My decision in taking an art course was always a decision that I was fully confident in taking. As a child, I loved drawing, it was always something I enjoyed doing. I adored the arts, especially animation; something about stories and its characters always piqued my interest in a way that no other hobby could.
When I was a kid, I loved watching cartoons & reading comic books. My family would have DVDs of animated movies & T.V, series from all kinds of studios, like Disney, Don Bluth, Nickelodeon, and more. I'd go with my mom to the library to look at the comic books while she was looking at the movies. During elementary school, I always drew in my notebooks and whenever I had time to watch some videos on my iPad, I watched a lot of short, animated films. Then, I started doing some drawings myself, buying sketchbooks & notepads just to draw. I even drew some comics for myself and eventually started creating stories with my own characters. Over time, as I grew up, my love for art & drawing hasn't stopped growing. My love for creating has given me the ability to create stories & characters that have grown with me over the years. But everyone in my life started asking me the question that stumped me over the years; What do you want to be when you grow up?
My future was always something that I hadn’t figured out as a kid. I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do for myself when I was going to be an adult. All I knew was that I needed to have a job in mind, something that I had to have in the future. Over the years, my answers would change constantly; Doctor, Ballerina, Video Game Maker, all of these job options never stuck to me. However, as soon as I started entering high school, I started to really reflect on what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to continue learning to better my skills as an artist. But I also wanted a future where I am happy doing what I love and that was drawing. I soon started to look into careers in art, specifically animation. After researching careers in animation, I then realized what I wanted to do, Character Design. Character Design was perfect for me; Its whole purpose is to visually create and design any character for an assigned project. From video games to movies, it was the career that I was set on having for my future. I wanted to use my creativity to have a career that designs characters with a story. To put my ideas into the world because I genuinely enjoyed the mediums that I consumed as a child, and they all had me inspired to put my stories & my characters into the world. I want to continue my passion for the arts with me and to love my art as it is.
