My name is Alex Goldsboro. I am 18 years old and plan on being a electrician. I have been taught to serve others and treat others with respect. I have been taught to do things with the best of my ability. I have grown up helping others. I plan on opening up my own electrical company one day so that people can afford an electrician, get quality service, and professional work. At the age of 3 I was adopted and my name changed from Jacob which the name meant deceiver, to Alex which means defender of mankind. Since I was adopted I have been taught to serve others with respect and with love. I have been taught to be a good worker, and anything I do to do it to the best of my ability. I love to fix things. It has always been apart of me. At home I am like the maintenance man fixing everything. I collect tools and try to fix things that need to be fixed. It is just part of me. I have grown up helping others. Any time anyone needs to move stuff out of building or needs help cleaning up a huge mess or decorating or catering for a party or even decorating my parents are there. My brothers and sisters and I have helped people move out of a house, we have cooked for people, we have cleaned and decorated and for my mom and dads job we have done almost all of the hard work for them. We have saved them money. Things that would normally be hired to do we did it. My parents would tell us that this is us serving others. We did not like it at the time but now I am thankful for all of that hard work because now I like helping others. If I see someone that needs help I will offer my services because it fills me with pride to be able to help others that need it. I plan on one day opening up my own electrical company one day. I want to do this because I have seen people get electricians that gave bad service, did not do good work at all, and charge outrageous prices for very bad work. At Electricians For Christ, I will provide quality service that the customers paid for. I will provide electricians that are trained by the best and that are qualified in every single way possible. I want my customers to have the best service ever and I will give that to them. And if I have any workers that cannot live up to that standard of giving good service and did not do good work they will not have any place in my company. Which any electrician in the field will not go in the field with my company unless I know the service that they give. All in all, I have been taught since day one to give good service and to give service that people want. I have been taught to serve others to the best of my ability and to be respectful. I have been raised helping others and I will continue to do so.

I am passionate about pursuing a degree in electrical construction because I want to one day open up my own electrical company. I also want to help people be able to afford an electrician and get high quality work for a price that can fit their budget. Lastly I have always been good at fixing things electrical and non-electrical things. It has always just been part of me. I think that I inherited it from my uncle and cousin's even though I am adopted. One day, once I have my electrical license, I plan on starting my own electrical company called Electricians For Christ. I have always seen lots of people who need an electrician but do not hire one because they are expensive. Also electrical companies are expensive and also they don't always provide good service. They also have workers that are ignorant and fixated and there own way. I want to provide the people of Texas with electricians that are trained by the best and qualified in every single way that there is. To provide them with workers that are professional and considerate of the customers and that are there to serve them their very best because they love their job. At the end of the day it is about the customer. I want to provide the people with quality service with them not having to call another electrician because the one before messed up. That is one reason why I want to pursue this degree. I have seen people and know people that have hired electricians and got poor service, poor work,and workers that did not seem to care. And the price that was charged was outrageous. With the company I will serve the people of Texas with respect and give them the service that they asked and paid for. I have always been taught to do things to the best of my ability. And that is what I will do for the people of Texas. People can't afford to continue to pay for bad service and poor work. I also want to give others one day the opportunity that you are giving me today and now with this scholarship to be able to pursue a career in this field as well. I have always been good at fixing things. It has been apart of me. I love being able to sit down and figure out how to fix something that is broken. Being able to fix electrical things is so fulfilling to me. It feels me with a since of pride. In fact my aunts church had a new building added on and I wired the sub-panel for the building and the wall sockets in the building. When I finished I was so proud about being able to help the church and about wiring the panel. That was so fun and fulfilling. I wanted to do more. This scholarship will help me to continue to help people and to feel the sense of pride and fulfillment. All in all, I am passionate about pursuing this career because I want to help people. I want to provide quality service. I want to help people afford an electrician. I want people to get professional work. And I love wiring and being able to help others. I love fixing things. I also thank you for giving me the chance to be able to tell you why I want to be an electrician.

The three trades plumbing, HVAC, and electrical have had a personal impact in my life because I did not start out able to even know that there was a luxury as these three trades. Before I was adopted that I was in a place where my mom had chose drugs and alcohol and selling herself over providing for me in my brothers and my little sister. We did not have electricity, or plumbing and we definitely did not have HVAC. I did not know any of these things existed. All of these trades are taken for granted because people have never experienced not having them. I do not think that this scholarship essay should be about how it has impacted your life. I think it should be about how we would live or survive without these three very simple trades in our lives. The truth is these days we would probably not be able to survive without them. As a kid I did have to live without them. I had to learn how to stay cool and how to stay warm and how to feed myself with which I had to take food illegally and this was all at the age of 2 to 3. Thankfully I have not had to worry about these things ever since I got adopted my true mom and dad 15 years ago. I have self taught myself to fix very complicated electrical things. I wired my first sub-panel a year ago with very little help and instruction. I wired wall sockets into the walls. These things I just did for a church. I wired ceiling fans to the roof. I know a little plumbing and I know a little bit about HVAC all from just watching and observing and my family take care of everything that they have fixed. Electricity is the main thing that I want to do so that I can help people have for an affordable price so that their kids do not have to without it. HVAC is something that I want to also include in my company one day as well, Really I want to have three companies in one. Electrical is the main one. This scholarship will help me be able to get the point where I can open my own company one day. I know this application was not meant to be about this but I had to change it. If I do not get this scholarship I understand but there comes a time where you haft to change something to get people attention. This was one. Some of the advice for this application was to give a personal story to separate it from everyone elses. I believe this will separate me from every one's because this was personal for me because I had to learn how to survive without these three trades at the age of three.
