Stepping off that 10-hour flight was a profound moment of relief, filled with eager anticipation as I looked forward to disembarking the plane and setting foot on American soil. Little did I know that as I touched down, a harsh reality would descend upon me. It was as though I had entered an entirely alien world, one where it felt like there was little waiting for me except uncertainty and challenges. I had left behind everything I held dear - my family, my cherished home, and my most treasured possessions From the earliest days of my life, I learned the harsh truth that existence could be extraordinarily difficult, and people could be astonishingly unkind. I had endured the agony of abuse and witnessed the horrific actions of my own father. Those haunting memories etched themselves into my mind from as far back as the age of four. I comprehended the profound injustice that had befallen my family, and I knew deep in my heart that we needed to escape. I vividly recall pleading with my mother, urgently beseeching her to break free from the grip of this dangerous abuse. And eventually, we did, embarking on a journey into an uncertain future. At times, I found myself yearning for the comforts and luxuries of our past life, only to realize that those belonged to a world we had left behind. The overwhelming feeling of being lost and empty became an inescapable reality. Despite my mother's unwavering efforts to ensure our safety and contentment, my father persistently attempted to complicate our journey to freedom. This led to a premature sense of responsibility, pushing me to be a provider rather than a burden. I became self-reliant to spare my mother additional hardships and challenges. I made it my mission to be her confidant, the one she could talk to, lean on, and seek advice from. My determination to make my mother proud became a driving force. We unfortunately found ourselves in dire need, facing housing insecurity and frequent relocations. Thankfully, Faith House, an organization providing shelter and support to domestic violence victims gave us hope. I started recognizing how even a small effort could make a significant difference in someone's life. Witnessing the kindness and support of these individuals revealed a different facet of humanity to me. It ignited a deep-seated desire to give back and offer support to those in need, recognizing that even a small effort could make an enormous difference in someone's life. From a tender age, I stood beside my mother, volunteering at various community events, and in time, this ignited a passion for helping others. Through my experiences, I learned the importance of maintaining a positive outlook. I realized that what might seem harsh in the present can become more manageable with hard work and a positive attitude. I discovered that no matter how challenging the path may be, faith and hope can light the way. Even when surrounded by people who might disappoint or act heartlessly, the belief of just one person in your potential can be the catalyst for success. The ups and downs, the twists and turns, have defined my life and molded me into the person I am today. Each challenge, though often obscured at the moment, has imparted invaluable lessons, shaping me into a better person not just for my own sake but for the betterment of those around me.

As a devout Muslim, I believe that Islam is not just a religion but a complete code of life. Being a Muslim has installed in me a strong set of principles and standards that I have to adhere to. Allah loves the strong Muslim. I will be stronger by excelling in education and achieving success that I can use to benefit society and earn good deeds. The Prophet (PBU) educated us on how to be diligent. A hadith narrated by Al Bukhari in which the Prophet says “Nobody has ever eaten a meal better than that which he has earned from working with his own hands. The Prophet of Allah Dawud [David], would eat from the work of his own hands.” As a man I feel the need to be able to provide for my family and with this scholarship and furthering my education that will tremendously help my goal. The sahabi Ali Ibn Abitalib had said " Work as if you are going to live forever, and pray as if you are going to die tomorrow." It is important to be your best hardworking self in this world to be able to spend eternity in paradise. I feel to accomplish that I need to further my education to be able to be a positive person in society. My Muslim identity also has motivated me to seek education to make a difference in my community. Charity and helping others is the fourth pillar of Islam. Doing good deeds is encouraged in our daily life. As Allah says in the Holy Quran “Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression". I have always been interested in helping my community by volunteering in various events such as cancer runs, cleaning the neighborhood, collecting food for the needy and building with Habitat for Humanity. As a Muslim, I am required to fast in Ramadan from sunrise to sunset. This act of abstaining from food and water for that period has installed in me the strength and discipline to achieve my goals whatever the circumstances. As well as praying at least five times a day has given me structure and strength to rely on through tough times. Being a Muslim has inspired me to do my best, seek knowledge, be successful, help others and be the best person I can be. Receiving this Scholarship will help me to achieve my goals. It will also alleviate the financial burden on my mother who has sacrificed a lot as a single mother for me and my siblings In Islam, mothers are put on a high pedestal as a reward for the hard work they do, and I will make sure that I will take care of my mother when I finish my school. My Muslim identity has significantly influenced my academic and career aspirations by shaping my values and guiding my commitment to education, compassion, and social responsibility. Receiving this scholarship would not only support my educational journey but also empower me to continue making a meaningful difference in the world, in alignment with the principles that define my identity as a Muslim.
