I am a 21-year-old Indian immigrant from the United Arab Emirates. I have been in the U.S. since 2017 and plan to settle permanently and focus on my goal of becoming a Healthcare Defense Attorney. Spirituality, love, family, hard work, and financial freedom are what I value most. My immediate goal is to work and impact my community as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse. Currently, I am in my senior year working towards my bachelor's degree in nursing at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. I enjoy learning and staying on top of anything new in medicine, nursing, law, and U.S. politics. I sing old gospel songs and still love reading ridiculously cheesy romance novels. I'm quadrilingual: my fluency varies, but I know Arabic, Hindi, and Malayalam. My current learning goals are Spanish and coding. Thank you for being here!

My favorite scientist is Tiera Guinn. She is a 21-year-old woman in her senior year at MIT. She inspires me to keep pushing for my dream because of her life. She has not graduated yet, but she is already building rockets for NASA with technology at work to exceed many others in the field. She works as a Rocket Structural Design and Analysis Engineer for an aerospace corporation. Another reason why she is currently my inspiration and my favorite scientist is because of her age and her background. We are both 21 years old and from minority populations. I can only imagine the hurdles she had to cross to get where she is today. She is the hero young girls need today, not TikTok and Hollywood celebrities. I look forward to all her creations, and successes and I hope she inspires anyone reading this just as much she does me.
Pro-Life Advocates Scholarship
Considering my second-hand experiences with abortion and its effects on the woman and her environment (her life, spirituality, and relationships), I wholeheartedly believe in preserving and promoting the value and dignity of all, especially that of the unborn. No matter the circumstances preceding the pregnancy, and no matter the condition of the medically viable fetus. In this essay, I will discuss a project I undertook that had an emotionally profound impact on my life and its trajectory. As a high school student looking for a project detailing the world's issues, I came across a website consisting of personal accounts of efforts undertaken by adoptive families trying to connect their Chinese children with their biological families. It was then I learned the true impact China's 'One-child' policy had on its people. This policy was introduced to curb its ever-growing population that has surpassed 1.4 billion today. I can relay all the statistics and personal accounts I have learned even today as a college student. However, I wish to highlight the work of a collector and photographer based in China. He captured several photos of fetuses in heaps of trash during this controversial time and preserved them in jars to let the nation or the world ever forget this crime. When you see the jars for yourself, you'll see most of these unborn babies smiling, most probably in relief for escaping China. Women were tortured, kidnapped, and forced to abort and become sterile; A painful procedure that took away their ability to reproduce. Most families preferred boys over girls, so they inflicted unspeakable crimes on their firstborn girls. Several families sold their children to orphanages, so these orphanages had become profitable businesses that catered to developed countries, especially the U.S. The adoption process worked out well, but some unfortunate children were abandoned, abused, and even murdered in cold blood. As a nursing student during my third year at college, I happened to be at clinical in a pregnancy resource center near the school. I learned how they helped every woman with resources and psychological comfort and advice to save a life with zero judgment. I listened to their accounts of helping deal with patients who decided to follow through with the abortion and how most of their patients deal with the depression that affects their relationships and work. I have seen the positives and the supposed negatives of pro-life; It is discouraging for young women when they hear stories relating to the aftermath for women that have gone through an abortion—learning how their marriages, relationships with their parents, partners, and children. As a nurse, and as I have discussed in my previously showcased essays, I want to help advocate and serve under-served areas and minorities—especially women belonging to minority populations. I want to help them learn the weight of either decision, listen to the heartbeat, and see pictures of their ultrasound exam to help them reach a sound and ethical judgment. One would think abortion was just as heinous as a killing, but that is not the case. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 618,420 abortions have been made from 2017 to 2018. that is 618,420 lives lost. As a nurse, I sincerely hope to show and teach my community the ill effects an abortion inflicts.
Carlynn's Comic Scholarship
My introduction to Japanese animes was an anime titled 'Ouran High School Host Club,' and I have watched it several times. I was 12, and animes had started to be a subject to obsess over, much like BTS is today. It was around the time I realized that there is nothing more to our lives other than studying, working, and dying. Animes had started to cheer me up. I loved rooting for the main characters and the side characters sub-plots. I loved that 28-minute of losing myself in an anime; it was almost like reading a book. The main character is a commoner whose life changes because of her experiences at the host club, which is hosted by seven other boys belonging to Japan's elite. This character's experiences changed my perspective, I started to be happier, which made all the difference: my academics, relationships, etc.
Dr. Samuel Attoh Legacy Scholarship
A parable I grew up hearing the most from my parents is the story of Alexander the Great. Alexander III of Macedon was a strong warrior; he conquered many parts of the world during his time. He had everything he could ever want: Gold, silver, and the ladies, I imagine. Before his untimely death, he had three wishes, and those were as follows: his physicians must carry his coffin to the grave, his riches must be laid out as a path to his grave, and his hands must be laid out his casket. He wanted the world to know he came and left empty-handed regardless of the prosperous life he led. As we grow up, our values, morals, and priorities change. With time, however, we realize that happiness and the impact an individual leaves on their community matter most. This is what legacy or instead leaving a legacy behind means to me. My grandfather was a failed businessman turned preacher. He taught the word of God and helped people in his community in every way possible. Growing up, I had neighbors, friends of families, people from church relay episodes from their lives where my grandfather helped pray for them or be there for them. Without the scientific reasoning, judgment, and knowledge I have acquired as a nursing student, I am still continuing his work. As a leader in the student government, I have advocated for students at my two-year college while doing my pre-nursing studies in the sciences. I promoted the feeling community through anonymous penning of random acts of kindness by featuring said words on our college newsletters. With my initiative, I started a platform highlighting accomplishments, goals, and stories from students of diverse backgrounds. I have been able to bring national attention to the lack of financial resources and academic scholarships available for international transfer students in the U.S. through my position as a leader at Phi Theta Kappa - an International honor society for two-year colleges. As a nurse, I will continue on his path by advocating for minority populations on issues such as vaccination disparities, high rates of premature death, and a higher incidence of chronic diseases. As I am writing this, I realize that perhaps my love for philanthropy comes from my grandfather. He didn't mean to leave behind a legacy, but he did. I may have chosen nursing as a way to continue his legacy. I plan to continue the cycle by advocating for minority populations and offering my skills to under-served and rural areas. Besides my parents, I am attaching two of the most significant influences of my life - Amy O' Sullivan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

This might sound obvious, and it took me a while to realize that the crucial thing in life is our happiness. Happiness for me comes from doing many things such as singing old songs, reading romance novels, journaling, taking a walk outside, and dancing contemporary dance routines I find online. However, the most happiness I feel is from building allyship and offering my abilities as a student nurse. My name is Adhina Joseph Rose. I am an active member of the National Student Nurses Association at Henderson State University - School of Nursing in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. As nursing students, we provide vaccinations to our community yearly and wherever and whenever necessary. A remarkable event that impacted me occurred earlier this year. I had signed up to provide COVID-19 vaccination shots at a local church in town. We went through the procedures, consent, explanations quickly, but I had not realized just how much of an impact I, as a student, had on people. I always go the extra mile by explaining the CDC guidelines only to take their attention away from the needle; This is my way of meeting them exactly where they are. I would ask them questions to understand how much they knew about COVID-19 and educate them from there. I made several meaningful connections that day. Prayed for a lady's upcoming colon resection surgery, heard and understood their fear of the vaccination, and listened to how they coped during the pandemic. After that day, I was told that I would do particularly well as a community health nurse. This event made me realize what I wanted to do with my life. I have to worry about my finances, so my goal may not be community health nursing. Still, once I am on my own feet with no financial burden, I want to start my clinic. I would love to meet people where they are and travel to under-served areas to provide physicals and health advice for free. I will graduate with my Bachelor's degree in nursing in May of 2022, and I plan to work as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse here in Arkansas. I hope to finish paying off my loans, gather enough experience this way. I always knew that I was interested in philanthropy but had no clue where and how exactly I would do so. I dreamt of doing something that would make me content, and I have finally found it. The link I have attached below will take you directly to my page on Wattpad. As a 17-year-old, I wrote a collection of poems and motivational lift-me-up articles for myself and other people who might find solace in my writing. I made several friends from that period of my life. I am twenty now, and I still keep in touch with them and read my works occasionally.
