My name is Adrian Sanchez, and I recently graduated from Corsicana High School. This fall, I will be attending Texas State Technical College in Waco (TSTC-Waco), where I plan to pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Building Construction Technology (BCT). Throughout my high school years, I have developed a strong interest in mental health, learning much about its importance and the impact it has on individuals and communities. This essay will explore what I have learned about mental health during my high school years and how I plan to apply these lessons in the future.
During my time at Corsicana High School, I have gained a deeper understanding of mental health and its complexities. High school can be a challenging period for many students, as it is a time of significant personal and academic growth. Through various experiences and observations, I have learned several key lessons about mental health:
As I transition to college life at TSTC-Waco, I plan to carry forward the lessons I have learned about mental health and apply them in several ways:
I will actively participate in and support mental health awareness campaigns on campus. By promoting open conversations about mental health, I hope to reduce the stigma and encourage more students to seek help when needed.
I aim to be a supportive friend and classmate, offering a listening ear and encouraging those around me to prioritize their mental health. Creating a positive and understanding environment can make a significant difference.
I will make use of the mental health resources available at TSTC-Waco, such as counseling services and wellness programs. By setting an example, I hope to inspire others to take advantage of these resources as well.
I plan to maintain a balance between my academic responsibilities and personal well-being. This includes managing stress through healthy coping mechanisms, staying organized, and seeking help when needed.
I have learned that developing healthy coping mechanisms and having a strong support system are crucial for maintaining good mental health. Activities such as sports, art, and spending time with friends and family can provide relief and improve mental well-being.
One of the most significant barriers to seeking help for mental health issues is the stigma associated with it. Many students are reluctant to talk about their struggles or seek professional help due to fear of judgment or misunderstanding.
In conclusion, my high school years have provided me with valuable insights into the importance of mental health. As I move forward to TSTC-Waco, I am committed to applying these lessons to promote mental health awareness and support among my peers. By doing so, I hope to contribute to a more understanding and compassionate community.

The military and the act of protecting one's country hold profound significance for me, shaped by a deep respect for those who serve and a belief in the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice. These themes resonate personally, as I reflect on what motivates me in life.
To begin, the military represents the ultimate commitment to safeguarding the freedoms and values upon which a nation is built. The individuals who serve embody bravery and dedication, often putting their lives on the line to protect the liberties that many of us take for granted. This sense of duty and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good is something I hold in the highest regard. It reminds me that freedom is not free, but rather earned and preserved through the efforts and sacrifices of those who serve.
Personally, the notion of protecting one’s country extends beyond the physical act of defense. It encompasses a broader commitment to upholding the principles of justice, democracy, and human rights. The military is a cornerstone in the defense of these ideals, ensuring that the country remains a bastion of hope and opportunity for its citizens and for people around the world. This commitment to justice and the protection of human dignity aligns deeply with my own values and beliefs.
What motivates me in life is a combination of personal growth, contributing to the well-being of others, and leaving a positive impact on the world. The dedication of military personnel inspires me to strive for excellence in my own endeavors, knowing that true fulfillment comes from giving one’s best and serving a purpose greater than oneself. The sense of community and camaraderie found in the military is something I also seek in my personal and professional life, valuing teamwork and collective effort in achieving common goals.
Additionally, stories of resilience and perseverance from those who serve fuel my own determination to overcome challenges. Witnessing or hearing about the unwavering spirit of soldiers in the face of adversity motivates me to face my own obstacles with courage and resolve. It instills in me the belief that with enough determination and effort, any hurdle can be surmounted.
Moreover, the military’s role in disaster response and humanitarian efforts highlights the importance of compassion and empathy. These values guide me in my interactions and endeavors, reminding me to always consider the impact of my actions on others and to lend a helping hand whenever possible. The ability to make a difference, no matter how small, drives me to pursue initiatives that promote the well-being and betterment of those around me.
In conclusion, the military and the act of protecting our country symbolize a profound commitment to defending freedom, upholding justice, and exemplifying selfless service. These principles resonate deeply with me, shaping my motivations and aspirations. The bravery and dedication of those who serve inspire me to strive for excellence, embrace resilience, and contribute positively to the world. It is this combination of personal growth, service to others, and the pursuit of a greater good that ultimately fuels my drive in life.

While I have yet to finalize my major, I am drawn to fields such as social work, education, or public policy, where I can continue to make a positive impact on society and advocate for those in need. I am also excited about the opportunity to engage in research, internships, and other hands-on experiences that will allow me to apply what I've learned in the classroom to real-world problems and challenges.
Moreover, I plan to continue my involvement with the church and community in college, seeking out opportunities to volunteer, serve others, and engage in meaningful service projects. Whether it's joining campus ministry groups, volunteering at local shelters or community centers, or participating in service-learning programs, I am committed to staying true to my values and continuing to make a difference in the lives of others.

Growing up in a humble neighborhood, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of daily life, I found myself drawn to the world of construction from an early age. Despite the modesty of our surroundings, there was an undeniable sense of potential in the air – a belief that with hard work and determination, anything was possible. It was this spirit of optimism that fueled my dreams and inspired me to pursue a career in construction.
For me, the decision to enter the construction industry was deeply personal. It wasn't just about finding a job; it was about finding my purpose, about making a difference in the world around me. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of construction – how it could turn mere bricks and mortar into homes, schools, and community centers that brought people together and changed lives for the better.
With this vision in mind, I set out on a journey of discovery, eager to learn everything I could about the art and science of construction. From studying blueprints and mastering construction techniques to gaining hands-on experience on job sites, every step of the way was a lesson in perseverance and determination. Despite the challenges and setbacks I encountered along the way, I remained steadfast in my pursuit, driven by a deep-seated belief in the importance of my chosen path.
As I delved deeper into the world of construction, I discovered a profound sense of fulfillment in the work itself. There was something inherently rewarding about taking raw materials – concrete, steel, wood – and shaping them into something meaningful, something that would endure long after I was gone. Whether it was building a new home for a family in need or renovating a dilapidated school to give children a brighter future, each project was an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the world.
But beyond the physical structures themselves, I came to realize that construction was about so much more. It was about community, about collaboration, about coming together to achieve a common goal. On job sites, I found myself surrounded by people from all walks of life, each bringing their own unique skills and perspectives to the table. Together, we worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles, solve problems, and bring our shared vision to life.
Now, as I reflect on what home means to me, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the journey that brought me here. Home is not just a place to lay my head at night; it's a sanctuary, a refuge from the chaos of the world. It's a place where memories are made, where laughter echoes through the halls, where loved ones gather to share in life's joys and sorrows. And it's a testament to the power of construction – to the enduring spirit of hope and possibility that resides within us all.

WinnerChoosing a career in construction is often driven by a passion for creating and shaping the physical environment around us. For many, the allure lies in the ability to take raw materials and transform them into functional structures that serve a purpose in society. Whether it's building homes, offices, bridges, or roads, construction workers play a vital role in shaping communities and improving people's lives.
One of the most rewarding aspects of a career in construction is the tangible impact it has on both individuals and communities. By constructing safe and durable buildings and infrastructure, construction professionals provide essential services that enable people to live, work, and thrive. For instance, building affordable housing projects can address housing shortages and provide shelter for families in need. Constructing schools and educational facilities creates environments conducive to learning, empowering future generations. Similarly, building healthcare facilities ensures access to essential medical services, promoting the well-being of communities.
Moreover, the collaborative nature of construction projects fosters teamwork and camaraderie among workers. Construction crews often work closely together, relying on each other's expertise and skills to complete projects successfully. This sense of teamwork not only enhances the quality of work but also creates a supportive and inclusive work environment where individuals can learn from one another and grow professionally.
On a personal level, pursuing a career in construction can provide a sense of accomplishment and pride in one's work. Seeing a project through from conception to completion and witnessing the physical manifestation of one's efforts can be immensely gratifying. Furthermore, construction offers opportunities for continuous learning and skill development, as new techniques, technologies, and materials emerge.
In summary, choosing a career in construction offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the world by improving infrastructure, providing essential services, and shaping the built environment. It's a profession that not only benefits others but also provides personal fulfillment and opportunities for growth and development.
