From the beginning of my life, I was lucky enough to have my grandmother and grandfather raise me due to the abandonment of bio mom and dad. They have taught me to never give up on my dreams and stay passionate about what I believe in. My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor but was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. Through her surgeries and ongoing chemotherapy, she has taught me so much about courage, determination, and no matter how bad situations get, you have to keep pushing! I am forever grateful for the sacrifices my grandparents have made. Their unconditional love has made me the determined young man that I am and will continue to be. I continue to support my family in many ways. I help with household chores, grocery shopping, picking up medications, and outside chores as well. I can never repay them for every life lesson that I was taught by them. During my high school years, I was a defender on the Varsity LaCrosse Team. Unfortunately, I tore my ACL and had surgery to repair my knee. Physical therapy afterward was very tough but I was determined to get through the worst because I wanted to play again! I kept pushing and training and I did play again. I will be playing again this year. Attending college has always been important and I will keep rising above any obstacles that I may face. I had great teachers in high school. They helped me along my journey in school. Each teacher taught me the importance of higher education. Many of them taught with respect and dignity. THEY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE. I am so grateful for planting a positive seed that will continue to lead me throughout my life. No one expects their junior year to be easy but it is especially not easy for me. My largest setback was when I tore my ACL in my sophomore year of high school. I had to overcome physical therapy and stay motivated to get back on the playing field. In June 2021 is when my life changed drastically when I had a complete tear of my ACL. I had reconstruction surgery in late July and a few days later started my rehab process. It was the hardest, saddest time of my life. I could barely get out of bed sometimes just to go to the bathroom which caused me to almost want to give up on sports completely. I had a wonderful athletic trainer, Mrs. Fincham. All of the occasional swelling moved down into my calf which caused cramping and severe pain. My injury made me miss my whole junior year on the basketball court and the first month or so of my lacrosse season. I kept on pushing myself until I could not anymore but I had my biggest support system in my life which is my family. Every small success we would all celebrate together and for every tiny setback, they would support me and remind me that even though you hit a setback, it always leads to a major comeback. Finally, my long rehab came to end after nine months and I was ready to get back to lacrosse. I learned no matter how many setbacks you hit and how much you may want to quit, do not ever give up no matter what life throws at you because, at the end of the day, the reward is amazing! During my junior year, I also faced another challenge but this time it was not me but someone very close to me. My grandmother was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. This was a very tough time for me because of the role my grandmother has in my life. My grandparents raised me and lived with them all my life. They are my mother and father. They have done so much for me and I’m beyond blessed and grateful to have them as my parents. My grandmother’s cancer diagnosis caused her not to be able to come to my lacrosse games and support me from how sick she was. She would always tell me to stay as strong as I possibly can through thick and thin and I reiterated to her that she can get through it no matter how sick or weak it made her. No matter if it was chemotherapy or surgery she kept on pushing through. Just recently she has become cancer free and is now doing much better but she kept on pushing and finally beat cancer. All together these were some of the toughest times in my life but whatever life threw at me, I still persevered and so did my family throughout all of the hardships we encountered.
