoming the physician I have always known I would be.
Asking for any monetary assistance is very uncomfortable for me, but sometimes we have to come out of our comfort zone in order to achieve our dreams. I have always been someone who would try new things and do exactly what it takes to accomplish my goals. Asking you for assistance to help me do this is necessary for me to accomplish my STEM education and complete my undergraduate work.
I hope these considerations provide valuable insight into my personal academic and career aspirations.
Very grateful for your consideration,
Alexander Overton

My vision, for the future is for individuals to have access to help them physically, emotionally, and spiritually have a wonderful life. Whether this means healing them physically from what ails them, helping them find the right individual to guide them emotionally, or giving back to the community at a teaching level for students in underserved areas I am prepared and excited to help anyone and everyone I can no matter what they have or where they are from. Community actually starts deep down in everyone’s heart and it is so much easier to feel the love when you are loved and people care about you.

SPED for challenged ADHD children saved my life! Had it not been for the STEM SPED- I don’t not think I would be walking across the stage at UCHS to receive my diploma next month. Having those amazing teachers, paras, and Jesus made it all possible and now I know it’s time for me to give it all back and more to kids with challenges that some do not have to face.
When I was around the age of five, my school wanted my mom to medicate me in order to help me behave. Thank goodness, my mother, and educator, knew about the stem program for sped students and actually moved over 150 miles away to a community that offered it. That move was tortuous, and expensive, and my mom had to give up a job of 27 years teaching in our hometown in order to make it possible. She knew then that that was the only way that I had a chance of being successful in my educational career. I now know that it’s my turn to make this and similar programs available and accessible to other children in need regardless of where they live or how much money they have.

Moving to all all white, racially challenged, old minded, good ole boy, small mountain town when I was 9 years old from Atlanta… to say that I had to overcome diversity is a gross understatement. Every single day was a challenge in the beginning, and I had to constantly prove that I was not a bad guy just because of the color of my skin. It took every ounce of faith I had and some of my mom’s in order to survive those first couple of years. My mom constantly was in the Principal’s office reviewing whatever had happened the day prior to me as the teachers were the root of the evil. The blatant mistreatment of anyone who had a darker skin pigment was just outrageous and hasn’t gotten that much better to this day. Fortunately, I have Jesus and have had him all of my life. He has been there to hold my hand and reassure me that I am his and he is mine. Had it not been for him, I’m quite sure I would not have made it. But having him by my side, makes me know that I will do great and amazing things in his name.
