After dedicating myself to volleyball for over eight years, I took a step back from the sport to focus on other pursuits. One area of focus includes Project Eunoia, an organization I co-founded that aims to make education accessible to children in underserved communities.
Despite setbacks, I have donated 500+ books and provided 300+ hours of tutoring to children in my community and the El Salvador community. I have fought through economic barriers and engaged with various leaders in my community to make a change.
Apart from my service-based organization, I maintain involvement in my school. I dedicated hours towards my campaign which resulted in my election as Vice President of Student Council. I am also involved in NHS, Spanish NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, and clubs including Girls Learning International, Entrepreneurship, and Interact.
I further my education outside school through programs such as Stanford Summer Session, Texas Girls Bluebonnet State, and Rotary Youth Leader Awards. It is through these intensive programs that I have gained knowledge and leadership skills to grow my community.
My drive for success is rooted in my willingness to try new things. I have flown airplanes, scaled cliffs, and dived in harsh seas. These adventures have placed me in life-or-death situations, challenging me to come up with quick solutions.
I aim to further my education at a 4-year university while serving my community through Project Eunoia. This is why I have looked to Bold.org to provide me with the opportunity to win scholarships so that I can achieve my goals.

Who Shook Up the Penthouse? : The Ultimate Crossover between “Shake It Up” and “Jessie”
The episode begins with CeCe (Bella Thorne) and Rocky (Zendaya) eagerly preparing for their usual dance practice at the Shake It Up Chicago studio. However, their excitement is short-lived when Gary Wilde announces an unexpected closure for maintenance. With the entire day suddenly free, CeCe and Rocky brainstorm ways to make the most of their time off.
Meanwhile, over at the Ross penthouse, Jessie (Debby Ryan) is frantically preparing for a last-minute audition. She's torn between pursuing her acting dreams and fulfilling her duties as the Ross kids' nanny. As she juggles scripts and wardrobe changes, she realizes she needs a trustworthy set of hands to watch over the kids.
Enter CeCe and Rocky, who, in the spirit of spontaneity, decided to explore the city. However, their plans take an unexpected turn when they bump into Jessie in the lobby of the Ross building. Sensing the urgency in Jessie's situation, the girls offer to help by taking care of the Ross kids for the day. Jessie, grateful for the assistance, provides a brief rundown of each child's quirks and preferences.
As CeCe and Rocky step into the Ross penthouse, they are greeted by the lively trio – Emma (Peyton List), Luke (Cameron Boyce), and Zuri (Skai Jackson). The girls quickly learn that babysitting the Ross kids is no easy task, especially when Zuri insists on a dance lesson, Emma seeks fashion advice, and Luke challenges them to a dance-off.
The penthouse transforms into a chaotic dance floor as CeCe and Rocky showcase their moves, attempting to teach Zuri some hip-hop choreography. Meanwhile, Emma raids CeCe's wardrobe for a fashion makeover.
Back at the dance studio, Jessie lands the acting role and gets caught up in the glamour of showbiz. Little does she know, the Ross kids are having the time of their lives with their temporary babysitters.
The chaos escalates when Flynn (Davis Cleveland), the mischievous younger brother, decides to pull pranks on Bertram (Kevin Chamberlin), the sarcastic butler. The normally composed Bertram finds himself reluctantly participating in a dance routine initiated by Flynn, adding an extra layer of comedy to the episode. As the day unfolds, CeCe and Rocky manage to bring order to the madness through their unique blend of dance and friendship. When Jessie finally returns home, she is met with the surprising sight of a peaceful and content group of kids.
In a heartwarming conclusion, CeCe and Rocky bid farewell to the Ross kids, promising to return for a dance party once the Shake It Up Chicago studio reopens. The episode closes with a final dance scene in the Ross penthouse, featuring the entire cast dancing to a lively and upbeat track, emphasizing the joy and unity that comes from shared experiences.
The crossover episode leaves viewers with a sense of laughter, friendship, and the realization that sometimes, unexpected alliances can lead to the most memorable moments.
Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
As I look at the bookshelf in my room, I can see the dozens of books that I purchased solely because of how influential #BookTok has been. I saw a TikTok the other day that says “You’re not really on BookTok if you haven’t started your own secret BookTok account.” I laughed so hard because it’s true. I was so influenced by BookTok that I started my own account. It took off quite a bit! This incredible influence is why I know my ideal bookshelf is flawless. It includes four fantastic reads: "Ugly Love" by Colleen Hoover, "Red, White and Royal Blue" by Casey McQuiston, "Magnolia Parks" by Jessa Hastings, and "Atomic Habits" by James Clear.
Book lovers are known to have strong opinions, so it’s no surprise that Colleen Hoover has been quite the hot topic and her writing style has received tons of hate. But, it’s impossible to look past the incredible storyline she builds in her novel, "All Your Perfects". On a day when you want to have your heart truly shattered, start with this literary masterpiece. Generally, I hate novels that start with love interests who are already married, but this one is different. Through uncontrollable factors, Graham and Quinn cannot make their relationship work. These characters will both act in controversial ways, but I can’t help but defend both of them. They’re bonded because of incredibly similar past traumas and a very special meet-cute. This is a plot that breaks your heart and heals it at the same time. Arguably, it’s a tearjerker, but it's undeniably a chef’s kiss.
After having your heart shattered, it’s time to get therapy. That’s why I recommend the second book on my shelf, "Red, White and Royal Blue". This is such an easy read. The First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry display the enemies-to-lovers and the forbidden love tropes. It’s incredibly lighthearted and you’re cheering the couple on the entire way. And of course, I feel a special connection to Alex who is from the state I live in, Texas (#hornsup). After you finish the novel, go to Amazon Prime to watch the "Red, White and Royal Blue" movie. It’s truly one of my favorites as it portrays the characters even better (looking) than I imagined…
After some much-needed therapy, it’s time to break your heart again. Read "Magnolia Parks by Jessica Hastings". It is the only book that I will allow the cheating trope. Think Gossip Girl, but better. BJ Ballentine, the male love interest, is so undeniably wrong for every terrible thing he has done, but I can’t help but love him. Magnolia Parks, the female love interest, is practically my best friend. Reading the book feels like you’re on a Facetime call with her as she unravels her complicated love life. It’s truly an emotional rollercoaster.
After you finish "Magnolia Parks", you can continue reading the rest of the books in the "Magnolia Parks Universe", or you can wonder what it’s like to be as rich as Magnolia. You’ll reconsider all of your life choices and conclude that you need to make money. That’s why "Atomic Habits" is the perfect book. No matter how much money you have in your bank account, after reading this book, you’ll feel ready to accomplish anything as you now know how to build sustainable habits. Not only will you feel like a weapon when reading this book in public, but you’ll also have a proper book to share. We all know what it’s like when an adult asks what your books are about, but you can't tell them.
GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
Olivia Rodrigo is harsh, but she’s also undeniably relatable. When she dropped the album "GUTS '', my expectations were high. How could she possibly top her previous album “SOUR”? When I listened to the album for the first time, one particular line caught my ears. It was in the song “the grudge”: "You have everything and you still want more." It’s like a stab in the chest because as much as I don’t want to admit that this lyric holds truth for me, it does. And that was the moment when I realized that “GUTS” may be her best album. “GUTS” truly encapsulates the inevitable nature of teenage life and desires within each lyric. Within teen life, there are many challenges including the pursuit of identity, validation, and fulfillment. It’s such a crucial phase of life that Olivia Rodrigo mastered to translate into words.
Adolescence is often marked by a need for more. Nothing is ever enough. We want more experiences, more validation, and more self-discovery. The lyric is so deep because it reflects a paradox, where teenagers may seem to have everything on the surface – youth, energy, and opportunities – yet feel a persistent void that cannot be easily filled.
Teenagers struggle with the quest for identity, a journey that involves navigating through societal expectations, peer pressure, and personal aspirations. The lyric captures the entire feel of this struggle, as adolescents strive to define themselves amidst the noise of external influences.
In the age of social media, where edited images of seemingly perfect lives are readily accessible, the desire for more is often fueled by constant comparisons. Societal pressures and standards are something that I am not immune from. They are definitely overwhelming and lead to dissatisfaction despite apparent success which is what the lyric is preaching.
Adolescence is a rollercoaster of emotions – from the exhilaration of freedom to the depths of heartbreak, a highly focused topic of Rodrigo. The lyric reflects the complexity of this period, highlighting how even with external accomplishments, internal struggles persist. And just because everything looks great on the outside, the reality may be the complete opposite.
Amidst the drive for more, teenagers want genuine connections and authentic relationships. The lyric hints at the loneliness that can accompany material success, emphasizing the importance of meaningful connections that go beyond surface-level achievements. As Rodrigo rose to fame, she endured this struggle. From a small child actress to a world-renowned pop star, she knows.
In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo's lyric "You have everything and you still want more" resonates deeply with the universal challenges of adolescence. It carries the paradoxical nature of this phase, where the pursuit of identity, validation, and genuine connection often leads to an unquenchable thirst for more. By exploring the intricate aspects of teenage experiences, the lyric encourages reflection on the journey of self-discovery and the complex emotions that accompany it.
Alicea Sperstad Rural Writer Scholarship
Education has always been at the forefront of my passions, driven by the profound influence of my grandmother, a dedicated teacher for nearly three decades. The realization of this passion materialized into Project Eunoia, a venture born from a commitment to addressing global educational disparities. As a co-founder of Project Eunoia, my aim is not just to provide education as a charity but to craft sustainable solutions that transcend borders, making a lasting impact on underserved communities worldwide.
The foundation of Project Eunoia lies in the exposure I gained through travels with my grandmother, witnessing the stark contrasts in educational opportunities around the world. This exposure instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility, compelling me to take concrete actions. Our journey began with book drives, but the true impact was felt when we personally delivered these books to children in need. This hands-on approach allowed us to connect with communities on a personal level and understand their unique educational challenges.
Yet, I could not complete the mission without writing. Writing has played a pivotal role in shaping and propelling my Project Eunoia journey, transforming it from a personal aspiration into a tangible force for change. The written word has been a powerful tool in conveying the mission, garnering support, and documenting the impact of our initiatives.
At the outset, writing served as a means to articulate the vision and goals of Project Eunoia. Crafting a compelling narrative allowed me to communicate the essence of our mission, conveying the urgency of addressing global educational disparities and the transformative potential of education. Through written communication, I was able to share the inspiration drawn from my grandmother's legacy and the experiences that fueled my commitment to making a difference in the realm of education.
Documenting our journey through various mediums, including blog posts, articles, and reports, has been instrumental in building a narrative of impact. These written records not only serve as a testament to our progress but also provide a platform to share success stories and the challenges we've encountered. The transparency afforded by these written reflections fosters accountability and trust among our supporters, demonstrating the concrete steps taken to fulfill our mission.
Moreover, writing has been a powerful advocacy tool for Project Eunoia. By articulating the importance of education and the specific challenges faced by underserved communities, we've been able to raise awareness on a broader scale. Engaging in persuasive writing, whether in grant applications or outreach materials, has been crucial in securing the resources and partnerships necessary to expand our initiatives and reach more communities.
Zendaya Superfan Scholarship
From Kindergarten to Senior year of high school, Zendaya has been a constant presence in my life, donning various hats as an entertainer—dancer, singer, actress, and activist. Reflecting on the evolution of her career over the thirteen years, it's clear that Zendaya has seamlessly transitioned from her early days on "Shake It Up" to her more recent and complex role in "Euphoria."
In my earliest memories of Zendaya, I recall starting my mornings with her on the TV screen. Her infectious energy, dancing, and singing left a lasting impression on my kindergarten self. During recess, my friends and I would gather on the field, attempting to recreate the choreography from her performances. It was a source of pure joy and inspiration, a testament to the impact of her work on young minds.
Fast forward to middle school, Zendaya's performance in Spider-Man left a lasting impression on me, especially when I had the opportunity to watch it unfold on the big screen in the movie theaters. Zendaya infused MJ with intelligence, wit, and a sense of independence that resonated powerfully. It wasn't just about her chemistry with Tom Holland's Spider-Man but also about her ability to convey a range of emotions that added layers to the narrative. Watching her on the big screen in Spider-Man wasn't just a cinematic experience; it was a testament to her ability to elevate a character and leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Fast forward to my Senior year of high school, and Zendaya continued to be a significant part of my life. Instead of the morning cartoons of my childhood, I ended my nights watching her in the intense and thought-provoking series "Euphoria." The transition from a Disney Channel star to a lead in a gritty, mature show like "Euphoria" showcased Zendaya's versatility and commitment to challenging herself as an actress.
What I admire most about Zendaya is her ability to grow and adapt. Many Disney Channel stars face difficulties in transitioning to adult acting roles, but Zendaya has navigated this journey with grace and success. She didn't shy away from challenging roles; instead, she embraced them, proving her acting capabilities and establishing herself as a force in the industry.
In essence, Zendaya's multifaceted career, marked by growth, versatility, and a commitment to positive change, is what I admire most. She has not only entertained me over the years but has also inspired me with her resilience, talent, and dedication to making a meaningful impact in the world.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Fan Scholarship
One summer, I dove into Jenny Han's Hans trilogy, spending three intense days absorbed in the captivating story. As the series eventually unfolded on Amazon Prime, my anticipation to see the beloved story on screen grew. Each week, I eagerly returned not for Belly's cringe-worthy moments but for the compelling dilemma she faced between Conrad and Jeremiah. The weekly watch parties that I would have with my friends amplified the show's twists and turns. Despite the emotional rollercoaster that this plot was, my loyalty to Team Conrad was unwavering.
Considering what I desired for Belly made me reflect on my own wishes: longevity and selflessness.
I don’t want to begin by bringing Jeremiah down, but here’s a crucial point that I must start with. While Jeremiah offered fleeting joys through grand gestures and nice actions, my concern was that his kindness would only provide Belly with short-term happiness and eventually no freedom. Jeremiah is a great guy with undeniable charm, but I know that he is that guy for everyone. What Belly needs is to find someone great and uniquely devoted to her since she always finds herself in drama. So, in this context, Conrad stood out as the one person embodying selfless characteristics toward Belly.
Conrad hasn’t always been the greatest guy, but an emotional response to his mother's passing added depth to his character, making him relatable. Although I haven't experienced such pain, I sympathized with Conrad's emotions and understood the reasoning for some of his behaviors that I would typically deem unacceptable.
Now for the main points: A pivotal moment in season two highlighted Conrad's complexity. A panic attack led to a breakup with Belly. During that scene, Conrad made the tough decision to drive away and leave the scene. This decision was made because he was prioritizing what he believed was in her best interest.
While both Conrad and Belly exhibited immaturity, Conrad consistently demonstrated a commitment to decisions guided by Belly's well-being. This is why I’m Team Conrad. I do not expect perfection from anyone. I don’t expect Conrad to always make the right choice, but I do expect him to make a choice with the right judgment. The fact that this is who Conrad is means that he could be the longevity that Belly needs.
Lastly, consider why Belly ended up with Jeremiah. It wasn't because Conrad couldn't have her but because Conrad selflessly let Jeremiah have her, knowing he couldn't provide what she needed. This selfless act embodies true love, even if their relationship might have been with the right person at the wrong time.
I support Team Conrad because no one else exhibits this kind of selflessness towards Belly. Conrad, unable to make her happy now, was grown enough to take a step away. This gave her happiness. In the long run, I know that Conrad will be the one for Belly, as he showcases love and selflessness.
Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
I love traveling around the world. I’ve seen the Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower, and Chichen Itza. Every time I see structures like those, I wonder how it’s possible to make them.
I love Minecraft because it provides me with some of the answers to my questions. Instead of wondering how to make them, I actually make them by placing digital blocks in my own Minecraft world.
When I'm carefully putting blocks together to make a famous building or landmark, it feels like I'm bringing something from reality into the game. It’s almost like Minecraft has become a way for me to appreciate and interact with real-world architecture in a cool and interactive way.
Recreating real-life structures is also a way for me to learn new things. I dive into the details of each project, exploring the history and architecture behind them. Whether it's the symmetry of the Eiffel Tower or the beauty of the Taj Mahal, each project is like a mini history and architecture lesson. It's not just about playing the game; it's about discovering and appreciating the different styles and stories behind these structures.
On another note, Minecraft is a way for me to take a break from the fast pace of everyday life. It's a bit like a creative escape. Placing blocks might seem repetitive, but it's also calming. It lets me take a break from the real world and just focus on creating something fun and cool.
Completing each project gives me a real sense of accomplishment. When I stand in front of a mini version of a real-world building I made in Minecraft, it feels good. It shows that I stuck with it, took my time, and made something I'm proud of. It's a lot like finishing a tricky puzzle or making a piece of art that you're happy with.
In the end, my love for recreating real-life structures in Minecraft is simple. It's a mix of liking real-world architecture, wanting to learn more, and finding a relaxing way to be creative. Each block I place is a step toward turning a digital space into a tribute to the amazing buildings that make up our world. Minecraft isn't just a game for me; it's a way to express what I love and celebrate the cool things people can build.

Picture this: a brilliant mastermind, El Profesor, recruits a diverse team of eight skilled criminals, each with a city as their code name, to execute a heist that goes beyond the typical bank robbery. His ambition? To print billions of euros within the impenetrable walls of the Royal Mint of Spain. The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the narrative is filled with unexpected twists that will keep you glued to the screen.
Now, you might be wondering, why couldn't authorities simply break into the Royal Mint and thwart El Profesor's grand plan. The answer lies in the intricacies of his strategy. El Profesor isn't just a criminal mastermind; he's a strategic genius. He anticipated the possibility of outside interference and took hostages within the Mint, turning the heist into a high-stakes hostage situation. These aren't just any hostages either. He strategically made sure that on the day of his robbery, there would be one specific hostage that would be of high value.
The hostages serve as both a shield and a bargaining chip, making any attempt to storm the Mint a perilous endeavor. The authorities find themselves caught in a delicate balance between apprehending the criminals and ensuring the safety of innocent lives. The tension escalates as negotiations unfold, with El Profesor leveraging his control over the hostages to manipulate the situation.
Did I mention that El Profesor is watching his entire plan from the outside? He's not even inside the Royal Mint.

Janean D. Watkins Overcoming Adversity Scholarship
Hello, I am Aja Johnson, a proud African-American and Korean woman born and raised in Texas. My journey toward a business major is deeply intertwined with my passion for education and my commitment to creating a brighter future for students in need. At the heart of my endeavors is Project Eunoia, an organization born out of my desire to make education accessible to children worldwide.
Growing up, I was inspired by my grandmother, a retired teacher with nearly three decades of experience. Her influence, combined with my father's mantra of "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars," has shaped my unique contributions to the world. These words underscore the importance of the journey, not just the destination, and have instilled in me a commitment to dreaming audaciously and tackling challenges with determination.
My experiences have indeed been extraordinary. From piloting planes to scaling cliffs in Mexico and navigating the turbulent waves of the Earth's seas, I've internalized the call to go big or go home. It's a mindset that fuels my passion for creating positive change, a mindset that aligns seamlessly with the audacious goals of Project Eunoia. The belief that asking for help is a courageous act of collaboration has been a guiding principle in both my personal and philanthropic pursuits. Just as I confide in aviation experts before taking flight, seek the guidance of lifeguards in the face of Earth's harshest elements, and collaborate with technicians to set the stage, Project Eunoia embodies this collaborative spirit.
Success, in my view, is built upon trust and teamwork. As I fearlessly embark on new adventures, my father's wisdom echoes in my heart. It's not just about individual accomplishments but about fostering collaboration, trust, and meticulous planning to ensure dreams are realized. This philosophy permeates every facet of Project Eunoia, from book drives in local neighborhoods to conferences with leaders from Australia and El Salvador. In pursuing my business major, I aim to carry forward the spirit of collaboration and audacious dreaming.
My long-term aspiration is to leverage the lessons learned from Project Eunoia and my diverse experiences to continue making meaningful contributions to a world that thrives on unity and shared dreams. Together, we can create a future where education is not a privilege but a universally accessible opportunity, and every child has the chance to experience the joy of reading and the power of beautiful thinking.
Yet dreams don’t come without challenges. I had a moment that tested my emotional strength. While leading Project Eunoia's efforts, I encountered a situation that brought about a sense of vulnerability. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by children in a community struck a chord deep within me. The stark reality of their struggles and the enormity of the task at hand overwhelmed my emotions. It was a moment of self-doubt, questioning whether my efforts were making a significant impact.
Overcoming this emotional weakness required a shift in perspective. I turned to my support network, seeking advice from mentors, friends, and fellow Project Eunoia team members. Their encouragement and shared commitment reignited my sense of purpose. It became clear that while the challenges were immense, the collective efforts of our collaborative spirit, guided by the belief that asking for help is an act of courage, could bring about positive change.
Colby R. Eggleston and Kyla Lee Entrepreneurship Award
Starting a business in my local community is a dream I've already turned into reality with Project Eunoia. This venture, rooted in my deep commitment to education, began as a tribute to my grandmother's influence and a burning desire to address global educational disparities. My grandmother, a devoted teacher for nearly three decades, played a pivotal role in instilling in me a love for learning. Our travels together exposed me to the vast differences in educational opportunities around the world, sparking a profound sense of responsibility within me.
Project Eunoia emerged not just as an abstract concept but as a tangible manifestation of my passion for education translated into action. Serving as a co-founder, I actively contributed to making education accessible to children. Our journey began with organizing book drives, but the real impact was felt when we personally delivered books to children in need.
The influence of Project Eunoia extended beyond borders through collaborations and conferences with leaders from various countries. Despite residing far from these places, I felt a deep connection to children in underserved communities. This connection drove us to adapt and implement innovative solutions, such as tutoring services, to address specific educational needs in places like the San Salvador community.
Our approach at Project Eunoia transcends mere acts of charity; it's about crafting sustainable solutions. We continually seek creative methods, such as providing access to learning materials, to ensure that children in underserved communities receive the highest quality education possible. As we press forward, our mission remains crystal clear: to dismantle barriers to education and generate a lasting impact. While donating educational materials remains crucial, we firmly believe that collective efforts, coupled with targeted services, empower children not only to receive an education but to genuinely relish learning for a brighter future.
Our commitment to Project Eunoia is unwavering and extends beyond geographic boundaries. I am resolute in my determination to educate youth, irrespective of my location. This lifelong commitment reflects our belief that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all, regardless of where they live. In essence, Project Eunoia is a testament to the power of grassroots initiatives, fueled by passion and dedication, to make a positive and lasting impact on education in local communities and beyond.
In a world where educational inequalities persist, Project Eunoia serves as a reminder that each of us can make a difference. By championing sustainable solutions, fostering genuine connections, and embracing the collective power of communities, we pave the way for a brighter and more equitable future. As we continue our journey, we remain steadfast in our belief that education has the transformative power to break the cycle of poverty, empower individuals, and build a more inclusive and prosperous world for generations to come.
Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has profoundly impacted my life is "Cast Away." Directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, this film transcends its survival narrative, offering poignant insights into resilience, isolation, and the profound impact of human connections. The movie struck a chord with me on a personal level, influencing not only how I perceive challenges but also inspiring the founding of my organization Project Eunoia. This project focuses on making education accessible to children in underserved communities.
"Cast Away" follows the story of Chuck Noland, a FedEx executive, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes stranded on a deserted island following a plane crash. The film meticulously explores Chuck's journey of survival, capturing the physical and emotional toll of isolation. Tom Hanks delivers a stellar performance, conveying the depths of Chuck's despair, resilience, and eventual transformation.
The movie resonated with me because, like Chuck, life often presents unexpected challenges that demand resilience and adaptability. Chuck's struggle on the island mirrored the challenges we encounter in our own lives—unexpected, daunting, and seemingly insurmountable. His journey became a metaphor for the human spirit's capacity to endure, adapt, and find hope even in the most adverse circumstances.
What truly left a lasting impact was Chuck's relationship with Wilson, a volleyball that became his companion on the island. This portrayal of the human need for connection, even with an inanimate object, highlighted the importance of relationships in our lives. It underscored the profound impact of human connections on our emotional well-being and resilience.
This theme resonated deeply with me and became a driving force behind my involvement in Project Eunoia. Witnessing Chuck's isolation and the importance of human connection, I recognized the universal significance of fostering supportive communities, especially for children facing educational disparities. Project Eunoia, inspired by this very notion, extended its efforts by starting book drives, tutoring services, and providing learning supplies.
Much like Chuck's determination to survive, Project Eunoia became my avenue to contribute positively to the lives of others. The movie ignited a passion for addressing challenges head-on, and through Project Eunoia, I sought to provide not only educational resources but also a sense of connection and support to children facing educational disparities.
"Cast Away" taught me that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges, the human spirit can endure with resilience and the support of meaningful connections. It became a driving force behind my commitment to ensuring that every child, no matter their circumstances, has access to quality education and a supportive community. The movie's impact is not just a cinematic experience but a guiding philosophy that continues to shape my perspective and influence my actions through Project Eunoia—a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and the enduring lessons it can impart.
Good People, Cool Things Scholarship
My creative passion centers on photography – the ability to capture moments in time, making memories last forever through my creative lens. Whether it's through a large high-quality camera or just a small disposable film camera, I enjoy capturing moments.
Photography, to me, is like bottling up happiness. It makes the world a better place by turning everyday moments into treasures. Imagine having a single picture that holds a whole bunch of memories – the laughter, the joy, the little things that make life special. These images become like time machines. I’m able to provide happiness to friends, family, communities, and strangers just through a picture.
If I could snag an extra 24 hours in a day, I'd spend it exploring new places. Traveling sparked my love for photography. There's something about capturing the grandeur of landscapes, the vibrancy of different cultures, and the little surprises that pop up along the way. Those extra hours would be a passport to more adventures, allowing me to freeze even more incredible moments in my camera's memory card.
Now, let's talk about where my creativity kicks into high gear – sports events! Picture this: the cheering crowd, the excitement in the air, and the thrill of a game unfolding. That's where I feel like a creative superhero with a camera. The energy is contagious, and it fuels my ability to capture the best moments. When my favorite team is winning, I'm not just witnessing it; I'm part of the joy. And that's what I aim to capture – not just the action on the field, but the shared happiness that echoes through the stands. It's like freezing a high-five, a victory dance, or the pure delight of a winning touchdown, kill, or goal. I enjoy photographing football especially since it is one of Texas' biggest sports. I used to play volleyball, so photographing a sport that I understand so well is rewarding.
So, in my world, photography isn't just about clicking buttons on a camera. It's about bottling up joy, sharing adventures through images, and freezing the thrill of victory in sports. And if I could stretch the day by 24 hours, you'd find me chasing sunsets in new places, turning the pages of my travel diary, and capturing the high-fives and victory dances that make sports events unforgettable. Because in the end, making the world a little brighter and more joyful is what my creative passion is all about.
Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
Starbucks isn't just a coffee shop for me; it's the place where my friends and I have a routine meeting at 6 am. Picture this: early mornings, the smell of freshly ground coffee, and the comforting background noise of the coffee grinder. We've got a system - whoever gets there first grabs the big table, and the rest of us settle into our usual spots. The large windows let in the sunrise, creating a warm and cozy workspace.
Now, in the midst of all this, there's one drink that has become my go-to during fall - the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. As the leaves change outside, this drink brings a perfect balance of flavors. It's not too bitter or too sweet; it's just right. It's not just a drink; it's my motivation to get through an hour of work and then another.
As I kept ordering this drink, I got to know the Starbucks staff pretty well. Chris, the manager, noticed my routine. Every time I came in, he'd bring me a glass of water because he knew I'd order after an hour. It's these little things that make Starbucks more than just a coffee place; it's a community.
There was one week during the fall when I had a cough and runny nose. Chris surprised me with a Honey Citrus Mint Tea. It helped with my symptoms, but it also showed the caring side of the people at Starbucks. This tea became a remedy not just for my health but also for the stress of looming deadlines.
So, in a nutshell, my fall story revolves around Starbucks, the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, and the Honey Citrus Mint Tea. These drinks aren't just beverages; they're like characters in my academic journey. They represent motivation, friendship, and unexpected kindness - all part of the memories I've made during the fall. Every time I sip my Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, it's more than just coffee; it's a reminder of the season and the moments I've shared in that cozy coffee shop.
And amid all the work and deadlines, Starbucks is like a reliable friend—a spot where I find comfort and routine. It brings people together. It's a place where I've built friendships, brainstormed ideas, and felt the potential for new opportunities. Starbucks is more than a coffee shop; it's a cozy space where I've grown, made friends, and found support during my academic journey in the fall.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
From my early years, my love of learning and education was nurtured under the guidance of my grandmother, a dedicated teacher for nearly three decades. The privilege of having access to educational resources allowed me to develop an awareness of the stark disparities in educational opportunities across the globe, particularly evident during my travels with my grandmother.
Observing children in diverse settings, some struggling to read or write, sparked a deep sense of responsibility within me. I came to understand that their challenges weren't due to a lack of desire but rather to a lack of opportunity. This realization ignited a commitment to making quality education universally accessible, leading to the birth of Project Eunoia, a product of not just an idea, but a passion. As co-founder of this organization, I help cultivate learning and creativity by making education accessible to children.
Project Eunoia emerged as a catalyst for change in my local community. While organizing book drives within and beyond my school marked the initial step, the true impact unfolded when my team personally delivered books to children and local organizations, ensuring that educational resources reached those in greatest need.
The horizons of Project Eunoia expanded further through collaborations with friends, fostering conferences with like-minded leaders from countries such as Australia and El Salvador. Though I do not reside in those countries, the children of these communities were still highly important as to me, home is not a place, but a feeling. Hearing the stories of children living in impoverished communities made me feel saddened. I wanted to become part of the solution and provide imperative additional support. In response, we adapted, introducing innovative solutions that surpassed traditional book donations by incorporating tutoring services. This targeted strategy aimed to elevate reading levels for over 100 children in the San Salvador community.
My commitment goes beyond conventional charitable efforts; I am resolute about developing sustainable economic solutions. Actively pursuing and implementing creative strategies, such as facilitating access to learning materials, underscores my commitment to ensuring the youth in these communities receive the highest quality education.
As Project Eunoia moves forward, the mission remains clear: to break down barriers to education and foster a lasting impact. While the donation of educational materials is crucial, it is our collective efforts, coupled with targeted services, that will empower children to not only receive an education but to truly engage in the beauty of learning for a brighter future. No matter what my future holds, I know that I will strive to educate the youth no matter where I reside because my passion for serving others is lifelong.
Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
Book Lovers Scholarship
In a world where honesty is rare, choosing a single book for everyone to read became a straightforward task as I knew it only needed to encapsulate one thing, truth. "Greenlights" by Matthew McConaughey effortlessly fulfills this role, offering a captivating narrative that celebrates imperfections and illuminates the path to authenticity.
While McConaughey's physical appeal and acting success are undeniable, it is the depth and honesty of his life story that is truly revolutionary. His memoir extends beyond superficial appeal, diving into human existence with remarkable candor.
Among the many insights shared in "Greenlights," one universal lesson stands out: success does not necessarily lead to a fulfilling life purpose. McConaughey courageously breaks free from the comforts of his career in romantic comedies. He realizes that true self-discovery lies beyond the confines of familiarity, and decides to embark on a transformative journey. Through moments of solitude and introspection, he discovers a profound truth: loving and accepting oneself is a prerequisite for unconditionally loving another person. His pursuit of genuine connection and unwavering truth ultimately leads him to lasting and meaningful love.
"Greenlights" is neither a conventional romance novel nor a self-help guide. It is a rare gem -- an honest account that combines inspiration with realism. McConaughey's commitment to truth and vulnerability shines through, inviting readers to reflect on their own lives and embrace the beauty of their imperfections. This is an invitation I find deeply unique.
The pages of "Greenlights" captivate the reader with the allure of authenticity, where shortcomings are transformed into opportunities for growth. McConaughey's ability to navigate his own story sparks self-discovery in every reader, encouraging them to embark on their journey of authenticity and fulfillment.
In a world yearning for genuine connections and honest revelations, "Greenlights" stands tall as a testament to the power of embracing imperfections and finding one's true path. The book leaves a lasting impression that transcends literature with its magnetism and unwavering honesty. I would encourage readers to prepare themselves to be captivated, inspired, and forever changed by McConaughey's story, "Greenlights".

Never did I anticipate that changing schools in my sophomore year would lead to a profound reconnection with a missing aspect of my life – my faith. Departing from a school I had called home for five years, a place where I had grown and thrived, marked a significant departure from my comfort zone into uncharted territory.
This transition wasn't just about seeking a new academic challenge. It was a deliberate choice to break away from the routine that had become stifling. I realized that true growth required stepping into the unknown, and embracing the possibility of failure so that I could begin greater personal development.
Enrolling in a new school exposed me to a variety of new courses, from Engineering to Personal Finance to Theology, pushing not only my academic boundaries but also challenging me spiritually. The shift from a charter school to a religious private institution prompted a deep reflection on my Catholic faith. Unlike my previous school, where my beliefs were not questioned, I now faced external scrutiny that turned inward, reshaping my understanding of faith and life.
Navigating this spiritual introspection triggered a series of changes. This included the reassessment of my relationships. While I didn't prioritize friendships based on faith disagreements, our differing goals prompted a natural drift. Embracing new religious perspectives guided me towards surrounding myself with loving individuals and becoming a source of love for them.
Despite these shifts, the immediate impact of being the new kid was a sense of isolation. Joining in the middle of high school meant navigating established social dynamics and overcoming the fear of rejection. Never had I been in an environment where children had gone to school together for over a decade. This period, though challenging, cultivated resilience and adaptability as I gradually found my place among my peers.
The journey of being the new kid also prompted a broader understanding of the person I aspired to become. While I always had a passion for helping others, this transition deepened my commitment. Launching Project Eunoia allowed me to make education accessible. For instance, I donated over 500 books to communities in San Antonio and El Salvador while addressing economic challenges because of my strengthened passion.
This transformative experience significantly influenced my future goals, inspiring a commitment to community development and social work. Driven by a desire to create inclusive spaces where everyone, regardless of their background, feels a sense of belonging, my journey as the new kid has evolved into a driving force behind my dedication to fostering diverse and supportive communities.
In conclusion, being the new kid has been a journey that touched every aspect of my life. From the challenges of forming new friendships and adapting academically to the profound impact on my spiritual beliefs and future goals, this experience has played a pivotal role in shaping my character and aspirations. I am now propelled forward in my commitment to creating inclusive communities in the future all while fostering education within my community.

In moments of adversity, I've consistently demonstrated resilience, aiming not only to overcome challenges but also to inspire those around me. One notable instance was during the implementation of Project Eunoia, an initiative I co-founded to enhance education accessibility in underserved communities and an initiative rooted in my upbringing.
Growing up in a household where my grandmother dedicated over three decades to teaching, education became a cornerstone of my upbringing. The profound impact of having a knowledgeable guide at my disposal, teaching me the intricacies of reading and writing, laid the groundwork for my academic journey. However, the influence of education in my life transcended personal development and extended to a broader perspective through the experiences garnered from my involvement in Project Eunoia.
Accompanying my grandmother on her global teaching expeditions was an eye-opening experience that exposed me to the various educational landscapes around the world. This unique exposure to diverse cultures and educational systems allowed me to witness firsthand the disparities and barriers children face in accessing quality education. These experiences catalyzed the inception of Project Eunoia.
When faced with setbacks, such as failing to meet fundraising or book drive goals, I didn't view these moments as defeats but as opportunities for growth. Rather than allowing discouragement to take hold, I engaged in a process of reflection and adaptation. I revised our strategies, sought feedback from team members and mentors, and explored alternative avenues to achieve our objectives.
In one particular fundraising phase, despite encountering unexpected financial obstacles, I remained resolute. Instead of abandoning the project, I organized a series of community events, leveraging local resources and engaging with potential sponsors. This required resilience in the face of uncertainty and the ability to inspire confidence in the project's mission.
Moreover, I faced the challenge of initiating difficult conversations with community leaders, donors, and team members. These conversations were essential for refining our approach and garnering support. In navigating these discussions, I demonstrated resilience by remaining open to feedback, adapting to different perspectives, and fostering collaborative solutions.
Through these experiences, I aimed not only to persevere personally but to inspire others within the Project Eunoia team. By transparently sharing the challenges we encountered and showcasing a steadfast commitment to finding solutions, I encouraged team members to approach obstacles with resilience and a positive mindset.
In essence, Project Eunoia has been a crucible for personal and collective growth. The challenges faced were not roadblocks but rather opportunities for resilience, innovation, and learning. By navigating these obstacles, I have not only strengthened my character but have also motivated others to approach challenges with determination and unwavering resolve. As I continue to be involved in Project Eunoia and similar endeavors, I am committed to furthering the cause of equitable education, armed with the lessons of resilience gained through these transformative experiences.

Hello, I am Aja Johnson, a proud African-American and Korean woman born and raised in Texas. My journey towards a business major is intricately woven with my passion for education and my commitment to forging a brighter future for students in need.
Growing up in a household with my grandmother, a teacher for over three decades, education has played a pivotal role in shaping my perspective. The privilege of having someone readily available to teach me how to read and write laid a solid foundation for my academic journey.
Accompanying my grandmother on her global teaching expeditions allowed me to witness firsthand the disparities and barriers that hinder children from receiving quality education. It was this realization that fueled Project Eunoia, my organization dedicated to making education accessible, particularly in underserved communities.
However, navigating the path of Project Eunoia was not without its challenges. Setbacks in achieving fundraising or book drive goals prompted me to reassess my approach. The process of trial and error became a testament to my commitment. Overcoming obstacles required rewriting outlines, pushing through discomfort to engage with more members of my community, and dedicating additional time to our tutoring services.
I know that working towards a business degree will equip me with invaluable tools for personal development and will also empower me to enhance the impact of Project Eunoia.
One of the key aspects of business education is the development of strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. The setbacks faced in Project Eunoia demanded a reassessment of my approach. A business major equips individuals with the ability to analyze situations critically, identify key issues, and formulate effective solutions. This analytical mindset is crucial not only for navigating challenges in the realm of business but also for addressing the complex issues that may arise in the execution of social and community projects that I will pursue through my organization.
Moreover, a business education fosters effective communication and networking skills, which are essential for the success of any project. Overcoming the hurdles in Project Eunoia necessitated engaging with various members of the community. Pursuing a business major will hone my ability to communicate persuasively, negotiate effectively, and build lasting relationships—a skill set that will undoubtedly amplify the reach and influence of Project Eunoia so that I can provide education to children on a broader scale.
The iterative process of trial and error that characterized my efforts in Project Eunoia serves as a testament to my commitment and adaptability. A business major not only encourages but also cultivates a mindset that embraces experimentation and learning from failures. By understanding the intricacies of business processes, I will be better equipped to navigate the unpredictable nature of projects.
With that said, a business major will provide me with a holistic understanding of organizational dynamics, financial management, and leadership principles. This knowledge will be instrumental in establishing and sustaining the long-term viability of my project. My efforts will be greater and truly backed by the strong foundations of business.
Daelyn Bledsoe Legacy of Love and Leadership Scholarship
Hello, my name is Aja Johnson. I am an African-American and Korean woman born and raised in Texas. My deep-rooted interests lie in business and education, as well as fostering a brighter future for students in need. This is why I have started Project Eunoia, an organization that strives to make education accessible to children in the San Antonio and El Salvador communities while problem-solving economic issues.
Because of my preexisting passion for positive change, I have come up with seven innovative ideas for positive change that align with my passions.
1. National Education Reform Initiative:
a. Overview: Launch a comprehensive national initiative aimed at reforming the education system to address disparities and ensure equitable access to quality education.
b. Issue: Across the United States, opportunities for education and resources in many communities are not optimal. Students lack learning materials which prevents them from furthering their education.
c. My Experience and Knowledge: I’m highly involved in reforms for communities in El Salvador. Economic disparities have created challenges in these underserved communities. To solve this issue, I personally have spoken with leaders in these countries while also offering supplies/aid like book drives and tutoring services.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Integrate similar book drives, tutoring programs, and conferences with students, teachers, and other various leaders into the national initiative. Remember that the voices of students matter!
2. Digital/Online Learning Platforms:
a. Overview: Develop and implement digital learning platforms tailored to the needs of underserved communities, providing accessible educational resources.
b. Issue: Accessibility is a huge educational problem. Teachers and educators are not available or accessible to children across the nation, especially one-to-one or after hours.
c. My Experience and Knowledge: The biggest challenge with my tutoring services is offering enough of them. With limited tutors and limited time, sometimes we are not able to offer enough aid to students in need.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Extend the reach of many educational and athletic organizations by creating an online portal that offers educational content, tutoring services, sports instructional videos and tutorials, and resources, ensuring continuous learning for children in remote locations or economically challenged areas.
e. Alternative: Mobile Learning Centers: Introduce mobile learning centers equipped with state-of-the-art technology to remote and underserved communities. These centers could travel to different locations, providing on-the-go access to educational resources, interactive workshops, and digital literacy programs. Though they are not permanent, they allow students with no access to technology to receive education that they wouldn’t normally get.
3. Innovating STEM Free Organizations and Clubs:
a. Overview: Establish STEM innovation clubs across the nation to foster a passion for the fields from an early age.
b. Issue: Lack of knowledge of STEM's existence and access to STEM resources.
c. My Experience/Knowledge: I understood from an early age that many people are not educated due to a lack of opportunity, not drive.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Offering free organizations and clubs will open doors to simply opportunity and knowledge, which is education in itself. This can simply be done by continuing to organize conferences but gearing them specifically towards promoting STEM education. This will increase exposure to these fields.
e. Additional Reforms: Provide hands-on learning experiences, mentorship programs, and scholarships to support and empower aspiring STEM professionals.
4. Mental Health Education
a. Overview: Introduce comprehensive mental health education programs in schools to address the growing mental health education programs in schools to address the growing mental health challenges among students.
b. Issue: As social media is growing and challenges continue to be prominent including sports and health, aiding students’ mental health is crucial.
c. My Experience and Knowledge: My family has a history of mental illness. Many of my family members did not get the help they needed. Aiding others with mental health awareness became a passion for me.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Incorporate mental health resources while also implementing support for academics and emotional well-being.
5. Entrepreneurship Incubators for Youth
a. Overview: Create entrepreneurship incubators to empower young minds, teaching them essential skills for innovation and problem-solving.
b. Issue: A lack of problem-solving skills acts as a barrier to advancement. Teaching these skills will not only benefit the individual but also the community as a whole.
c. My Experience and Knowledge: By working with underserved communities, I have learned to problem solve since issues in certain countries don’t pertain to other countries’ issues. My problem-solving skills are what allow me to facilitate change.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Encourage students to initiate community-focused projects, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership.
6. Eco-Education Programs:
a. Overview: Develop educational programs focused on environmental conservation, sustainability, and climate change awareness.
b. Issue: A bad environment jeopardizes education for others, especially those lacking resources. Also, increasingly bad environmental habits call for climate change awareness. This concern should be formally addressed.
c. My Experience and Knowledge: When I created a survey asking what people do with unused books, I gathered information that over 12% of those I surveyed threw old books into the trash. Not only was this environmentally unfriendly, but also a waste of resources.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Promote eco-friendly practices like book drives. Infuse sustainability education into school curricula, focusing on environmental awareness, climate action, and sustainable living practices. Foster a generation of environmentally conscious citizens who are equipped to address the challenges of climate change and contribute to sustainable development.
7. Literacy Campaigns
a. Overview: Launch a nationwide literacy campaign to eradicate illiteracy, involving government agencies, NGOs, and private entities.
b. Issue: Many children across the nation lack literacy skills for a variety of reasons including language barriers.
c. My involvement in the Spanish-speaking country of El Salvador is deep. I know many people from El Salvador who move to the United States, but have low literacy skills which prevent them from getting many jobs.
d. Efforts to Pursue: Provide resources for communities with low literacy rates. Implement literacy-focused tutoring programs.
Bonus: Continuous Learning Opportunities for Adults: Establish programs that offer continuous learning opportunities for adults, providing them with access to skills development, vocational training, and career advancement. This initiative could contribute to reducing unemployment rates and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
These innovative ideas, intertwined with the impactful initiatives of Project Eunoia, have the potential to drive positive change for our nation, particularly benefiting future generations. By embracing these forward-thinking approaches, we can create a more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable educational landscape, laying the foundation for a brighter future for all including athletes across the nation.

Beatrice Diaz Memorial Scholarship
Together, we can create a future where education is not a privilege but a universally accessible opportunity, and every child has the chance to experience the joy of reading and the power of beautiful thinking—eunoia.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
"I have now come to the conclusion that suicide is an absolutely selfish act... I am personally fed up with soldiers who are choosing to take their own lives so that others can clean up their mess."
General Dana J.H. Pittard, a close family friend and godfather to my brother, shocked me with his harsh words. My mother, a 100% disabled combat veteran, lost both her parents and her brother to suicide through mental illness. Learning my mother's stance on this topic was vital to my comprehension of Pittard's words.
Regarding Pittard's remarks, my mother suggested that suicide was selfishly a permanent solution to a temporary problem. However, she asserted that suicide was not an act of selfishness in the face of mental illness. Having witnessed those tragedies throughout her life, I was sensitive to how my mother felt about suicide. Instead of debating or arguing, I became an active listener knowing that sometimes I can learn more by listening.
According to her, many soldiers experience harsh realities while serving in the military. Therefore, suicide shouldn't be viewed as selfishness, but sometimes as a way of attaining peace. By inviting my mother to elaborate, she explained that not everyone who commits suicide is running away from something. Perhaps they're running towards something like internal peace and have no intention of leaving a mess. As grief resonated through her words, our conversation became a space for her to heal.
Inspired after hearing my mother's differing views on suicide, I began my involvement by giving speeches to my community. I hoped to help others heal like my mother or become inspired like me. I also took action by creating care packages for those needing mental health care. In addition to raising awareness, through words and service, my efforts became a passion.
As a young woman growing up in a society that sometimes sees the world in black and white, I always found it challenging to reconcile my African American and Korean heritage. I was a product of two different cultures, and I struggled to find my place in either. I struggled to understand what was off-limits for me as a human. Could I be a part of both cultures? Was this something I was allowed to do? Coming from a family that also faced the challenges of mental illness made things more confusing, as topics such were taboo as well.
However, I realized that perhaps mental health was not a taboo topic between me and my mother. It was not a forbidden topic. It was just that neither of us had brought attention to it. From then on, my mother and I discussed mental health. We were even able to discuss the challenges that we faced in our lives. Though this example only consists of an impact on one relationship, it opened my eyes to a worldly understanding. The door to destigmatization of mental health isn’t locked, it just hasn’t been opened. And even if it is locked, we all hold the key to opening it. It is time to open those doors, start those conversations, and make changes. I may never understand what some of my family members were dealing with, but what I do understand is that the world holds room for improvement, something that I can positively contribute to by opening doors for honesty and understanding.

To be a pawn in someone else's game is a nightmare that stifles individuality and limits personal growth. It is in the moments of self-reflection, as I stand before my mirror each morning, that I reaffirm my determination to design my own path. I refuse to let my potential go untapped.
Dreams hold immense power, but they must be transformed into tangible actions to have a lasting impact. Kid Cudi, a passionate artist, once questioned the essence of imagination: "If you can't do what you imagine, then what is imagination to you?" I wholeheartedly agree. Why imagine being a strong, independent woman, confident in her abilities, and fierce in her actions, when you won’t take steps to be that person? Imagination is not a mere daydream; it is a catalyst for turning ideas into reality. However, sometimes a person can’t do what they imagine because they can’t support themselves financially. This is why I believe independence in financial aspects is beneficial.
Every character in a game possesses unique abilities and talents, and my own special talent lies in mathematics. Pursuing a career in STEM would enable me to fuel my passion for mathematics and drive it forward. I would be able to unleash the wild potential of my imagination while harnessing the power of STEM to turn my ideas into concrete outcomes.
The dreams I have are grand in scale, some requiring significant financial backing. I refuse to discard these ideas due to financial constraints. Therefore, supporting myself financially becomes imperative. By achieving independence by channeling my passion into a fulfilling STEM career, I can fully embrace my talents and explore the depths of mathematics.
Financial self-reliance not only empowers me to pursue my dreams but also equips me with the necessary resources to make them a reality. It provides the means to invest in research projects, establish innovative enterprises, or implement large-scale initiatives. By supporting myself financially, I can bridge the gap between imagination and tangible achievements, seizing the opportunity to leave a positive and lasting imprint on the world.
Financial independence bridges imagination and reality. It becomes beneficial as it allows individuals to follow their passions, overcome monetary barriers, and transform ideas into tangible outcomes. Pursuing a career in STEM, driven by my passion for mathematics, not only ensures financial stability but also unlocks a world of endless possibilities. With the support of financial independence, I can embrace my potential, actively pursue my passions, and fashion a life where I am the architect of my own success. It is through this financial self-sufficiency that I can press play on my endeavors and truly do what I imagine.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Mathematics. The mere mention of it used to evoke internal anger and an endless stream of questions about its purpose and relevance. Blame it on my grandmother, who burdened me with the weight of math and left me pondering these questions. Each June, as the school year came to a close, I expected a chance to relax and unwind. Little did I know that summer break would transform into an arduous three-month math boot camp, crafted meticulously by my grandmother.
With a stern look, she placed a towering stack of math workbooks before me, proclaiming, "You must get ahead of your classmates." Thus began my routine of daily math that consumed my entire summer. I toiled through the workbook pages, not out of desire, but out of obligation. I despised it. My tears were proof.
"These workbooks are a waste of trees!" I once protested. "Not if you put them to good use." she insisted. I believed these boot camps would never end, that my life would forever revolve around them. However, their end arrived unexpectedly—far sooner than I had ever imagined when my grandmother passed away due to cancer. For years, I yearned for their termination, but at that moment, I would gladly immerse myself in math if it meant having my grandmother by my side once more. The tears I shed on those math workbooks paled in comparison to the tears I shed upon losing her.
Every math problem I solved thereafter became a tribute to her. It was a testament to the woman who equipped me with the skills to solve equations with celerity. She loved me so intensely that she dedicated years of her life to teaching me, propelling me beyond my limits and far beyond my peers.
Others saw my aptitude in math and assumed that I loved it simply because I excelled at it. They couldn't have been more mistaken. My love for math derived from a place of preserving my grandmother's legacy. My proficiency in math wasn't solely mine; it belonged to her.
In each mathematical problem I conquer, I carry on the torch of her memory. It is an enduring tale, one that illustrates the remarkable effort of my grandmother. My love for math is not just because of numbers and formulas—it represents a bond between generations, an everlasting connection to the woman who pushed me to be my best self.

It was Matthew McConaughey's novel, Greenlights, that shifted my gears and altered the trajectory of my life. McConaughey explained that the word "greenlight" refers to signs that indicate movement in a positive direction. A greenlight could be the realization that jogging positively affects someone's health. However, the distinctly visible greenlights as such weren't what was so captivating to me.
In October 2016, the light turned red when my grandmother passed away from cancer. It was simply an emotionally unjustifiable moment and obviously a red light. There was nothing to justify cancer. It forced me to watch my grandmother grow sicker each day. I had to watch every ounce of her independence be stripped from her. I could not fathom how hard it must have been for her. The strong woman who made me strong no longer could speak. She could no longer walk. I remember when the priest prayed over her. At the time, I thought to myself, “If God wanted to help, he would have already”. At that moment, if I were in a car, I knew it would have been a totaled one, destroyed from the inside out.
It wasn't until years later that I realized that the light had never turned red nor was the car totaled. Though it was one of the most disorienting moments of my life, I discovered that the light only became greener as this experience taught me to accept things I couldn't change.
The possibility that a greenlight could appear as a red light struck me as a source of captivity. The greenest light was so difficult to see because I was blinded by grief. However, when I finally saw the light's true color, I actually pressed on the brakes. I began thinking about my speed, the lane I was in, and the stoplight I was at in life. Now, greenlights don't give me a reason to overthink, but a reason to reflect. I began to turn to my passengers for insight and opinions. These passengers are my family, friends, mentors, and even teachers. Since they are all seated in different seats in my vehicle, they each have their own unique perspective on this idea.
This concept of greenlights shifted my focus away from where I wanted to go in life to exactly what was stopping or even allowing me to get there. The signs and lights I was beginning to see began to provide me with purpose, reviving my motivation and encouraging me to continue driving forward.
I also realized that God was there with me the whole time. He gave me my grandmother for ten years of my life, a decade filled with laughter and joy. It is difficult to not blame him. It is difficult to stay positive, and sometimes, it is difficult to realize that all I have left of her are memories in my head, yet I know God has his plan. His plan consisted of giving my grandmother her own striking greenlight when she was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 2003. She fought it, survived it, and drove forward appreciating everything life gave her. Her second diagnosis was my greenlight and the end of her journey, comprising forty years of teaching. When she passed, I looked into teaching. I later began an organization to provide accessible education worldwide.
Greenlights are here to help put things into perspective. It altered my view of religion and purpose. I miss my grandmother deeply, but I know that I will reunite with her whenever the GPS tells me that I have arrived at my destination.
