The pursuit of a better life is the driving force for many immigrant families who come to the United States. For my mother, this struggle is magnified as she carries the responsibility of both providing for her children and ensuring she has opportunities for success in a new and often unfamiliar environment. A common aspiration among many mothers is to give their children a chance to pursue their dreams, no matter how difficult it may be to achieve. In the case of my single immigrant mother raising a child who wants to pursue a career in business, the situation becomes even more complex. Business careers typically require a combination of education, experience, and resources—luxuries that many immigrants, especially those in single-parent households, do not have. My mother’s focus, however, remains unwavering: ensuring that I can break free from the limitations that shaped her own life. Despite the financial burden and the numerous obstacles in her path, she encourages my ambition daily, hoping that the sacrifice she makes now will lead to a brighter future for her family. Being the child of an immigrant parent, the decision to pursue a career in business can be both a personal ambition and a desire to honor my mom’s sacrifices. Being the child of a single immigrant mother, particularly one who has seen their parent struggle firsthand, may feel a profound sense of responsibility to succeed, not only for myself but for my mother as well. Business, as a career, offers the promise of upward mobility, independence, and financial stability—all things my mom has worked tirelessly to achieve, but has been unable to secure for herself. For me, the challenge lies not only in meeting these financial demands but also in navigating a system that may feel alien and sometimes unwelcoming. The Struggle for Financial Security and Opportunity for my single immigrant mother, supporting my dream of becoming a business professional can seem impossible. She tens to work multiple jobs, endure physical and emotional exhaustion, and face constant stress over how to cover basic expenses. In many cases, my mother is limited in her ability to access financial aid, loans, or support from relatives, further complicating the path forward. The ambition to succeed in business is not just about personal growth—it is also about alleviating the burden on my mom by giving her the life she deserves after years of hard work Additionally, the community support plays a crucial role in my journey. Immigrant communities often provide a network of support, from advice and mentorship ,but lack in financial assistance . Extended family members, neighbors, and friends who have gone through similar struggles have offered guidance and encouragement. My dream of a business career, mentorship within the community—whether from other immigrant business owners or professionals—can help bridge the gap between my aspirations and the practical steps needed to reach my goals. Conclusion The journey of a single immigrant mother supporting her child’s dream of pursuing a career in business is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and hope. While the financial and emotional burdens may seem insurmountable, the deep love and desire to see her children succeed create a powerful force that pushes both me and my mom forward. My ambition to pursue a business career is not just about personal success; it is about honoring the sacrifices made by a parent who has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for her family.

The American Dream, a concept built on the idea that hard work and perseverance can lead to success, is a cornerstone of my immigrant family’s hopes when they arrived in the United States. For my immigrant parents, the ultimate goal often goes beyond personal achievement; it’s about providing their children with opportunities they never had, ensuring their children can achieve a better life. One of the most significant ways to secure this future is through education—particularly a college education. However, the financial realities of affording college in the U.S. can be overwhelming, especially for my family who constantly face additional barriers such as language differences, underemployment, and financial instability. The struggle to pay for their child’s college education is not just a financial burden; it is an emotional and psychological weight that shapes the lives of both parents and children. The Immigrant Dream My immigrant parents come to the United States with high hopes for their children’s futures. They left behind established lives in our home country, Nigeria, sacrificing proximity to extended family, their culture, and sometimes even their careers, in the hopes that their children will have the opportunities they were denied. Education is seen as the primary means to break the cycle of poverty and upward mobility. For many immigrant families, getting a child into college represents the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. However, this dream is often clouded by the harsh reality of the financial demands of American higher education. According to a 2020 study by the Migration Policy Institute, more than 45 million immigrants live in the United States, many of whom are first-generation college students. While I oftentimes excel academically, the burden of tuition fees, living expenses, and student loan debt can weigh heavily on both them and their families. Financial Strain For my parents, the financial strain of paying for college can be particularly challenging. My immigrant family does not have the financial resources to pay for my education upfront. My parents tend to work low-wage jobs or multiple jobs, often without access to benefits like healthcare or paid time off, in order to make ends meet. My parents, hard work and dedication has shaped the man that I am today. I tend to excel academically, volunteer around my community, and always give back to our home country. The once in a lifetime experience of graduating college has always been my American dream. I am exceedingly thankful that my parents are helping me to accomplish my dreams and aspirations. One of my biggest wishes is to graduate University debt-free, and with the career of my dreams.

As I sit here, reflecting on my journey, I am reminded of the day that changed my life forever. I was 18 years old, full of life and energy, with a bright future ahead of me. But on that fateful day, I received a diagnosis that would alter the course of my life: type 1 diabetes. At first, I was in denial. I thought it was a mistake, that the doctors had misdiagnosed me. But as the reality of my condition set in, I began to feel overwhelmed. I had to learn how to manage my blood sugar levels, inject insulin, and monitor my diet. It was a lot to take in, and I felt like my world was crashing down around me. As I navigated this new reality, I began to experience symptoms of depression. The emotional toll of living with a chronic condition, combined with the pressure to maintain a normal life, took its toll on my mental health. I felt like I was losing control, like my body was betraying me. I became withdrawn, isolated, and struggled to find joy in the things that once brought me happiness. The diagnosis of type 1 diabetes was like a weight had been placed on my shoulders. I felt like I was carrying a burden that no one else could understand. I was scared, anxious, and uncertain about my future. I wondered if I would ever be able to live a normal life, if I would ever be able to do the things that I loved without worrying about my blood sugar levels. But as I struggled to come to terms with my diagnosis, I realized that I was not alone. There were others out there who were going through the same thing, who were fighting the same battles. I found solace in online communities, support groups, and forums where people shared their experiences and offered words of encouragement. I also found comfort in creative expression. I started writing, painting, and playing music, and I discovered that these activities helped me to process my emotions and find peace. I wrote about my experiences, about the struggles and the triumphs, and I found that it helped me to heal. I learned to appreciate the little things, to cherish every moment, and to never take my life for granted. I also learned that depression is not something to be ashamed of. It's a real condition that affects millions of people, and it's okay to ask for help. I sought help from a mental health professional, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I learned coping strategies, I learned how to manage my emotions, and I learned how to live with my condition. Today, I know that I am not alone, and I hope that my story can inspire others who may be facing similar challenges. I hope that it can show them that there is hope, that there is a way to live a full and happy life despite the obstacles. I hope that it can remind them that they are not alone, that there are others out there who are fighting the same battles. In conclusion, being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 18 was a life-changing event that taught me valuable lessons about resilience, courage, and determination. It was a challenge, but it was also an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. I hope that my story can inspire others to find the strength to keep going, to never give up, and to always hold on to hope.

I am honestly a true original, a master of self-expression who wears his creativity on his sleeve - literally. Through my bold and eclectic fashion sense, I tend to showcase my unique personality and artistic vision, inspiring those around me to embrace their own individuality. My style is a fusion of different eras, cultures, and aesthetics, reflecting my boundless curiosity and passion for exploration. I can effortlessly blend vintage pieces with modern streetwear, mixing patterns, textures, and colors in a way that is both daring and harmonious. My outfits are a testament to my fearless approach to fashion, as I fearlessly experiment with new looks and push the boundaries of what is considered "fashionable." One of my greatest strengths is my ability to tell a story through clothing. Each outfit is a carefully curated narrative, with every piece playing a specific role in the overall narrative. I might pair a vintage denim jacket with a brightly colored scarf, a statement piece of jewelry, and a pair of distressed jeans, creating a look that is both nostalgically and forward-thinking. My fashion choices are not just about making a statement; they are about conveying a message, evoking emotions, and sparking conversations. My creativity extends far beyond my wardrobe, however. I am a true artist, with a passion for music, art, and performance. I often incorporate elements of these disciplines into fashion, using clothing as a canvas to express my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My outfits might feature hand-painted designs, embroidered lyrics, or even 3D-printed accessories, blurring the lines between fashion, art, and technology. Despite my bold and attention-grabbing style, I am not one to seek the spotlight. I tend to be quite humble and unassuming, preferring to let the clothing speak for itself. However, my confidence and self-assurance is undeniable, and my passion for fashion is infectious. In a world where conformity and sameness often dominate, fashion is my breath of fresh air. I remind others that fashion is a form of art, a means of self-expression, and a way to connect with others. My creativity, confidence, and passion for fashion is a testament to the power of individuality, inspiring others to be bolder, more daring, and more unapologetically ourselves. In conclusion, I can be a true creative force, a master of self-expression who uses fashion as a means of storytelling, artistic expression, and connection. My bold and eclectic style is a reflection of my unique personality, my passion for exploration, and my commitment to individuality. Through fashion, I oftentimes inspire others to embrace their own creativity, to take risks, and to celebrate what makes them unique. I aspire to be a shining example of the transformative power of fashion, reminding everyone that clothing is not just something we wear, but a way to express ourselves, to connect with others, and to leave our mark on the world.

I wondered if I would ever be able to live a normal life, if I would ever be able to do the things that I loved without worrying about my blood sugar levels. I would love to change the world, one step at a time to cater better in regards of diabetes. There are several innovative business ideas that cater to the needs of people like me with diabetes, including health food services, medical supply companies, and digital health solutions. For instance, a company could offer home-delivered diabetic meals prepared by professional chefs. This service would not only provide healthy and delicious food options but also cater to the specific dietary needs of individuals with diabetes. Another idea is to develop an app that enhances diabetes management through AI image recognition and blood glucose monitoring. This app could reward positive eating habits and provide personalized recommendations for improving diabetes management. Additionally, pharmacists can play a crucial role in establishing diabetes management services in community and health system settings. Overall, there are numerous innovative business ideas that cater to the needs of people with diabetes, and these ideas have the potential to improve patient outcomes, enhance quality of life, and increase revenue. By combining health food services, medical supply companies, and digital health solutions, businesses can provide comprehensive support to individuals with diabetes and make a significant impact in the healthcare industry.

In the wise words of Walt Disney, "All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." Ever since my adolescence, I have always been devoted to helping others. In recent years, I have volunteered for town clean-ups, food pantry giveaways, and catering to the elderly and veterans in my hometown. I am now in a position of need because I would like to further my education. With the help of this scholarship, I could further my education, and also give back to my community. College has always been a profound dream of mine. This dream has always seemed impossible to accomplish due to my financial position. The last thing I want to do is see my parents struggle to help me get a good education. Graduating college would be an amazing accomplishment that I will cherish forever. My dream is to become financially stable, and also create a non-profit for minorities like myself. Coming from a minority household, my family has always had to worry about finances. I have strong beliefs that this country deserves better situations for families that can not accommodate themselves with a secondary degree. I would love to make a difference one day, and contribute to the success of other struggling minorities across the country. Another dream of mine is to start a nonprofit for diabetes. I was diagnosed with type one(1) diabetes at the age of 18. This news concerned me and my parents because we could not afford the medications prescribed at the time. About 79% of U.S citizens cannot afford insulin. My diagnosis has inspired me to not only give back to my community but to properly bring awareness to the illness. My dream is to make sure that no otherwise known family has to go through the experience of not affording medications or treatment. The healthy lifestyle that controls diabetes is also costly to middle to lower-class Americans all over the country. Many of the nutritious foods that diabetics need are doubled in price due to inflation. I believe that there should be a care package sent to diabetic households that contains foods that are rich in fiber, calcium, proteins, and other beneficial nutrients. To summarize, I have always wanted to make a change in society. Going to college and graduating is simply a stepping stone for me to accomplish my dreams and aspirations. The dreams I have for my future and this country can not only bring me a successful life but can also benefit millions who are dealing with the same challenges as me.

Since I was an infant I have been convinced that my life would never be normal. My life has always been a roller coaster, but I have continually defied the odds. I live by a quote that describes my life perfectly “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope”-by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I believe God has put me through many things throughout my life to build strength and character. Starting from birth, I was born premature with a low expectancy to live. My parents often think that is why I am so adventurous and risk-taking. Thankfully, I am still alive, filled with a purpose and instilled with a readiness to help others. Helping others has always been a passion of mine, which is why I would like to become successful to help my family and community. A few years into my adolescence, I was diagnosed with absences seizures. This affected my life in ways I could not have imagined. That diagnosis did not stop me from living the life I had imagined for myself . My family still supported my goals and triumphs throughout experiencing the devastating moments. One of those devastating moments was when a seizure occurred at school on the most unimaginable day. I thought I would never get better ,and lost hope in fixing my illness. Yet, my family remained optimistic for me to have a normal life. Due to the remarkable work of medicine, I was finally cured of my illness. I thought I could finally live a normal life without constant fear of the unknown. Until a few years later, I fall in the bathroom wondering if I was going to make it out alive. When I got to the hospital I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I had thought that my life was over ,and I came to terms that I will never be normal. Since then, I had been taking life one day at a time by constantly setting goals for myself. One of my main goals is to work in the fashion industry, and with hard work I will meet this goal. My academic goal is to reach and maintain a 4.0 gpa ,and with hard work and dedication that goal can be met as well. After all, I will not let my past experiences limit me and my goals in life. Going through those past experiences have taught me valuable lessons. I will not be the man I am today without going through those trials and tribulations. I have learned to be grateful for today ,and strive for a better tomorrow. “No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be a better tomorrow.”-Maya Angelou
