What inspired me to study nursing was my family members. Specifically my Grandmother and aunt. My aunt suffered from anaplastic large-cell lymphoma, causing her heart to fail her. Before that, as a young child, she had to deal with stage 2 cancer . She had to spend her whole life in the hospital missing so many opportunities in her life. As well as her. having to deal with the grief of losing family. It made it harder on her mental health and she continued to struggle with countless surgeries and tests as well as treatments. On one random night I received a call from my aunt, her voice was filled with such hope and amazement when she found out that she made it to the top of the donor list and was a candidate. After years of fights, she finally was able to live her life to the fullest. Just recently we took an amazing trip to Puerto Rico and tried ziplining for the first time. Seeing her beat her cancer and have such exciting and memorable memories made me realize that I want to help people just like my aunt, I want to have an impact in people's lives so that they are able to achieve the once-in- a- lifetime experiences that everyone deserves to have. I can be the reason why people want to fight longer or get the help they really need. Another person who has really had a huge impact on my life is my grandmother. I chose nursing as my major because of the influence my grandmother has had on me. She is such a selfless and caring person and always puts others before herself. Even after me and my mother was kicked out she took us in and raised me with such care . I've adopted so many nurturing qualities from my grandmother leading me to be confident in my pursuit of becoming a nurse. I aspire to show people compassionate, patient-centered care to my community in need. I want to be a beacon of support, and encouragement for patients during their most vulnerable experiences and hard moments, helping them navigate the complexities of illness and recovery. I hope to advocate for health equity specifically for smaller and unseen populations.
