    Harry B. Anderson Scholarship
As I carefully connected the wires of my homemade circuit in the school lab, I felt a thrill in my chest, the kind that only comes when you're on the verge of discovery. Hours of researching and planning had led me to this moment, and I was convinced it was my first step toward mastering electrical engineering. But in a blink, the wires sparked, and a puff of smoke curled up from the batteries. Panicking, I quickly disconnected everything, my heart pounding at the thought of setting the lab ablaze! What could have been a disaster became an unforgettable lesson. I learned that engineering requires both creativity and precision, a balance I would encounter many times as I pursued my interest in STEM. This experience set me on a path of curiosity and commitment to understanding how things work, and more importantly, how they can work safely to benefit others. Since that day, my interest in STEM has only grown, leading me to participate in the National Engineering Design Competition (NEDC) through the Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program. My project involved creating glasses for the visually impaired, which used sensors, cameras, and responsive audio to help users navigate their surroundings. This project taught me that engineering can address real-world issues and offer life-changing solutions. Working with a dedicated mentor, Dr. Shanice White, I later went on to win first place in the IEEE Robotics Competition with a robot I built from scratch. Through these experiences, I realized that electrical engineering aligned perfectly with my desire to create devices that improve lives. This ambition to contribute to the world through engineering has a deeply personal side as well. After facing health challenges that required hospitalization, I gained a new perspective on the machines that aided my recovery. I began to see engineering as more than circuits and designs: it was a tool that saved lives. This moment solidified my goal of developing medical devices, particularly wearable health monitors and assistive technologies, that can improve accessibility to healthcare and patient outcomes. Beyond the technical aspects, I am passionate about empowering others, especially women of color, to pursue STEM careers. Growing up, I faced societal pressure to conform to narrow beauty standards, but with the support of a positive online community, I learned to embrace my identity. I hope to bring that same empowerment to college by fostering a culture of self-love and confidence, especially within STEM fields. Through organizations like the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), I aim to support and inspire others who may feel underrepresented in this field. Pursuing electrical engineering allows me to combine my love for hands-on problem-solving with a mission to create positive change. From that initial misstep with the smoking batteries to winning competitions and setting my sights on medical technology, STEM has become my pathway to improving lives. I look forward to deepening my expertise, contributing to healthcare innovation, and empowering my community along the way.
    Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
Minecraft is a game that truly offers endless possibilities, and while there are so many things to enjoy, my favorite activity is definitely building elaborate structures and communities. This aspect resonates with me on a deep level because it combines creativity, problem-solving, and that incredible feeling of accomplishment that comes from bringing an idea to life. When I build in Minecraft, it feels like I’m creating my own little world. I love starting with an empty space and transforming it into something unique and beautiful. Whether it’s a cozy cottage nestled in a lush forest or a grand castle perched on a mountaintop, each project reflects my imagination. The game encourages me to play around with different materials and architectural styles, allowing me to experiment and learn about design in a fun way. It’s like I’m an architect and an artist all at once! One of the best parts of building is the sense of progression. I often start with just a handful of resources and gradually gather materials, refine my skills, and expand my creations. It’s a satisfying journey that mirrors real-life projects, where you start with a vision and work hard to make it happen. Every block I place feels like a little victory, and seeing the finished product gives me such a profound sense of achievement. It teaches me patience and perseverance, which are lessons I carry with me beyond the game. What makes it even more enjoyable is the social aspect. I love collaborating with friends on larger projects. Working together to create a massive fortress or a sprawling village adds a fun team element. We brainstorm ideas, divide tasks, and celebrate each milestone together. Those moments of laughter and creativity really strengthen our friendships and make the whole process more meaningful. Minecraft also provides a safe space for self-expression. In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, the game allows me to explore my creativity without any fear of judgment. I can build whatever I can dream up, and the freedom to create is refreshing. It’s my escape, where I can immerse myself in a world where I’m in control. Building in Minecraft is my favorite aspect of the game because it lets me express my creativity, experience personal growth, and connect with friends. Each structure I create is a reflection of my imagination and effort, turning the game into something much more than just a pastime. It’s a meaningful outlet for self-discovery and connection, and I cherish every moment spent building in that blocky world.
    LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I’m a huge fan of LeBron James for so many reasons, and his impact on and off the court makes him stand out as an incredible athlete and role model. First and foremost, his versatility as a player is unmatched. LeBron can play multiple positions and excel in each, whether he’s scoring, passing, or defending. Watching him make those jaw-dropping plays and dominate games is thrilling, and it’s inspiring to see how he consistently pushes his limits to improve. Another reason I admire LeBron is his dedication to his craft. His work ethic is legendary, and it shows in his performance. He puts in countless hours training, studying the game, and maintaining his physical condition, which is impressive given how long he’s been in the league. He entered the NBA at just 18 and has managed to stay at the top of his game for over two decades. That level of longevity is remarkable and speaks volumes about his commitment and passion for basketball. Off the court, LeBron is equally impressive. He uses his platform to advocate for social justice and education, which sets a great example for young people everywhere. His philanthropic efforts, like founding the “I PROMISE School” in Akron, Ohio, demonstrate his dedication to giving back to his community and helping children achieve their dreams. It’s inspiring to see someone so successful using their influence to make a positive difference. Now, when it comes to the debate about whether LeBron is the greatest basketball player of all time, I think it’s definitely a conversation worth having. He has an incredible list of achievements, including multiple MVP awards, NBA championships, and All-Star selections. His ability to impact games and elevate his teammates sets him apart. However, the “greatest of all time” (GOAT) discussion often includes players like Michael Jordan, who also had a profound impact on the game and boasts an impressive championship record. In my opinion, the title of the greatest player can be subjective. It depends on what criteria you value most: individual stats, championships, influence on the game, or off-court impact. LeBron has excelled in all these areas and continues to evolve his game, which is why I think he deserves to be in the conversation. Ultimately, I believe that appreciating the greatness of both LeBron and Jordan can coexist, as they both brought something unique to the sport. I admire LeBron James not only for his skills and accomplishments on the basketball court but also for his character and contributions to society. Whether or not he’s the greatest of all time might be up for debate, but his legacy as one of the best players and role models in sports history is undeniable.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I’ve been a fan of Sabrina Carpenter for years, and my admiration for her began with her role as Maya Hart in Girl Meets World. The show was one of my favorites, blending humor, friendship, and important life lessons. Maya’s character resonated with me because she was a strong, creative girl navigating the ups and downs of adolescence, which made me feel like I wasn’t alone in my own experiences. Sabrina’s performance brought Maya to life in a way that was both relatable and inspiring. I loved how she tackled challenges with resilience and creativity. Watching her character grow throughout the series encouraged me to embrace my own individuality and not be afraid to express myself. The dynamic between the characters, specially Maya and her best friend Riley taught me the value of friendship and support, which I carry into my own relationships today. Beyond Girl Meets World, Sabrina’s career as a singer and actress has had a significant impact on me. Her music reflects a range of emotions that many young people experience, and her lyrics often touch on themes of self-discovery and empowerment. Songs like "Skinny Dipping" and "Vicious" really resonate with me, as they encapsulate the rollercoaster of teenage life, full of ups and downs, but ultimately about finding your own path. Sabrina’s ability to navigate both acting and music has inspired me to pursue my own passions. It shows that you can have multiple interests and excel in them. Her work ethic and dedication to her craft motivate me to stay focused on my goals, whether in academics, my community service projects, or my future career aspirations. In a world where it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, Sabrina Carpenter represents someone who embraces her journey with authenticity and creativity. Her journey reminds me that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them, reinforcing the idea that growth comes from both success and failure. As a fan, I appreciate her vulnerability and strength, and I aspire to embody those qualities in my own life. Overall, Sabrina Carpenter’s career has influenced me in many ways, from her role in Girl Meets World to her music and beyond. She serves as a reminder to stay true to myself and pursue my passions, and I am grateful for the impact she has had on my life.

    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One lyric from Olivia Rodrigo's album "GUTS" that resonates with me is from the song "All-American Bitch": "I'm just a kid, I’m not a saint." This line encapsulates the essence of adolescence, highlighting the struggle of navigating the complexities of growing up while grappling with expectations and self-identity. As teenagers, we often find ourselves caught in a whirlwind of emotions and experiences. This lyric reflects the internal conflict many of us face: the pressure to conform to societal ideals while simultaneously trying to figure out who we truly are. The phrase "I'm just a kid" serves as a reminder that, despite the weight of adult responsibilities and expectations, we are still in a phase of discovery and learning. It emphasizes that it's okay to be imperfect, to make mistakes, and to not have everything figured out. The addition of "I’m not a saint" further captures the challenges of adolescence, where we may feel judged for our choices and actions. It acknowledges that we all have flaws and moments of weakness, which is a natural part of growing up. This sentiment resonates with my own experiences, where I sometimes feel the pressure to be perfect or meet certain standards. Rodrigo’s honesty about her imperfections is refreshing and relatable, reminding me that I’m not alone in my struggles. This lyric also highlights the feeling of being misunderstood during these formative years. Teenagers often experience intense emotions and face dilemmas that can feel overwhelming. Rodrigo’s candidness about her feelings allows us to connect with her on a deeper level, as we see ourselves in her struggles. It encourages a sense of solidarity among listeners, fostering a community where we can embrace our imperfections and support one another. One of the most significant ways Olivia Rodrigo's music has impacted my life is by helping me connect with others who share similar experiences and emotions. Her lyrics often serve as conversation starters, allowing me to bond with classmates who relate to the same feelings of confusion and vulnerability. Whether discussing our favorite songs or singing along to her lyrics, her music has created a sense of community among my peers. It’s amazing how a shared appreciation for her authenticity can lead to friendships built on understanding and support. These connections have made my teenage experience feel less isolating and more like a collective journey, where we can navigate the ups and downs of adolescence together. Through her music, I've found a group of friends who not only understand me but also uplift one another as we face the challenges of growing up. Olivia Rodrigo's lyric from "All-American Bitch" perfectly captures the essence of adolescence, reflecting the challenges we face in our journey toward self-discovery. It reminds us that it’s okay to be a work in progress and that we are not alone in our experiences. This authenticity is what makes her music resonate so deeply with teenagers like me, who are navigating the complexities of growing up.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish’s music resonates with me on many levels, and my top three songs: “Bury a Friend,” “Bad Guy,” and “Ocean Eyes”, each connect with different aspects of my life. My journey into her music began when I discovered nightcore versions of her songs while exploring various playlists. The upbeat, sped-up remixes piqued my curiosity, prompting me to seek out the original tracks and dive deeper into her discography. “Bury a Friend” stands out for its haunting melody and introspective lyrics. This song explores themes of fear and the complexities of mental health, which I find incredibly relatable. Eilish's ability to articulate the darker corners of the mind speaks to the challenges we all face when grappling with our inner thoughts. The vivid imagery she employs captures the rawness of anxiety in a way that feels both honest and validating. Listening to this song reminds me of the importance of confronting difficult emotions rather than pushing them aside. “Bad Guy” is another favorite of mine, not only for its catchy beat but also for its clever lyrics and assertive attitude. This song embodies a sense of empowerment and confidence that resonates deeply with me. Eilish cleverly subverts traditional roles in relationships, which is refreshing and thought-provoking. Its playful yet bold tone encourages me to embrace my identity and express myself without hesitation, reminding me to own who I am. Lastly, “Ocean Eyes” offers a beautiful contrast to the intensity of the other two songs. Its ethereal sound and gentle vulnerability showcase a softer side of Eilish's artistry. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and introspection, making it perfect for moments of reflection. This song resonates with me because it captures the beauty and fragility of emotions, highlighting the importance of cherishing moments of peace and connection, even amid life’s challenges. These three songs illustrate Eilish’s remarkable range as an artist, exploring the depths of mental health while celebrating self-empowerment and the nuances of human emotion. Each track holds a special significance for me, reflecting various aspects of my experiences and feelings. Her ability to express complex emotions through her music makes her work profoundly impactful and relatable. Discovering her through nightcore opened up a new world of musical exploration for me, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Her songs serve as anthems for my personal journey, guiding me through the ups and downs of life.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
I believe mental health is crucial because it affects every aspect of our lives, our relationships, our work, and even our physical health. When I reflect on my own journey, I realize how important it is to prioritize mental wellness, especially after struggling with thoughts of self-harm. There was a time when I found myself lost in dark fantasies, imagining a world without me. Those thoughts weighed heavily on my heart, creating a barrier between me and the life I wanted to lead. During that challenging period, I often felt isolated and overwhelmed, believing that no one could understand the depth of my pain. However, it was through my faith that I began to see a glimmer of hope. Religion became a lifeline for me, guiding me through the darkest moments and reminding me that I am not alone. I found solace in prayer and the teachings of my faith, which emphasized love, compassion, and the intrinsic value of life. This spiritual connection gave me strength and helped shift my perspective on life. To maintain my mental wellness today, I actively engage with my faith. I start my day with prayer, grounding myself in gratitude and positivity. Reading scripture offers me inspiration and comfort, reminding me of the purpose and beauty in life. I also participate in my church community, where I find support and encouragement from others who share similar beliefs and values. This sense of belonging fosters connections that uplift me, helping me combat feelings of loneliness and despair. Additionally, I prioritize self-care in various forms. I make it a point to spend time in nature, exercise, and engage in activities I love, like reading and crocheting. These moments of joy and relaxation help me recharge and maintain a balanced mindset. I’ve learned to recognize my triggers and practice mindfulness, allowing myself to pause and reflect instead of spiraling into negative thoughts and feelings. While I still navigate the complexities of my mental health, I know that my faith is a cornerstone of my resilience. It has taught me that life is precious, even in the face of adversity. By embracing the support of my community and focusing on my mental wellness, I continue to grow and heal, transforming my pain into purpose. My journey reminds me that mental health is not just important; it’s vital to living a fulfilling and meaningful life, inspiring others in the process.
    Bear Fan Scholarship
In my vision for the perfect ending of "The Bear" , the series wraps up with a heartwarming and vibrant finale that brings a satisfying sense of resolution and joy, especially for Sydney, who truly deserves better than what she’s had to endure. Imagine this: the episode kicks off with a flurry of excitement on opening day at the new restaurant, cleverly named “The Bear’s Den.” The air is filled with the tantalizing aromas of dishes that reflect the team's journey, and the kitchen buzzes with energy as the crew works in perfect harmony. It’s chaotic, sure, but in the best possible way, showcasing how far they’ve come together as a family. Sydney, after all her hard work and determination, steps into her role as head chef with confidence and flair. She finally gets the recognition she deserves, proving that she’s not just an assistant but a culinary powerhouse in her own right. Picture her crafting a stunning signature dish that pays tribute to her late father, a beautiful blend of memories and flavors that leave everyone speechless. To top it off, they host a community dinner in his honor, where patrons share heartfelt stories about how the restaurant has touched their lives, reinforcing the importance of family and connection. Carmy finds his groove, too! Instead of being caught up in the relentless chaos, he learns to balance his role as a leader and a friend. He’s more present, supporting Sydney and encouraging the rest of the crew to shine in their own ways. The stress that once overwhelmed him melts away, replaced by a sense of purpose and camaraderie that feels genuinely fulfilling. Richie, who has really turned things around, takes on the role of front-of-house manager with style. He’s the life of the party, bringing his trademark humor and charm to the dining experience. You can just imagine him joking with customers and making everyone feel at home while keeping things running smoothly. His journey of redemption is evident as he fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere, proving that he’s grown into a reliable and caring presence. And let’s not forget Marcus! He pursues his dream of becoming a pastry chef, finally breaking free from the shadow of the kitchen’s pressure. By the end of the series, he opens his own quirky little bakery, complete with mouthwatering treats that are as inventive as he is. The neighborhood rallies around him, celebrating his success and supporting his journey. The series wraps up with a montage of each character thriving in their own right, but what really pulls at the heartstrings is the final scene. The crew gathers at The Bear’s Den for a celebratory meal, laughter filling the air as they reminisce about their journey together. It’s a moment of pure joy, highlighting the love and connection that has formed around the table. This ending would be perfect for me as a fan because it celebrates the resilience and growth of each character, especially Sydney, who finally gets her moment in the spotlight. It captures the essence of The Bear the power of food, friendship, and community. Plus, who doesn’t love a good happy ending where everyone gets to chase their dreams? It would leave us all smiling, feeling uplifted, and ready for seconds!
Lindsey Vonn ‘GREAT Starts With GRIT’ Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have faced numerous obstacles that have shaped my gritty mindset and strengthened my determination to succeed. One of the most significant challenges has been navigating my education while dealing with financial strain. Growing up in a single-parent household, I watched my mother, a dedicated nurse, work tirelessly to provide for our family. Despite her efforts, the thought of affording college weighed heavily on both of us. Seeing her sacrifices motivated me to adopt a gritty attitude. I understood that my success depended not just on hard work but also on being resourceful and resilient. I made it my mission to seek out scholarships, apply for financial aid, and take advantage of every opportunity to lessen the burden on my family. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and creativity in problem-solving, pushing me to remain focused on my goals despite the odds. Balancing my academic responsibilities with family obligations has been another challenge that required a gritty mindset. In addition to my studies, I help care for my grandmother, who requires assistance with her medications, nutrition, and medical appointments. This responsibility often feels overwhelming, especially during busy school periods. However, I have learned to prioritize my time and manage my schedule effectively. The experience has taught me the value of discipline and the importance of setting boundaries. I often have to remind myself that while my responsibilities at home are significant, my education is equally important. Embracing this duality has instilled a sense of grit in me, driving me to push through difficult days and stay committed to both my family and my studies. Moreover, my experiences have taught me resilience. There were times when I faced setbacks, whether it was a challenging class or an unexpected family situation that required my attention. Rather than allowing these challenges to defeat me, I learned to view them as opportunities for growth. Each obstacle became a lesson, teaching me to adapt, reassess, and continue moving forward. I developed a mindset that embraces discomfort and challenges, knowing that these moments are often the catalysts for personal growth. Looking ahead, I know that the challenges I’ve faced have prepared me for the rigors of higher education and beyond. I am committed to using the grit I’ve cultivated to not only achieve my academic and career goals but also to inspire others. I want to show my peers that perseverance in the face of adversity can lead to success. By sharing my journey and the lessons I’ve learned, I hope to encourage those around me to embrace their own challenges with the same gritty mindset that has become a defining feature of my life. In doing so, I aspire to create a ripple effect of resilience and determination in my community.
Rev. and Mrs. E B Dunbar Scholarship
One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in my pursuit of higher education has been financial strain. Growing up in a single-parent household, I’ve watched my mom work tirelessly as a nurse to provide for our family. She often sacrifices her own needs to ensure I have everything I need to succeed. Her dedication has been inspiring, but seeing the financial demands of college can be daunting. I know how much she wants me to have a bright future without the burden of student debt, so I’ve been determined to seek out scholarships and financial aid opportunities to help lighten that load. Maintaining high grades and applying for every scholarship I can find is my way of honoring her sacrifices and ensuring that I can pursue my dreams without adding to her stress. Another challenge I’ve faced is balancing schoolwork with family responsibilities. I help take care of my grandmother, assisting her with medications, dietary needs, and medical appointments. While this responsibility can be demanding, it has taught me valuable lessons in empathy, patience, and time management. Juggling these responsibilities while staying on top of my studies hasn’t always been easy, but it has strengthened my commitment to my goals. It has also given me a unique perspective on the importance of healthcare, which drives my desire to make a difference in this field. In the future, I plan to use my education in electrical engineering to give back to my community by designing technologies that can improve healthcare accessibility and safety. My interest in this area was sparked by learning about medical devices and the technologies that have supported my grandmother’s healthcare. I envision creating devices that enhance the quality of life for patients with limited mobility or health challenges, ensuring they receive the care they need. I am also passionate about mentoring the next generation, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds. I understand what it feels like to face obstacles and doubt whether I can achieve my goals. I want to show these students that they can overcome challenges and pursue careers in STEM. By sharing my journey and supporting them in finding opportunities, I hope to empower them to dream big and take the steps needed to make those dreams a reality. Ultimately, I want to use my education not just for personal success but to uplift others in my community and make a meaningful impact.
    Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
An ideal #BookTok-inspired bookshelf would be a mix of beloved classics, must-read fantasies, swoon-worthy romances, and emotionally complex stories, all carefully curated to capture the essence of what makes BookTok so popular. Starting with essentials, you’d see books like "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas, which introduced countless readers to an addictive blend of fantasy and romance. This book’s influence on #BookTok is huge, as it opened the door to a whole genre of high-stakes romance adventures that fans can’t stop talking about. Alongside it, "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller would sit proudly, with its heartbreaking retelling of Greek mythology captivating the community. It’s a staple for anyone wanting a deep, emotional experience that makes you think about love, loss, and loyalty long after you close the book. The shelf would also include titles like "It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover, which sparked discussions on complex relationships and real-world issues that resonate deeply with readers. Its huge impact on #BookTok has not only created a genre of contemporary romances with weightier themes but has also made Colleen Hoover a household name. Next to it, you’d find "Six of Crows" by Leigh Bardugo, a thrilling heist story with morally complex characters that has inspired countless fan edits and discussions. The book’s found family trope and intricate plotting have made it essential reading for fans of YA fantasy and action. In recent months, the series that’s truly divided #BookTok is Rebecca Yarros’s *Fourth Wing* and its sequel, "Iron Flame". "Fourth Wing" took off with its mix of intense romance, dragon-riding adventures, and unexpected plot twists, creating an instant fanbase that couldn’t wait for the sequel. But "Iron Flame" has left fans polarized, with some feeling it falls short of the first book. A significant part of the debate comes from whether "Iron Flame" focuses too much on generating viral moments, love triangles, cliffhangers, and big plot twists, instead of building a natural, character-driven story. For some, this feels like the book was written more to cater to social media trends than to truly continue the world and characters introduced in "Fourth Wing". Yet, others believe "Iron Flame" reflects the evolution of publishing, with books being crafted to give readers the high-energy, twisty storytelling they love. For these fans, Yarros’s approach doesn’t diminish the quality; it actually acknowledges #BookTok’s influence and keeps them engaged. This divide over "Iron Flame" taps into a broader conversation on #BookTok about whether writing for viral appeal sacrifices storytelling, or if it simply makes stories more accessible and exciting for readers who live for those intense reactions and plot twists. A #BookTok-inspired bookshelf wouldn’t just have crowd favorites but would also reflect the diversity of tastes and opinions that make #BookTok so vibrant. It would capture the wide spectrum of genres that resonate with readers, from fantasy and romance to modern classics and tear-jerkers, showcasing the range of books that are reshaping how readers discover, discuss, and engage with literature online. The debate over books like "Iron Flame" would be a key part of this bookshelf, showing that in a community this passionate, it’s the discussions, even the disagreements, that truly bring these stories to life.
    Abner & Irmene Memorial Scholarship
In Nigeria, names carry deep significance, and mine is no exception. My middle name, Anuoluwapo, means “The mercy of God is plenty.” But as a child, I hated it. Ruthless elementary schoolers would mock me endlessly once they discovered it, and I longed to be like everyone else: silent and unnoticed. Over time, however, the silence I found comfort in became stifling. My name, my culture, and my voice all seemed to fade in the noise of others. Silence was ingrained in me from a young age. In many Nigerian homes, children are expected to obey without question, their thoughts and emotions stifled. Even crying was seen as defiance, a punishable offense. My tears, my fears: everything was kept inside. I was expected to be silent, and I was. I didn’t know how to stand up for myself. When I was hurt, disrespected, or felt small, I would retreat, curling up in my room, choking on the words I was never allowed to speak. For years, I lived in this silence. I thought it was normal, that keeping quiet was a way of surviving. But deep down, the silence was suffocating me. It wasn’t until I found my faith in God that I realized the power of breaking that silence. God became my voice when I felt I had none. When I was weak, He carried me. When I was silent, He spoke for me. In those moments of isolation and fear, His presence gave me the strength I had been missing. Slowly, I began to understand that I didn’t have to accept disrespect or swallow my feelings just to keep the peace. I began to see that silence, for me, was no longer a refuge, it was a prison. As I grew in my faith, I learned to challenge the expectations that had once kept me quiet. In my community, where obedience and silence were often seen as virtues, I began to speak up. It wasn’t easy, but with each step, I felt my voice grow stronger. I realized that God had given me the power to speak the truth, even when it was hard. The silence that had once held me captive now became a distant memory. My name, Anuoluwapo, once a source of embarrassment, has become a symbol of the mercy that helped me find my voice. I carry it proudly, knowing that it reflects both the challenges I’ve faced and the strength I’ve gained. Today, I no longer allow silence to define me. Instead, I choose to speak with conviction, knowing that my words have weight and that my voice matters. Silence was once my reality, but now, it is my choice. I can choose to be silent or to speak, and that choice makes all the difference. My journey is not one of silence, but of finding my voice, and that voice is powerful.

As I dive deeper into the world of technology, I’ve become captivated by the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to make a real difference in people’s lives. My hands-on experience in this field has opened my eyes to innovative solutions that can bridge the gap between technology and everyday needs. A project that stands out to me is the NEDC Project, where I developed unique glasses for the blind that help them "see" through cameras, motion sensors, and responsive audio. The NEDC Project started as an after-school activity in the M.E.S.A. (Math Engineering Science Achievement) club, and it was driven by my desire to create something meaningful for individuals with visual impairments. I wanted to use AI and ML to design a tool that could empower the blind to navigate their surroundings with greater confidence. To kick things off, I researched existing technologies and learned about the challenges that visually impaired individuals face daily. This research inspired me to create smart glasses equipped with cameras that capture the environment in real time. Using machine learning algorithms, I trained the glasses to recognize objects, obstacles, and even faces. The motion sensors I incorporated allowed the glasses to detect movement and provide audio feedback, helping users be aware of their surroundings. For instance, if the glasses sensed an object in the user's path, they would issue audio cues to alert the user, suggesting alternative routes. This feature was crucial for helping users navigate safely and with more independence. The development process wasn’t without its challenges. I faced everything from coding hurdles to ensuring the hardware worked seamlessly. But through it all, I learned valuable lessons in problem-solving and resilience. Collaborating with my peers in M.E.S.A. enriched the project; we bounced ideas off each other and helped troubleshoot various issues. I also sought feedback from individuals in the visually impaired community, which helped refine the glasses and ensure they truly met their needs. Working on the NEDC Project lit a fire in me for AI and machine learning. It made me realize just how much these technologies can improve lives. Competing in the National Engineering Design Competition (NEDC) through M.E.S.A. further solidified my desire to innovate and create solutions for underserved communities. I want to develop technologies that not only enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities but also foster a more inclusive society. Looking ahead, I envision expanding the NEDC Project by adding more advanced AI features, like natural language processing, which would allow users to interact with the glasses using voice commands. I also plan to explore partnerships with organizations that support the blind community to refine the product and distribute it where it’s needed most. By harnessing the power of AI and machine learning, I believe we can tackle real-world challenges and make a difference in people’s lives. Ultimately, my hands-on experience with AI and machine learning—especially through the NEDC Project and my involvement in M.E.S.A. has fueled my passion for pursuing a career in technology. I’m committed to continuing my education in this field and developing solutions that empower others. I truly believe that by creating technologies that uplift and support those who need it most, I can make a lasting impact. Through creativity, collaboration, and a focus on accessibility, I hope to help shape a future where technology enhances the lives of everyone, regardless of their abilities.

To me, selflessness means putting others before myself when they need help the most without expecting anything in return. It is about serving, uplifting, and making a positive difference in someone else’s life, even if it requires personal sacrifice. Through several experiences in my life, I have come to understand what it means to be selfless, and each of these moments has shaped my desire to give back to others in meaningful ways. One of the most impactful examples of selflessness in my life has been taking care of my grandmother. As her health declined, she needed extra support managing her diabetes. Without hesitation, I took on the responsibility of administering her medications, checking her blood sugar levels, and making sure she followed a balanced diet. I also drove her to her doctor’s appointments and made sure she stayed active. My grandmother has always been a loving figure in my life, and seeing her struggle was difficult, but being able to help her in small ways brought me a sense of purpose. It also taught me patience, empathy, and responsibility: values that guide my approach to helping others. Another instance where I embodied selflessness was through my involvement in my church. As a member of Mount of Salvation Church, I regularly participate in charity work, helping distribute food, clothing, and toiletries to the homeless in our community. Seeing people receive these necessities reminds me of how much we often take for granted. But my role in these efforts is more than just giving out material items. I spend time talking with those who come for help, listening to their stories, and offering words of encouragement. For me, being selfless means not only providing for people’s physical needs but also offering them emotional support and reminding them they are not alone in their struggles. One of my favorite memories of practicing selflessness was during a community play we hosted at my church. While many people were focused on acting and rehearsing, I chose to work behind the scenes, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. I helped set up props, organize costumes, and ensure everyone had what they needed before and during the performance. Even though my contributions were not in the spotlight, I knew that the success of the event depended on everyone’s collective efforts. Seeing the joy on people’s faces after the performance reminded me that sometimes selflessness means working quietly to support others and help them shine. For me, selflessness is not always about grand, noticeable gestures. It is about consistently being there for others when they need you, even in small, unnoticed ways. Whether I am caring for my grandmother, helping those less fortunate, or playing a behind-the-scenes role in community events, I have learned that selflessness is about making someone else’s well-being a priority. It is this mindset that drives me to keep helping others, knowing that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact on someone’s life.

Growing up in a household filled with tension, I often found solace in the clouds, calm and steady, despite the chaos below. When my parents fought, I would retreat into imaginary worlds with my toys, creating stories where I had control. The clouds became my refuge, a symbol of peace amidst the turbulence. They reminded me that even when storms rolled in, there was always calm above. From the outside, I appeared obedient—quiet, compliant, always doing what was expected. But my silence wasn’t out of docility; it was my way of managing the storm at home. I believed that by being “the good child,” I could ease the tension between my parents, much like how clouds soften the intensity of the sun. This survival instinct shaped me, making me sensitive to the needs of others while driving a desire for stability in my own life. The day my father left, everything changed. My mother, brother, and I were left to face a new reality. Without hesitation, my mother became both our provider and caregiver. Like clouds that carry their weight without complaint, she bore her responsibilities with quiet strength. Her resilience became my guide. She worked tirelessly, balancing work and home without ever faltering, even when the load was heavy. Watching my mother’s strength had a profound impact on me. I realized that success, like the movement of clouds, doesn’t come without challenges. It requires perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to keep going. If my mother could handle all the pressure of supporting our family, I knew I could rise to meet my challenges. My mother’s sacrifices also instilled in me a deep sense of financial responsibility. I watched her juggle bills, cut back on personal expenses, and do everything possible to make sure my brother and I had what we needed. This sparked a determination in me to work hard, to seek out opportunities that would allow me to succeed without adding to her burden. Just as clouds carry the weight of rain before a clear sky, I understood that putting in the effort now would lead to brighter days ahead. This realization drove my pursuit of academic excellence. Throughout high school, I’ve worked diligently to maintain high grades while participating in internships and extracurriculars to ensure I could earn scholarships. I know that by doing so, I can ease the financial strain of college on my family. Every decision I make is with the goal of lifting some of the weight off my mother’s shoulders. My aspirations are shaped by the challenges I’ve faced, and my mother’s example has been the most influential factor in my journey. She taught me that success isn’t about avoiding the storms but about weathering them and continuing forward, just as clouds do. Her resilience has become the foundation for everything I strive for, and her sacrifices motivate me to push harder in everything I do. As I prepare for the next chapter of my life, I carry these lessons with me. My goal is to succeed: not just for myself but for my family. I want to ensure my mother never has to worry about being burdened with debt for my education. Like clouds that pass through storms and bring clear skies, I know that with hard work, perseverance, and faith, I can create a brighter future for us all.
