    Maggie's Way- International Woman’s Scholarship
From the harsh streets of St. Croix to the life-changing halls of higher education, my journey is a perfect embodiment of relentless perseverance. Hello, I am Aiya Muhsin. Growing up on St. Croix, a small island in the Caribbean, presented me with some overwhelming challenges, much like those faced by Maggie Kwiecien. Like Maggie, I relocated to the U.S. without any support system, fueled by determination to make a difference. Growing up on St. Croix, I had firsthand exposure to the devastations caused by a lack of mental health resources. This experience instilled in me a passion for service and mental health advocacy, much like Maggie's determination to excel in engineering despite the odds. I am committed to accessible, inclusive mental health services for marginalized communities. I want to make sure I am creating a space without judgment, where mental health struggles are normalized, reflecting how Maggie was brave in the face of physical challenges and her commitment to education and knowledge. My personal experiences with mental health have helped shape my beliefs and activism. I have learned the importance of resilience and empathy, values that Maggie showed through her own intellectual boldness and determination. In doing this, I intend to instigate continued awareness about mental health, promoting policies that make the services accessible to the under-resourced community. Personally, and professionally, through breaking down walls of stigma with services provided via therapy and advocacy, similar to the professional and personal life lived by Maggie, who never let anything get in the way of pushing the envelope, I would believe persistence results in a kinder, more just community. Growing up in St. Croix really drove home how strong a community can be and how seriously mental health services are needed. I am committed to continuing in the change of this narrative, inspired by Maggie's commitment to becoming expert level in her field. My passion for mental health advocacy drives me to make certain that everyone has quality mental health care. Like Maggie, I do believe that all deserve to have a complete life, free from untreated mental health disorders. And in this process, step after step, I'm working towards materializing the vision into actuality. This has thus strengthened my resolve for an earnest difference to be wrought into people's lives. As a mental health advocate and future expert in the field, I try to model Maggie's perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to making a difference. Let us work together for a future wherein mental health services would be accessible to all-a legacy left behind by Maggie.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish is an artist whose pop transcends the conventional boundaries in deeply personal and hauntingly beautiful ways. There is something in her songs that can really get in touch with the listeners, and for me, three of her tracks have found a special place in my heart: "Ocean Eyes," "When the Party's Over," and "bury a friend." Besides the outstanding talent that such songs present, they mirror some profound and personal experiences through which my perception of vulnerability, loss, and inner strength took shape. "Ocean Eyes" is a starting point for an artist like Billie Eilish, and it's pure, unbridled emotion put into the music. Dreamy vocals with spacey production give a vibe of longing and at the same time a certain type of nostalgia. I woke up to "Ocean Eyes" on one sleepless night when the world was too overwhelming. The haunting melody of the song perfectly contrasted the quiet night, full of its calm beauty but somehow melancholic. Listening to Billie sing about feeling captive and overwhelmed by the eyes of another reminded me of times when I found myself drowned in my world of thoughts and emotions. "Ocean Eyes" brings back the moment in solitude where there's always some introspection entwining dreams and fears. It's a song that's like peering deep into one's soul, comfort, and disquiet mingled. "When the Party's Over" is that masterclass in minimalism and emotional impact. Here, Billie's voice shines at the top of the rare piano arrangement, carrying a deep level of sadness and resignation in her tone. I listened to this during a tougher time in my life-when one of my favorite friends in the world relocated across the country. It was one of those friendships that felt perfect, until it came down to distance. On the night that we parted, I sat in my room all by myself, with the echo of our last conversation still replaying in my head. "When the Party's Over" by Billie felt like she was putting words to the heartache I couldn't say. It became a friend in my loneliness, helping me work through the sadness of letting go and the inevitability of change. "Bury a friend" is a bold, provocative exploration of fear and identity. The beat is eerie and pulsating, with distorted vocals that make a sense of unease just right for the song's themes. Growing up, I struggled with anxiety and the fear of not being good enough. "Bury a friend" addresses these internal demons and the stress felt for being what others would wish one to be. That line, "What do you want from me? Why don't you run from me?" is all challenges to face your fears within and not run away from them. One night, I put my headphones on and ran this song on repeat; anxieties weighed upon my brain. The haunting beats cut through, along with the raw lyrics from Billie, making me confront fears head-on. Essentially, Billie Eilish's music represents a passage through the highs and lows of human emotion, while these three songs are emotionally touching pieces that can call out specifically personal responses. These remind me of the beauty in being vulnerable, letting go hurtlingly, and being braver in confronting our fears. This emotional honesty within her, in fact, is an attribute that can make her music resonate deep inside.

"From the challenging streets of St. Croix to the transformative halls of higher education, my journey embodies relentless perseverance." Hello, I am Aiya Muhsin. Growing up on St. Croix a tiny island in the Caribbean, I was able to see firsthand the devastations that a lack of mental health resources can have on communities. I have also faced and seen a lot of personal hardships firsthand. Such a situation instilled a passion for service and mental health advocacy in me, one that keeps on developing to this day. I try to contribute to these through accessible and inclusive mental health services for marginalized communities. I try to provide an unrestrained environment with no judgment of any kind, where mental health challenges are talked about as the norm. I believe that quality mental health services are equally needed by everyone, regardless of geographical background or inability to access because of finance. These are all personal experiences regarding mental health that have truly formed my beliefs and activism. I have learned the importance of resilience and empathy, values that form part of my contribution to work. I will do more in creating awareness on mental health and advocating for policies that would ensure mental health services are available in as many underrepresented areas as possible. This really shaped my career aspirations; it really put me on a path where I know I am going to make a profound difference in people's lives. In my practice, I plan to also break down the barriers for those communities through therapy services, resources, and advocating on behalf of these marginal groups. Because I believe my life testimony to persistence will ensure an outcome which makes our community much more compassionate and just by striving to take responsibility through simple efforts. Growing up in St. Croix was an experience that showed me the power of community, along with the acute needs regarding mental health. I have seen what happens when those needs are not met, and the results are devastating. It is time to change this narrative. In my line of work, I attempt to provide a lifeline to those in need of hope and support where it is most needed. My passion for mental health advocacy is because I believe everyone deserves a chance to have a full life, free of the debilitating burden of untreated mental health. I am committed to turning this vision into reality step by step. The journey has been quite arduous; however, it has grown in me the strength and willpower to make a dent. Let us work together for a future where mental health services are available to the marginalized community.
Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Hello! My name is Aiya Muhsin. Balancing academic responsibilities with personal life, especially as a mother of two, can significantly impact mental health. As a psychology student at San Francisco State University, I've faced numerous hardships in pursuit of a good education, which has taught me the importance of prioritizing my mental health. The stress of coursework, the demands of being a parent, and the desire to excel in order to give back to others require a robust strategy for maintaining mental health. Mental health challenges can impair focus and concentration, making it difficult to absorb information and stay on top of coursework. When my mental health is compromised, my motivation can wane, leading to procrastination and reduced productivity. Stress and anxiety can affect memory and cognitive functions, which are essential for learning and performing well academically. Mental health affects how I interact with and support my children. It’s crucial to be emotionally available and patient, which becomes challenging when under stress. Maintaining healthy relationships with friends, family, and peers requires emotional stability, which can be impacted by mental health issues. Personal well-being often takes a back seat when mental health is not prioritized, leading to neglect of self-care practices that are essential for overall health. Effective time management techniques help in balancing schoolwork, parenting, and personal time, reducing stress and burnout. Building a strong support system of friends, family, and peers who can offer help, advice, and emotional support is crucial. Incorporating regular self-care practices such as exercise, meditation, adequate sleep, and hobbies that bring joy can enhance mental well-being. Seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor when needed ensures that my mental health is continuously monitored and supported. Techniques such as mindfulness meditation and relaxation exercises can help manage stress and improve overall mental health. Breaking down larger goals into manageable tasks and celebrating small achievements can keep motivation high and reduce feelings of overwhelm. In essence, prioritizing mental health not only boosts academic performance but also enriches personal life, enabling me to be the best student and mother I can be. Through resilience and proactive mental health strategies, I continue to pave the way for a brighter future, dedicated to helping others and giving back to the community. I understand the pressures of juggling multiple roles and responsibilities. There are days when everything feels overwhelming, but I remind myself that it's okay to seek help and take breaks. Sharing experiences with fellow students and parents who are on a similar journey makes a world of difference. We are not alone in this, and by supporting each other, we can thrive both academically and personally.
Scholarship for US/Algerian and US/Palestinian Community Members
Asalamu Alaikum. My name is Aiya Muhsin, a first-generation psychology student at San Francisco State University. My Palestinian heritage has profoundly shaped my identity, instilling a deep sense of purpose and commitment to serving my community. Growing up with Palestinian roots, I have been deeply influenced by the resilience, strength, and compassion of my people. The stories of my ancestors, who faced tremendous hardship yet remained steadfast, have instilled in me a sense of pride and responsibility. These stories have taught me the importance of standing up for justice, supporting those in need, and maintaining hope even in the face of adversity. My educational journey has been marked by both challenges and triumphs. Since childhood, I've faced obstacles in accessing quality education, yet my determination has remained unwavering. My passion for psychology and my desire to support the Muslim community, particularly the victims of the ongoing conflict in Palestine, have driven me to pursue higher education. This year, I enrolled in a crucial program that marks a significant milestone in my career. My goal is to become the best therapist I can be and to learn as much as possible. However, the financial burden of this program is a concern, and I am committed to finding ways to overcome it. Alhamdulillah, I am blessed to have role models who have dedicated their lives to humanitarian causes. My friends, who are doctors, therapists, and members of the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), have inspired me with their tireless efforts, raising funds and supplies to make a tangible difference. Masha'Allah, they exemplify the path I aspire to follow. My future goals are centered around serving those in need and paying it forward to future generations of students like me. Insha'Allah, I plan to provide mental health support to those affected by the conflict in Palestine, particularly children, to help them heal and build a brighter future. My personal experiences as a Palestinian American have deeply influenced my beliefs and career aspirations. Witnessing the struggles and resilience of my people has fueled my desire to work toward justice, peace, prosperity, and dignity for all. I hope to create scholarship programs for first-generation college students and those dedicated to humanitarian work, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their educational aspirations. Additionally, I plan to actively mentor young students and engage with my community, offering guidance, support, and resources to help them achieve their goals. I will advocate for policies and initiatives that promote educational equity and access to quality education for all students, regardless of their background or financial situation. Furthermore, through various initiatives and collaborations, I will work to raise awareness and funds for the causes I am passionate about, ensuring that the support reaches those who need it most. In terms of historical and current knowledge about Palestine, it is a land rich with history, culture, and contributions. I could write an entire book about the significance of our olive trees and the keys to our homes, symbols of our heritage, and our hope to return one day. Historic events such as the Nakba in 1948, when thousands of Palestinians were displaced from their homes, continue to influence the region's socio-political landscape. I am certain that my purpose is to serve those in need, and I am committed to overcoming any challenges that come my way. My Palestinian heritage has given me a strong sense of identity and a clear mission to help others, and I carry this with me in every step of my journey. Insha'Allah, with hard work and the support of my community and achieve my dreams.

    Emma Jane Hastie Scholarship
My name is Aiya Muhsin, and I'm a psychology student at San Francisco State University. When I was just 15 years old and in 10th grade, I took part in an experience that transformed my view on life. I organized a fundraiser and food bank for an orphanage dedicated to blind children in Ramallah, Palestine. At that time, I managed to raise 30,200 NIS, approximately $8,000 USD, which was a significant amount, given the average annual household income was around 20,000 NIS ($5,000 USD). In today's terms, this would be equivalent to about $50,000 USD. The entire school came together, with friends posting on Facebook and students from other schools contributing. This collective effort was overwhelming. Our visit to the orphanage was arranged as a school trip by our teacher, aimed to teach us a lesson in gratitude. Despite the high poverty levels in our community and our own humble beginnings, we had much to be thankful for. As we walked into the orphanage, the atmosphere struck me—cold, empty, and significantly outdated even for that time. Our teacher reminded us to walk with respect, to be seen and not heard, and to follow her every instruction. The sight of these young children, some not only blind but with additional disabilities, was heart-wrenching. During our tour, an 8-year-old boy named Kareem approached us. He was sweet, shy, yet excited to introduce himself. Kareem led us to his locker, where he used his hands to feel his name in Braille. His enthusiasm was evident as he opened his locker to show us his prized possessions: a Goody brand hairbrush, a can of Axe body spray, a single change of clothes, and a bar of Dove soap. That was all he owned. I remember thinking, "Why is this boy here? If his parents are dead, couldn't an uncle or aunt adopt him? Why didn't a distant relative or grandparents take him in?" Then it struck me—not only do these children have nothing, but they also have no one. I mean, obviously, orphans have no family, but I was just an innocent child at the time, so having that actually click really shook me up. The impact of that moment is something I'll never forget. It ignited a fire within me to help these children lead better lives. In just a few weeks, I managed to gather enough money and supplies to make a significant difference in their lives. This initiative not only raised awareness but also inspired many people to become regular donors, continuing to support the orphanage to this day.
    Golden State First Gen Scholarship
"From the challenging streets of St. Croix to the empowering halls of higher education, my journey is a testament to my unwavering determination." Hi there! My name is Aiya Muhsin. I was raised on the tiny Caribbean island of St. Croix. Despite it being a part of the United States of America, there are sadly very few work opportunities and an absurd level of poverty. I witnessed my parents' daily struggles because they were never given the opportunity to attend school. I personally have had a lifelong struggle trying to get a decent education. I was shuffled around from one terrible school to the next, each one somehow worse than the last. Some of those schools were outright abusive, and I was often singled out because my parents couldn't afford to make donations to the school like some of the other kids' families did. It was frustrating to watch kids with wealthy parents get all the opportunities while I was left in the dust. Growing up in a place with a sky-high crime rate meant we were heavily sheltered by my parents for our safety. We were constantly warned to be extremely careful, and not to make too many friends, so life felt incredibly limited. All I ever wanted was to be a kid. I just wanted to hang out with friends and have a normal childhood, but that dream never became a reality. As a result, I ended up friendless, which made transitioning into adulthood awkward and uncomfortable. Despite all these challenges, my desire for a quality education never went away but instead grew stronger. My parents could barely afford to keep me in school, so every step in my educational journey was a monumental struggle. I faced unimaginable obstacles, yet they only strengthened my desire to do better in life. In my heart, I knew that the poverty that was passed down for generations in my family would end with me because I had decided it. As a mother with two perfect little girls, I’ve decided that they will never go through what I’ve gone through, and I will always find a way to do better. I'm now committed to completing my undergraduate degree. I believe that when there is a will, there is a way, even if I cannot afford it. I am the person I am now as a result of the experiences I endured while growing up on St. Croix. They have given me strength, resilience, and the ability to fight. For me and my family, I want to end the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future. Ultimately, my path is one of steadfast determination. I know that I need to keep going no matter how difficult things get. I'm motivated to fulfill my goals and have a good impact on the world. Kudos to constantly aiming for success and never giving up!
