Scholarship Essay: Humanitarian Service and Educational Goals
Throughout my life, I’ve always believed that my purpose goes beyond personal success—it’s about lifting others up, especially those who come from environments where opportunity is limited. Growing up in Bartow, Florida, I saw the importance of community support and how much of a difference it makes when someone believes in you. As a student-athlete, a young man growing stronger in my faith, and someone who values service, I make it a priority to give back in any way I can.
One way I serve is through mentorship. I regularly speak to middle and high school students in my community, especially young Black males, encouraging them to stay focused on their education and make wise choices. I share my story with them—not just the highlights, but also the challenges—because I know that being real is what connects people. Many of these young men are trying to figure out their path in life while facing obstacles that are often bigger than themselves. If I can be a source of inspiration and help even one person stay on the right track, I’ve done something meaningful.
I also volunteer through church-led outreach programs, which include food and clothing drives, community cleanups, and supporting families during the holidays. These acts may seem small on the surface, but they have a big impact on people’s lives. What touches me most is how grateful people are when someone takes the time to care. Serving in these ways has humbled me and reminded me that leadership starts with service.
As I prepare to transfer to Central Methodist University, I’m focused not only on my academic goals but also on continuing my mission of service. I plan to pursue a degree in a field that will allow me to work closely with youth and community programs. Whether it’s through education, coaching, or nonprofit leadership, I want to be in a position to guide, mentor, and advocate for the next generation. I also plan to use my platform as a college football player to reach people, showing that success and service can go hand in hand.
My long-term vision is to launch a nonprofit that offers mentorship, academic tutoring, and life-skills training to underserved youth. I want to create safe spaces where young people can grow mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. My education will equip me with the knowledge and resources to make this vision a reality.
This scholarship would not just help me financially—it would support a mission that’s bigger than me. It would allow me to continue walking in faith, growing in leadership, and giving back to the community that raised me. I’m not just seeking a degree; I’m building a foundation to serve others for life.
