When I was a freshman in high school, I attended a Fellowship of Christian Athletes weekend camp. I had no idea it would change my life forever. During a worship service that Friday night, my heart was completely wrecked by the Gospel. I broke down in tears knowing I needed a personal relationship with the Savior. I grew up in church, but never knew the importance of having my own relationship with Christ. I asked my huddle leader to pray with me, as I was struggling with anxiety. It took a lot of courage to ask for prayer, but God laid it on my heart that night. Not only did I want prayer for my current situation, but I also knew I needed to get my heart right with God. I got chill bumps at the words she prayed over me and felt God's presence in a totally new way. I could never truly put into words the effect that night had over me, as I felt like God had his arms wrapped around me. The worship music gave me chill bumps. I was surrounded by friends brothers and sisters in Christ who cared deeply for me. After that moment I knew I needed God, and have had a relationship with Him ever since. Christ has impacted my life by giving me hope and a future. I am a naturally worried person. With Christ, I can trust that He has a plan for my life that is good. I know that at the end of the day, the only thing that truly matters is God.
Now, I attend Williams Baptist University. I am receiving a faith-based education in family studies. My goal is to get an undergraduate degree in family studies and pursue a graduate degree in marriage and family therapy. With these degrees, I hope to give clients faith-based counseling. I have always had a heart for people, especially those in need. With this degree, I can not only do what I love (which is helping others), but I can also spread the good news with a heart for Christ. I believe that I have been put on this earth to glorify God for a specific purpose, and I know that this purpose is therapy. Too often Christians feel shame for getting help from professionals, and I want to provide a safe and God-loving space for Christians and nonbelievers to come and receive the help they need. This way I can also minister and be a disciple of Christ.
