I read books daily.
My name is Alanna Saxton, I am currently pursuing my associates degree in culinary arts. Like most students I require financial help in order to pursue my education. I am a student at Paul Smiths College. My chosen career is in the culinary field, but it is also where my passion lies. Food, a staple humanity has always been able to bond over. What started as baking cookies and helping with dinner, has transformed into something I never expected. My journey began at seven, helping my mother in the kitchen. By nine I had taken over cooking dinner on some nights. At fourteen I began working catering events hosted by my technical school. Preparing food, maintaining safe holding temperatures during transport, setting up venues. The days were long, but the result was always worth it. Different branches of the community sat in one room, sharing a meal. The smell of our food, dancing amidst the conversation, laughter, and joy from the meal. However, there are so many issues with the foodservice industry. Ranging from toxic kitchen dynamics, to the lack of sustainability across the nation. I will continue to further my education while advocating for change and work towards making a positive impact within and outside of the culinary world.
