I have been a member of Sigma Gamma Rhoers Club for four years. I will be participating in the 56th cotillion in December at the Chase Park Plaza. We learn leadership skills and how to work as a team. Community service is a big part of our group. We love giving back to the community. In the past we have visited the hospital or nursing homes. My strongest subjects in school were History and Culinary. History taught me how history repeats itself, and Culinary taught me more than how to cook food, but also how to prepare food safely. Cooking is my passion, learning about new recipes and the different parts of it, too. The measurements, ingredients, and how it makes something so delicious that it makes people happy. As a leader I took the lead in school projects with my group. In the summer of 2024 I worked at Artworks StL where we learned how to work together as a team. In the art program, we learned all different types of art and worked in groups. The different types of art like abstract, sculpture, conceptual, visual, and digital art. We even did spray painting, which was my personal favourite art form to do. Artworks StL hired us as young artists so I am actually a working young artist. I’ve shown great skills in leadership by putting everyone in their best roles and checking to see if everyone is doing their part. I also worked at a snack shop called Sweet Nettie B’s. In 10 years I want a bakery that can be a safe place for everyone. A place where people can enjoy a sweet treat while enjoying a calm place to be. I’ll work at an internship or apprenticeship after going to college; then become a personal chef for at least 4 years. The money I make from being a chef will provide me an opportunity then save up to own my own bakery. Recently, I have faced both mental and physical health challenges, but these experiences have helped me become stronger and more resilient. My mental health struggles have included periods of depression, anxiety, and self loathing, which made everyday activities feel worthless and difficult to find motivation in even getting out of bed. There were moments when it was overwhelming to around large crowds or feel confident in myself. Although I am still searching for answers about my physical health, I remain hopeful that my doctors will discover what is causing my symptoms. Even during difficult times, I have continued to focus on my goals because I want to attend college and build a meaningful future for myself. Over time, I have made slow but great progress in overcoming depression and my fear of large crowds. I have learned healthier ways to cope with stress, and have the strength to talk to people about my struggles. I have had many times where I would feel like I was worthless and didn't want to live. I'm glad I've had a great family and support system to lean on when it gets too much.
