As a kid I was very artistic and didn't realize that my artistic ability would help kids in the future. I went to Voices for Children therapy center after I over come the sexual abuse from a family member through out my child hood. I joined art therapy, it taught me how to express my emotions through art. All around me there were paintings of past kids going through difficult situations. I wanted to create a piece that was going to help a child when they face difficult situations.
In November of 2022 I finally went to court. This was one of the toughest challenges I had to experience. It led to a decline in my mental health due to the negative outcome that took place, but I didn't give up. I went back to therapy and put my emotions into a painting, a painting that changed kids perspective on the world. In this painting it has a night sky with white stars and colorful clouds. Each cloud represented a different emotion I felt as I entered that court room, for example anger, sadness, joy, etc. On the back of the painting I wrote a note for future kids that have to face a scary situation. It stated on how one you enter the room every drop of fear goes away because its a chance for you to get your voice back. Even on the rainiest days there will always be a rainbow to make you smile. That painting ended up on the business cards for Voices for children.
After leaving therapy I found my passion for wanting to help people. I became a cosmetologist to teach people how to express themselves through art, and have applied for college majoring in mental health/ social work. My goal is to work my way up to become a crisis and trauma therapist, so I can go to court with kids and support them as they gain there confidence back. As well as teaching them how to overcome difficult situations and help people that have been in a difficult situation.
Therefore mentally health can always be improved if the right people are there to support not only children but adults in need. I hope in the future I can help a kid make a piece of art that will stand out above them all, sending a message to children letting them know it's okay to fall but you can always work your way back up if you put in the effort.
